Kurt knew he was in a relationship he should not have been in but stayed anyway because she obviously made him feel safe with Kurt being homeless since he was 15. He did eventually get out of the relationship and didn't want to get involved with anyone because he wanted to concentrate on his music but Courtney was so persistent and than she seduced Kurt. That was his downfall. I truly believed he loved her before he knew what she was really like but after her found out he couldn't get away. Kurt tried but he didn't make it.

Even if Courtney didn't get Kurt killed she is to be responsible for much of his emotional issues. He always felt the need to defend her even though he wasn't confident himself. You can tell that there's some things that are off about this acceptance. Kurt's mother pushed her away when she tried to hug her, she didn't look at Krist or point at him when she started naming and pointing at the other guests on stage, Dave looked like he was really nervous and holding his breath, Kurt's mother's speech was entirely too brief given the opportunity she had to talk about her own son, his sisters didn't say anything, and Courtney is very clearly drunk or high. If Courtney is so innocent, why wouldn't everyone be more relaxed and be able to come together and share their thoughts on Kurt and the band? You may think that it's because of the controversy and while that is partially true, I think if everyone is acting nervous around her after all those years that says something about the whole thing.
