Looking at how Russia has achieved operational success so far in the war, needing 6-8 months to achieve their objectives in any given area and sacrificing 50,000 troops to do so, it is highly likely that Russia will not be able to push Ukraine out of Kursk Oblast in 2024.

i prefer the Ukraine Control Map - it looks like a hand with its middle finger sticking up into Russia.. Maybe Syrskyi's next incursion somewhere else will look a dik and balls on the battle map..

the difference between Avdivka and Sudza, in terms of Ukraine's defence of it, is that Sudza is Russian ground... Russian homes, Russian apartment blocks, Russian schools and hospitals.. Will Russia destroy it to take it back for it's residents?

Yes. That’s exactly what Russia will do. Then they’ll blame it on Ukraine. The question is what the residents who evacuated will believe. They’ll probably believe the Russian lies.

Ukraine needs to flood Russia with videos about how great things are in the Ukrainian occupied territory in Kursk so they can see how it is before Russia destroys it.

State is a good translation for Oblast for those familiar with the US though Russian oblasts have half the population on average. For Europeans the rough equivalent is a NUTS Level 1 region.

'State' is pretty spot on. Russia is a federation, just like the US or germany for example.

I tell you at what point it all went wrong: the moment you chose to take 'the economist' serious when it comes to battlefield analysis. You could as well read the US navy news for news on the economy.

It's obvious that capturing at such a staggering cost a string of villages in the middle of nowhere that can't be held makes zero military sense. Doing that when a vital logistic hub of your army like Pokrovsk is about to fall is making Zelenskyy the top candidate for Darwin Award in this century. Zelenskyy Kursk misadventure already failed spectacularly, but due to his obsession with media hype he is simply incapable even to cut snowballing losses and as always he is just reinforcing the failure. It's the same nutty pattern as was with Bakhmut, Krinky or a publicly announced failed Zelenskyy offensive in 2023. Zelenskyy is the gift that keeps on giving to the Russians advised by even nuttier DC gifts.

Does Russian want to kick Ukrine out of Kursk in 2024? Seems to me Ukrinain forced being bugged down there give Russia advantage cross the front lines

Well they probobly want to, but they do the more tactical and try to bog down the Ukrainian troops, that is a decent strategy ... But i do think Ukraine alreddy seen that coming and will just outflank the troops trying to bog them down, at least for own So basically Russia will need more troops just to bog Ukraine down (that is more than they planed so far)

Did russia even want to take kiev in the first days of the war? Do they even use their best units? The way i see it it becomes less and less relevant what russia wants and more relevant what ukraine forces them to do.

Even today, the Pokrovsk direction s not enough for them to try and gaslight people these days.. the whole world has seen Russia for what it is, and so have Russia's own residents in Kursk...
