While self cebtered to a 4th wall breaking degree, Kusko is not malichious or evil by nature, but by perspective. He never saw anything from other's position, cause he didnt have to, nor was raised to. Once his perspective is challanged enough time though, kusko adapts. He goes and sais sorry. He considers the concequences of his actions. he finds joy in more simple pleasures. And most of all, he sacrifices his future to save someone's life. A malichious or evil person would never do any of those. Maybe if it would further their goals.... But otherwise, no.

Sometimes making the protagonist a selfish person is risky, I mean look at Velma but I think one of the main reasons Kuzko gets positive reviews is because despite his flaws he is fun to watch and his immaturity is played for laughs, the Velma on the other hand...
@alexman378 Жыл бұрын
Wooooah, you’re comparing two very different things. For one, you’re comparing good writing vs bad writing. For two, Kuzko is an arrogant, selfish prick but he’s a fun arrogant and selfish prick. He’s also put through the ringer to become better. Velma never does, because those delusional morons behind the show thought she was genuinely great and didn’t need to change. Much like Tony Stark, having a dick of a main character can work if A) They’re written and performed well by someone who’s charismatic as hell B) They undergo tribulations that make them realize what they’ve been doing the whole time and making changes
@iDeathMaximuMII Жыл бұрын

It's a combination of -The story recognizes his flaws -The story uses his shittiness mostly for comedy about how people in power can be -Kuzko gets put through the wringer for his selfishness (the entire plot of the movie happens because he fired Yzma for no reason) -He grows as a person -The Emperor's New Groove is written by funny people while Velma is corporate garbage.

That's how they usually treat male characters vs. female characters. Male MC is the shittiest person on Earth but he gets humbled by a series of changing events that would completely redeem him without erasing all the bad things he had done. It's Entry of the Gladiators. It's over a century old. Oh, and it was originally intended as a military march.

He started out more as a villain and had a redemption arc to me. A movie can have 2 villains.

I love how, if it wasn't for the fact that this was his movie about him changing, Kuzco probably would have been the main antagonist.

I'm gonna be honest, kuszco getting mad at the old guy throwing him off his grove is my equivalent to what goes on my head when someone interaupts me from listening to music in my room

Wonder how it would have turned out if we got Kingdom of the Sun instead though. I mean looking at Yzma's recreated villain song alone it would have been great.

I wish that I could forget the film so I see it for the first again, best experience that was. He literally dances very well. This film is gold. The script, the editing, the humour, him breaking the fourth wall, the moments were the characters questioned things because they were being animated,,, everything is (chef kiss)
