haha funny thing is the original plot for the manga written by togashi had yusuke stay as a ghost helping ppl with their problems. the editors at shounen jump wanted him to have it steer towards a battle shounen. a rare editor W.

I may be misremembering this but I believe both the Naruto and YYH Kuramas are in reference to a Kitsune or fox spirit from Japanese folklore. IIRC there is a tale of a kitsune that dwells upon Mount Kurama and that is the origin of the name.

In the manga, Kurama went into a little more detail about why he cares so much for his human mother. There was an incident, a few years prior, where he climbed up a stool to get something out of the cupboard, but he lost he balance and fell; knocking over and breaking a few glass plates, in the process. But his mother caught him, badly cutting her arms on the broken glass; leaving them horribly scarred. His guilt over that incident, as well the love she showed him in that moment played a huge part in his desire to protect her.

So there's actually a reason Kurama looks feminine. Togashi (the mangaka) initially wanted Kurama to be a girl. But his editors suggested he make Kurama male because the main cast being 3 men and 1 woman would have a weird dynamic. So he did but kept his original feminine design. Kurama is by far my favorite character. Keep watching! This is an amazing series!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I’ve heard, the idea that Kurama was originally intended to be a girl seems to be more of a rumor than fact. I haven’t come across any statements from Togashi confirming he was supposed to be a girl in any interviews I've read about Kurama.

This is the biggest tale he may be a she as not allowed to show women bare chested on anime specially back then. But same time I havent found anything either. I kind of assumed that "Kurama was supposed to be a girl" thing was false because the only info about Kurama's creation as concept was that he was based on the flower boy trope. plus, I knew that rumors like "___ was supposed to a girl" existed in a lot of shounen fandoms that contained feminine men, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure that, in the original, the Forlorn Hope took half of each of Kurama's and Yusuke's lives, so presumably they'd both be weak for a while but recover. But Yusuke's involvement was actually necessary to grant the wish at all. Kurama's wish was for his mother to be happy, and that couldn't have been fulfilled if Kurama had died. So there needed to be some way to heal her without killing Kurama.

That tone shift will be continue, this one being the most noticeable but each "assignment" does change the feeling which they did an A+ or even S tier until the last season. -no spoilers- just a expectation drop when you get there. Until than enjoy the right my 7 year old-self took, because it is one worth remembering.

god this is why the dub sucks. i dunno why ppl defend this shit. the translation of this episode is horrid. yusuke doesnt offers his life to save kurama's and the mirror is not "oh ima just be nice and not kill no one". yusuke offers half his life so kurama uses only half of his. thats why neither are dead at the end. kurama doesnt think himself superior to his mom, but instead ends up loving her as mother due to her love and care as she raised him. i swear how can ppl defend this shit and say the dub is better.
