I used to work with Section-8 tenants in Sacramento placing tenants into houses. I had to quit because it was too frustrating. Too many people who don't need it get it and the people who need it don't. It was so stupid. Almost every tenant I worked with had a bf who was riding on their girl's voucher while selling drugs or doing something under the table. Some even had brand new Escalades! Just because they know how to file papers doesn't mean they deserve it. The people who really need it aren't good at filling papers and following up. That's why they don't get it.

@@MyLoveIsEmi economists have studied the problem of societies where 1% of a population always seem to come out on top and the basic problem is that no matter which societal model you use there always is an outcome where some people have more and some less even in games of chance. Take monopoly for example play enough rounds some small part of the group comes out ahead. In other words this is the expected outcome and there is no other societal model that derives different outcome e.g. socialism or communism even that produced elite 1% that ran the shit show. Look at North Korea their upper crust enjoys wealth beyond measure. No matter how you stack it the fairest model is still capitalism where chance,luck, greed, intelligence,hard work and brains still all have a factor in outcomes. This is actually true. Most homeless are good at hiding - they work, but rents are so high in safe areas. A coworker of mine lived in campgrounds and worked on campus at university, another slept on the property where she groomed horses and worked as a cashier at Whole Foods.

I was homeless for three years. There is so much more to the story than this. I met many people, mostly women some men, like myself with college degrees (Master's PhD's) which were blacklisted or targeted and out on the streets from a string of bad events (health issues, down sizing, foreclosure). None of them were doing drugs or drinking. There are also a lot of Veterans who are not mentally ill or addicts that are homeless. Why? I asked why... why is one Veteran driving a $90,000 truck and have a huge home and another Veteran is homeless on the streets? (Which is disgraceful these men and women served our country). When I asked some of the veterans on the street they would tell me it's because they spoke out against the government or military. I personally do not believe most homeless people start out mentally ill, however, when you are placed in this environment of survival it doesn't take long to become paranoid (and rightfully so). I had a rare vantage point and I saw two extremes from those whom were not homeless; extreme kindness and such extreme hatred and cruelty that I could barely believe this is my country. Look deeply and you can glean the truth. I am not saying all, but look at the shelters. Most are non profits that receive not only government funding but monetary community donations. Look at the cars the people that run these shelters are driving. Cadillac Escalades, BMW's. Why? There are many criminal aspects in the big picture. The very people that "supposedly" are there to improve the lives of the homeless prey on them. Big Pharma, State Medicaid, Hospitals and our society all fan the fire. Greed and power (many shelters have ex military or ex cops working or volunteering). I have never seen such a misuse of human power. Why don't you expand this segment on the homeless and cover these issues? One more thought to those of you out there like Mick in this video, it only takes one disease and a couple of tragic events and this could be you. I think Elenor Roosevelt summed up the world's problem of inhumanity best: "When will our consciences grow so tender that we will act to prevent human misery rather than avenge it?"

Thankfully this has all changed now! The state I live in is BEGGING people to fill needed jobs. My son was homeless and now he is a maintenance man at a large company! Benefits, 401-K, everything. The real problem is that many people don't want to work. They lose their job and don't realize there are millions of other jobs out there. Many CHOOSE to be homeless.

I came very close to homelessness and it was frightening. I had always paid my own way, but as I got older and illness took over, I was almost ready to just lay down and die. As large as my family is, no body was willing to take me in for a while. Through God's good grace, I made it through. There are no bathrooms for homeless people. Not one business is willing to let homeless into their business, just to get warm. Places like McDonalds or 7-11 charge for a cup, not counting the water. There is no place to even cook. Most parks are closed at night. Then they start making laws that you can't sleep in your car. They just block any way possible for the homeless to survive. We have to start making things possible for people to live. Give these people what every one else takes for granted, like bathrooms. Access to services, at the places they are at, not offices that are too far away to walk etc.

The government could easily create tent towns just outside of the big cities and provide free food, water, energy and so on. Food could even get donated from big food stores to reduce maintenance costs. If its done right and with a little bit of promotion 95% of homeless would go there. There should be a free bed in a tent for everybody that needs one. Those towns could be driven by up to 100% volunteers. No homeless in the streets, less crime, less police officers needed. Thats a win win situation for everybody. This is such a nobrainer, and its a realy cheap solution, but seems like the government just does not want to help.

I have a nephew out there living that life. He is mentally ill and is an addict. There's literally nothing you can do as a family to rescue a loved one in that situation. He refuses treatment because he's not in his right mind. Unless he becomes an imminent threat to himself or others, no one can force him into treatment. If you give him money, it goes straight to drugs. Because he's psychotic at times, it's not safe to let him stay with anyone. He hit my sister (his mother) once and that was the end of him staying there, even for a night. We've gotten him into shelters and programs but his mental health issues always get him kicked out. He's bipolar with psychosis and he's just a lot to deal with. He was committed to San Francisco General Hospital's Psych department for nine months and it was the best we had seen him in decades. They medicated his mental illness and got him off drugs. He was almost like his old self - he was lucid and had his old personality back. But when he was discharged, he eventually stopped taking his meds and went into a downard spiral. So my sister occasionally gets him a room so he can spend a night out of the cold and she'll feed him if he's hungry (or I will). But that's all we can do. It's heartbreaking and infuriating.

Closing the large mental hospitals was one of the worst things California did. So many of these people, ill through zero fault of their own, end up living in unsurvivable conditions while being branded as somehow "evil". No, what's evil is a country that's so greedy and self centered all it wants to do is make the "ugly" of homelessness go "elsewhere" so "they don't have to see it". It's not money that is the root of all evil. I finally looked it up in the Bible. Know what it says? "The LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil." Not all evil, but all kinds. Im on the edge of being without a home. I have no vehicle. Im paying 800plus in rent plus internet and cell phone but being homeless is around the corner. Anyone who thinks its just lazy uneducated or other vices people may have is in for a rude awakening. Tough times are creeping up on us and only the cheats will able to maintain a home. Trust me I've been fighting poverty since 2008. It can happen to you, so stay humble.

"only the cheats will able to maintain a home." You're full of $ hit! We worked 45 years, paid our taxes, took care of our family, did the right thing. My house is paid off. Tell me how I cheated to get what I worked my ass off for. You are going to be homeless because you lived beyond your means. You didn't put away for the hard times, we did. Ever heard the grasshopper and ant story? It would do you well to read it and anyone else facing homelessness. Piss poor planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on anyone's part. You're afforded the same opportunities we had 50+ years ago. It's called get up off your ass and do something. The younger generation hasn't learned that concept yet, but they will. Living mortgage free! 😛

it is so hard for someone who is on the ground to stand up again. I know that ...cause I was addiceted to drugs and got help from the german drug programm and now Iam working every day, got better and better payment and now can spend something to the "not so lucky" every month. It feels so good to help the poor. Even our old guy delievering the newspapers every Friday, giving him a 10 or 20 € amzanon gift card makes him so happy. We all should help the poor...at least a bit :)

I was homeless in my younger years. I straightened up and pulled myself out. Just got tired of my situation. For the most part, most homeless want NO help. They’re happy being high and left alone. Most are mentally ill or have mental issues they try to escape via drug abuse. The minority are working poor. You cannot FORCE people out of this, they have to WANT to improve their situation.

Most of these people have mental health issues. My own story is I had my own place but developed mental health issues - severe depression, insomnia, anxiety & phobias. In the end I did not take care of my apartment - never threw trash out so it became a real mess inside. Luckily my mom ask me to move back in with her. If it wasn't for her I would have been on the streets. I'm grateful. I'm getting better with meds but still have issues with my mental health. Maybe I'll always have issues I dunno. It's tough & I feel for these people on this video. It can be almost impossible for most ordinary folk to understand when you're brain isn't right.

Many of them do a variety of services. The problem is that it's become out of hand. Many of them came from out of state due to the good weather and tolerance of homeless people as well as petty crimes thanks in large part due to California Proposition 47 where someone can steal just below $950 and get a ticket and one day in jail.

@slam jammer: there are many other consequences to helping homeless such as laws that impede the individual rights or private property rights. i would have been considered as homeless way back before anybody was called homeless and always felt that the earth was my home but the authorities often disagreed. these days too much of so-called help to the homeless is political gain for the government and it's so-called 'workers' and nothing really goes to the homeless. just another fraud part of the election corruption and a two party military/industrial complex.
@MajBunl5 жыл бұрын
@Destiny tran the only reason they can only raise taxes that much a year is because of Prop 13 from many years ago when taxes were being raised outrageously all the time- since then the politicians keep trying to get rid of it, and are trying again now, so pay attention when it comes time to vote & tell all the people you know also. That law protects every homeowner.

But there is always endless amounts of money for war and none for the poor. They want to protect me and then they neglect me. They never pay the slaves enough so they can get free, just enough to stay alive so they can come back to work.
@MajBunl5 жыл бұрын
they do allot a very large amount of money to provide free education up through high school, and in most states, pretty cheap junior college so you can learn enough to be able to learn more and get a better paying job. True, I am not all that impressed with a lot of the schools and teachers, but then you still can learn on your own- I taught myself most of what I used for my jobs and paid for all my own education with no loans.

Then he won't be homeless..timeline 3:26. Some people I agree it is not their fault and they want to work. But the druggies did this to themselves so I have no feelings for them. They are the ones that steal from others in order to support their drugs they need. And they are also lazy and don't even try to keep their place clean.
