The thong about shonon anime is they usually start off slow and gradually get better as it goes on. This is is one of those series that want you to get a fill for the characters before it starts getting serious. So it starts off as everyday stuff and then it takes a turn. That's how all shonon is for the most part. And as for karama, he is the original for sure. Kishimoto was a fun of YuYu, which is where he got the name from the nine tails from.

Fun facts: Kishimoto has stated that Hiei is the direct inspiration for Uchiha Sasuke. Kurama is Japanese fox demon/spirit. As they grow older and power they gain more tails topping at 9.

Fun fact: Kurama does not mean fox demon. You are probably thinking of Kitsune. The author, Togashi, says he just made the name up, but some think the name comes from Mount Kurama (while there is a demon of Kurama, it would be a tengu and not a fox). If you're wondering why Kurama is also the name of the fox in Naruto, it was actually a reference back to Yu Yu Hakusho just like you're saying Hiei inspired Sasuke.

@@burk314 He's right, Kitsune is just "Fox" in japanese, Kurama means "Nine Tailed Beast" not just a fox or Nine Tailed Fox, BUT the most famous one on folk tales are the Nine Tailed Fox.
