That's the limit of sport and competition karate , You cannot perform precision and sharp attack when you getting older , I also try to defy the nature , but i fail and stop , went to traditional path.

Sensei, why not practice on the punching bags also? Of course partner work is important, but contact training gives marvelous feedback to one's striking technique.

I don't know why Karate gives up its lateral stance and does that fencing stance. With the fencing stance, you can only move forward and backward but not sideway. It becomes very monotonic. And if I can go to your blind side, it will be all over. That's the inherent problem of the fencing stance.
@bradlong79412 жыл бұрын
Very good observation. It is because Funakoshi Sensei's son studied Kendo prior to WW2. He adapted it and made Karate follow a similar path. He died during WW2. After the War, Nakayama Sensei went down the same path with the JKA. Sport and point scoring. Guess what? His father just happened to be a famous Kendo Master/Instructor. Much of this was gently resisted by Funakoshi Sensei but his Japanese students went a different direction than what he envisioned.

What you mean by lateral stance and fencing stance? Do you have Japanse terms? In normal Zenkutsu Dachi you sure can move to 360 degree, its just a matter of practise and using gravity.

Sincerity is not to be found in another country. But in your own heart. Every good student spends years training alone. If your hearts not truly into the Arts where you are, a geographical change will not help you. Yes, a good teacher is necessary. But even then 90% of your progress is a result of your own training. Don't fool yourself. Practice by yourself, as we all do. And when you are ready the teacher will appear. Good luck.
Ja está na hora do Tanaka produzir um filne de karate pe nós.

I took a few lessons in Marshal Arts (maybe 3 or 4 times) when I was in my 20's and in the very first bout, I could not help but kick my instructors behind in seconds and the 2nd instructor, it was in part that they made a grave error in their arrogant assessment and underestimating of me, a serious mistake to never make in fighting. I was a seriously (seasoned-in) experienced street fighter and faster than "greased-lightening" and I had that internal-power-force (Berserker) strength second to none! When I was in my 40's I gave lessons to my oldest Son when he was in the 1st grade of elementary school, because a bully was beating him up. I taught self defense and movements, how to strike a hard effective blow, but the very most important part was to teach and pass on to him, was the "Internal- Spirit" that makes a fighter/winner. Without this, it can all just be mental exercise and social status and build a little self confidence. I also had him read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Well my Son came home with a good win and was never bullied again as was expected.

The katas are crisp & strong but the slow parts are too long, no doubt this is the sport karate influence where putting on a show might impress the judges.
One good and experienced western boxer would defeat these karatekas one at a time with ease. I do not mean to be disrespectful, I have a 2nd dan in Shotokan, a 3rd dan in TKD and 1 yrs training in amateur western boxing and boxing is by far the best of the fighting arts!
@mariuslestaru8918 Жыл бұрын
It is easy to say this. Some boxers try this, with Asai Sensei. Find out by yourself what happend.
@capricola86829 ай бұрын
Then you probably should question your 2nd dan. I've seen a lot of 3rd dans and higher, yet their movements are still bad, below the japanese standard. Because shotokan is too broad with many different organizations. But when it comes to JKA, like the one you see in the video, I highly doubt this "western boxer" can defeat them with ease. Lyoto and Chinzo Machida are products of JKA, their father is a JKA instructor. They did well in the octagon and when they lost, those boxers didn't defeat them with ease as you claimed.
