Captain Kuro wants to find Kaya but Usopp and Nami help her escape. Luffy and Zoro meet Koby under the wrong circumstances. Luffy manages to take down Captain Kuro!

The grandpa thing is the only significant reveal you get in the live action way before time (in the anime, this reveal happens many arcs after this, and not in the same way). Luckily, this doesn't really affect your enjoyment of the anime or any of the big reveals along the way!

"Katana" is Japanese for "one-bladed sword", but in English it refers specifically to a style of sword called an uchigatana. You can make a katana outside of Japan, it's a specific style of sword that just happened to originate there.

Y'alls Zoro bias is DEFINITELY showing saying "Usopps story was much better here, but Zoro was robbed." 🤣 Usopp didn't even get to DO anything in this version. No Veggies, no making sure the pirate invasion remains a lie, no constantly being beaten down while he does his best to stand up and protect his village, no victory against Jango. He shoots ONE shot at Kuro and then is just slapped to the side. MY boy was ROBBED. 😭

Great react ❤❤, Garp is Luffy's grandfather, it is revealed in episode 314, not just something from the live action, in the live action they will reveal things earlier, because they can't have 1000 episodes of One Piece

Fun Fact: this episode is the only time in the whole Live Action where Helmeppo's name is said. Which means that the only way to know his name beforehand without the manga/anime is to have the subtitles on. Also, I do think they should have kept the stair thing in, because a Lot of reactors get the idea that she's "just hiding" because Koushiro just says "she's gone." Also, I always pictured it as her having broken her neck from the fall down the stairs; humans can be remarkably fragile sometimes.

All changes in the live action from the anime/manga were approved by Oda, but apparently the Garp storyline took the most convincing, but the showrunners felt they needed an overarching threat to the season. In the manga Garp just shows up in the East Blue to arrest Axe-hand Morgan and decides to take Koby and Helmeppo with him to train.

Zoro didn't have a grappling hook. That was the original rope and hook used to raise the bucket of the well. Probably fell there when the well was still in use. 😊 The Zoro in the well stuff was a plot device to keep him out of the action untill later cause he's such a powerful character. And, as you said, his back story was cut really short. Lost all it's appeal. 😢

A small consolation, they did his matchup against the pair more justice here. I think it was widely accepted that zoro should NOT have struggled the way he did in the anime/manga, and here it was a much better showing.

I agree with you on the Zoro backstory, but I also kinda understand why it happened the way it did. Like, in the anime we just got it as an episode in between, which you couldn't really do here. All in all I personally liked the changes they did to the Syrup village arc, but it's still my least favorite in the Live Action. Which means, there'll be only greatness from here on 👀

I mean, the syrup village arc is the worst one in the East Blue whole anyways, so it’s not that bad if you look at it that way.

One of the biggest reveals in the series ruined like that. Garp appears in episode 315 or so and reveals a lot of things, this one being part of them. Live action fucked it up

So yeah you have a couple hundred episodes before you would have found that out in the anime but Garp is Luffy's grandfather. And all the people who hate Usopp love this version of Syrup Village. He's portrayed as the useless baggage they think he is. Not that I have any strong feelings about it or anything.
