Foundation fridayyyyyy! Pinning a comment on the packaging since seems to be a hot topic. Yay for recyclable packaging! I totally didn’t make the connection that not having a mirror is because of that, so that totally makes sense. While I have never tried to manufacture a recyclable makeup product or know what the options are, as a consumer and this being priced at $38, it feels VERY lightweight and with the clear plastic looks quite cheap, so that’s just what I was trying to point out. I’m guessing it’s light because they used less plastic which is obviously a conscious decision, and better for the environment. They likely could’ve done small things to make the packaging more appealing, like tied in the apple branding by engraving it into the plastic instead of just arbitrary swirly designs....but I’m someone who really values packaging as part of the whole experience and some people could probably care less 😂 Very cool that their packaging is recyclable and I’m sure we will see more brands head in that direction too, and with that more manufacturers have options for better recyclable packaging.

Apparently there’s an ingredient in it that can clog pores easily for those with oily/acne prone skin. So I can see how it would work out better for dry skinned folks

@@sarahsherrod2012 I use the krave beauty hydrating matcha cleanser and innbeauty project slushy moisturizer and no bs daily moisturizer. It has been the only moisturizers that don't irritate my skin (to give you a better idea, cera ve burns my skin it's so sensitive) I am trying their toner too as soon as it arrives to help with the flakes but I can't really give an opinion on that yet

Interesting! I've seen a lot of unsponsored reviews that have been positive! It seems like the people that have been enjoying it the most have been applying it in small amounts or thin layers, but I haven't been seeing a lot of negative reviews at all although I am sure they are out there!

I had a mixed review, I have Dry, mature skin. But I used light powder and set with finishing spray because that is what I have to do with pretty much all my foundations to make them long wearing and not settle in my fine lines. It's a finicky foundation for sure😉

Fenty tinted moisturizer please!!!!! I want to know if it stays on the skin because I am tired of Glossier tinted moisturizer disappearing on my face.

It really doesn't seem like a tinted moisturizer. I picked it up this morning, been wearing it about 6 hours. It's definitely got light-medium coverage and it's pretty mattifying. Honestly, the consistency reminds me of the Patrick Star primer that just came out, but with pigment added. The product contains talc high up in the ingredients list, which gives it a thickness and it dries down to a traditional matte-ish foundation kind of look. It's pretty blurring though, it almost performs like a hybrid of a foundation and a blurring primer mixed together. Definitely not like any tinted moisturizer I have ever used. So if you are expecting a coverage or finish similar to Glossier, I think you would find the new Fenty foundation not even slightly similar. But if you want something sorta light coverage, matte-ish and blurring, and lasts a bit longer, you might dig it!

But if you're expecting barely there coverage with a dewy finish like the Glossier Skin Tint, I think you'd be disappointed. That being said, I wanted to update you that the Fenty product held up on my normal slightly oily skin for a good 9 hours, and looked pretty darn fabulous! The blurring effect really lasts, my skin still looked airbrushed without too much coverage at the end of the night. I'm definitely not upset that I picked it up, but it's not quite the same as a traditional tinted moisturizer is all I wanted to point out. I hope you like it too! 😊

The people I’ve seen who really like this foundation seem to like it best applied more sheer, like lightly painted on with a flat foundation brush in areas where they want a bit of coverage for a more natural/fresh face. Maybe try applying it that way and see if it works better?

I saw too much mouth review this foundation and she has oily skin and it looked flawless. I’m thinking that although they say it’s for more dry skin, it seems to work better on oily skin. That’s to bad bc I love the idea of a “balm” foundation. But my skin is dry af. Especially with all the acids and retinoids I use.

@@dejat.4407 exactly. Adding a mirror would not make it expensive, it's a low cost item, so eliminating it would not make the end product that much cheaper. The cost is in the recyclable plastic. Also, you can get a mirror compact at the dollar store that was made in China. The cost to buy that in bulk would be less than 25 cents per compact (just guesstimating). That's why eliminating the mirror makes absolutely no sense to assume it would cost less. There are other costs involved in the process, not just what is obvious to see.

Wow, so crazy because literally every beauty guru I’ve watched has a completely different opinion about this foundation. Some say it’s dry, some say it’s semi-hydrating. Some say it creases, some say it doesn’t crease like other foundations. And they all had fairly dry skin. It’s wild how much variation there is on each person!

FYI, bought it because there are so many mixed reviews , unfortunately, I only saw good ones… Legitimately the worst foundation I’ve ever used… I look horrible by the end of the day … And I had to moisturize and prime so much to even make it look good in the morning… I just keep trying cause it was $42 lol

I think I’ll pass on this foundation. Doesn’t sound comfortable to wear, creases all over the place and you’re young. It would be a disaster on my skin. I get the packaging, but it could have been a bit better and still fully recyclable. Your apartment is great for foundation check ins with all that light. The packaging makes sense if the focus is on recyclability. Mirrors are non recyclable and clear plastic is the most widely accepted. From a sustainability standpoint this is probably the best they could do with it being plastic.

I know everyone is hyped for the recyclable packaging but here’s the reality, small plastic items usually aren’t economically viable to recycle so even if they initially wind up at the plant they ultimately wind up in a landfill (in the US). If they wanted to actually be eco-friendly, KVD should do refillable compacts where all you rebuy is the pan.

I think if it was more "drugstore" priced, people would have less objections? Paying $38 for something that looks like it came from the Dollar Tree may be what's rubbing them the wrong way. I only use drugstore makeup, and if I was going to pay x2 or x3 the price, I would be expecting a lot more from the product, including its packaging.

Packaging is important for more than aesthetic reasons. Good packaging makes it accessible for people with hand dexterity issues and easy to identify for folks with eye sight problems; it also makes it sturdy and takes into consideration movement and carrying it inside a bag. Cheap plastic can open easily inside a carry on bag, which can lead to contamination. And, even with the "aesthetic" of it, it creates an overall easy to identify design that goes with the brand, such as Fenty, Rare Beauty or even Physicians Formula. And better branding is something KVD desperately needs in order to separate their brand from Kat Von D

I’m honestly confused and maybe it had to be that you went super light with the coverage but every other review I have seen (and I don’t watch tik tok at all) but everyone else looks like they smeared grease on under the foundation. Like they are shiny! I’m puzzled. I have dry skin but I can’t not set my foundation. I can try to go easy on it but if my face feels wet it drives me nuts. Its recyclable not recycled. Would be awesome if it was made out of recycled plastic but very few companies are willing to do so because of the cost. However at this price point I feel making it out of recycled plastic would have been possible. With some effort you can break down most packing to be recycled in some way (ie scrape out remnants of makeup, remove mirrors, etc). Definitely not a bad direction to go but could have been much better if they are truly going the eco friendly route. To me it honestly seems like a marketing ploy to cut costs with minimal complaint, just my opinion though. 🤷‍♀️

Curious on description of your skin b4u apply moisturizer, the moisturizer you use, and the result you get from your moisturizer? Love that you put these foundations through a true test without primer, would still be interested to see a comparison vid of no primer vs a primer that always works perfectly on your skin. From you sharing your dryer skin type (w/ a few dryer areas) it may be nearly impossible for those with nearing your identical skin type to have creaseless and non-patchy focused areas, and like you feeling dry around application… At same time i’ve heard ‘very’ oily skin has also had an issue of sliding off the face, but again, the oil type, products, and weather also come into play. With a product like this it’s evident that’s it’s necessary to know all the fine details about the skin it’s being put on 🤪… Thank goodness after the viral TikTok craze, a range of people w/ different skin tones, conditions, textures have stepped up, or more of us would be waisting $, so thank you for doing your part, sounds silly but for real though… As for me, think I’m gonna try 😬, skin has zero creases or wrinkles, w/ minimal pores on cheeks, medium skin not oily or dry, so think i’ll moisturize w/Neutrogena Hrydro Boost water gel and prime w/ Tarte smoothing primer to keep moisturized & thinly covered, but can’t get the if you’re over 16 outta my head gonna grin and bear it, hope I’m not waisting my $ too…

Usually I use Nars Soft Matte Concealer as a foundation (I apply it lightly where I need coverage). I thought I can do the same with this foundation - like with a small loose brush. Hopefully Sephora in my country will stock it. Also I'm interested how this compares to Kevyn Aucoin foundation balm.

I have mature combination skin and this foundation is working fantastic for me. I didn’t think it would since I normally dislike balm products. I use a sponge to apply it lightly and set it with powder and it looks and wears great. It works great over my sunscreen (not all foundations do) and I use a little bit of YSL primer where my pores are noticeable.
