Quick tip: if your new house has that, I recommend putting beds and toys up there as enrichment. The reason for this is that cats love to sit in high places and watch what happens below them. So, you mind as well do that to make Kurt more happy.

My cat lives on top of my kitchen cabinets haha it is his favourite place to be. He literally sprawls out and lays across them like he’s suntanning. 😂 I recently learned there are 2 types of cats high dwellers and low dwellers! Sounds like you got yourself a high dweller! My cat does these too! The cabinets above the fridge are kept empty, exclusively as a super-high private space for him. I've also trained him to jump down into my arms when he is in high places (to the point where he's jumped on me before I'm ready and tore up my face, lol). Your cat Kurt seems really similar intellectually to my boy Sputnik, so it might benefit you to train him to come down into your arms/onto your shoulder, so you can rescue him safely.

Its good to make high spaces for your cat, it generally gives them a safe space where they can look over the domain and feel secure. Kurt is doing what is natural for him, I'd suggest making a cat highway in one of the rooms, a continuous flow from floor to wall back down. Its always a good idea to make your cat feel like he's king of the jungle

Cat's like to be up high, it makes them feel comfortable and safe. If you don't want him on the counters and shelves then install platforms on the walls specifically for him. They usually just end up looking like regular empty shelves. Though you should have some sort of carpet or something for him to have traction.

I missed my cat Oscar so much, your videos reminded me of him. I found him in the street and took him in. I took him to the vet gave him all shots that he needed and treated his ears. But one day, my job increased the working hours from 8 to 12 and extended the weekend to 4 days and I started to see the effects on him of being alone for 12 hours. Finally, I put him to adoption and I was really careful choosing the right family for him. He was adopted to a family of 4, the dad promised that he will treat him like his own and he seems happy from the videos he shared with me. I cried but it’s the best for him.

Honestly is terrifying how cats can use whatever to get to high spots. My parents have plants, but we can’t keep them on the ground bc one cat is somehow strong enough to launch himself onto the top of a cabinet (using a kids’ table as a launch pad) to attack some plants on top of it.
