Hey kurt I just discovered your channel and love it! Was wondering if you can show a video on how to pass half guard when your inside leg gets triangled. I keep getting swept in this situation. Thanks!
@josiahlee19826 жыл бұрын
bro...half guard is one of the easiest positions to pass. in our school we have a move that works 99.9999999999% of the time. when you get caught in half guard and are on top go shoulder to waist ear to hip, wrap both arms around both legs like a bear hug and gable grip, next extend both arms straight down towards your feet like doing a tricep extension on a cable machine and try to put your chest on the mat (flatten out). It works every time no matter leg hold ( lockdown, grape vine, etc).

Kurt you have the banana splits also, in 10th planet they call the other move a twister, or before you go to the power-half you have that twister which is actually a guillotine Wrestling :)

Sad stuff, that little rhyme about gays that he does at the end. I really enjoy Kurt, and I think he's a great ambassador for BJJ to have: he's smart, skilled, a patient teacher, seemingly conscientious about his jiu-jitsu and his teaching, and able to laugh at himself. But it stings to hear that stuff about gays. It isn't that he's committing some mortal sin or anything; all it'd take for most people to move past it and forgive (gays included, I'd wager) is an apology. It's more like that I feel pity that the world has moved away from shitting on other people for their sexual orientation and Kurt doesn't seem to have noticed. It reminds me of something, too: I was recently looking through Ralph's SF Yelp page, where Kurt teaches / trains (I have an SF trip next year, maybe I'll drop in). Most of the reviews are excellent, but one of the few bad ones gnaws at me after watching this video. Here it is: "within 30 seconds of meeting Kurt and simply asking him how his dojo works in terms of beginner vs advanced classes in BJJ, he says to me 'i dont do that faggot shit here'" Suspend for a second the fact that you really like Kurt Osiander; suspend, also, the fact that you're not a pussy and that you're a tough man and who cares about some words, etc. Now, try to convince yourself that this isn't how a bully talks. That this just some playful banter, that this is how someone with poise and wisdom and calm speaks to strangers in their gym or to thousands of people on the web. I'm closer to Kurt's generation than the other kid in the video, so I can't hold myself out as better than him in this regard. Historically, I mean. I grew up saying "faggot" all the time; it was just in the air then, and it was long before I knew the history of pain it's associated with. I deeply believe that words are just words, and that they can't do as much damage to us as we sometimes think they can. But I balance this belief with the fact that, look, we're trying to have a civilization here, and it behooves us all to be nice to each other. If it means reducing the frequency of "faggot" in your vocabulary, it's a small price to pay. I don't use that word anymore, and while a part of me was like "wtf why do I have to change", I frankly don't miss it. *** Not as important but equally a bummer is that this is the kind of shit that'll prevent a really good and telegenic teacher like Kurt Osiander from getting really big, be it on KZbin or elsewhere. See e.g. his cameo on Bourdain a couple years back: he's clearly got some star potential. But it's 2017, and you can easily envision a situation in which KO's popularity reaches enough of a height that people start trying to figure out what he's about, and - BAM - someone finds this video, or the Yelp review, or some other thing, and suddenly it's scandal-time, with extra anonymous hatred piled on. "Tony Bourdain's BJJ Coach a Raging Homophobe" etc. He wouldn't deserve that sort of treatment if it were to happen; it would really pain me to see. After all, he's half the reason I got into BJJ in the first place. I reiterate: he's an awesome dude, just a fascinating human being and someone I'd kill to have a lesson with. I watch every video - rewatch, even! But, fuck, it's 2017: the media landscape is nothing if not highly scandal-hungry and highly predictable. If Mr. Osiander ever reads this, I hope he does the right thing and looks in his heart.

5306251 I'd doubt it he's old school n clearly has a personality of not giving a fuck what others think of him he is a what you see is what you get kind of person in one of his videos some lady complained that he used the word fag n literally Ralph doesn't give a shit neither does Kurt ha just let it go man he's not changing for anyone or anything that's him n everyone who has trained with him n hanged out with him really understands how he really is n it's always positive energy but he just does funny shit just because he wants to n simply because he can and he'll continue to do so

@listek9815 жыл бұрын
First of all, do you know what jokes are? Also word "faggot" is used for other reasons than calling things "gay". If I call you a faggot it doesn't mean I think you're gay, it doesn't have anything to do with sexuality.

Show Me What You Got Oh boy ...another superficial child acting like a school girl. Is your goal in life to be pretty? Do you have a slick haircut, manicured beard, plucked eyebrows? I am so tired and disappointed for you that snark on a man's hairstyle. Men of character generally are too busy dedicating themselves to living life and sacrificing for a passion to worry about looking pretty. At the end of your days, we all look the same.
