Thank you for doing this Kevin. It made Qos a lot more approachable.

Hi Kevin, I liked the RTP explanation in reference to VoIP, queuing, TCP and windowing. Thanks

I feel you, a lot of topics in CCNA I am very comfortable with but there are several that seem so overwhelming that are harder to emulate using PT although PT has come a long way in terms of simulating some great features. I find QOS is a topic I have made a lot of ground on since first starting but again I often feel I need more and have yet to reach the comfortable level I have with other topics. It is a daily thing and I will just keep plugging forward.

Hi Kevin, great work and simplified delivery too. I particularly love the real life analogies used to explain various concepts.

Shaping = Less assertive, puts a delay on packets that may go over the Bandwidth limit. Policing = More assertive, drops packets that exceed Bandwidth limitations.

I took out of the video how QoS can be broken down so that everyone can have a piece of the pie. Today in my environment we have one wire that feeds our computer and sip phone, but like you said it knows or it has been programmed on the switch via VLAN to distinguish which one has the priority.

Thanks so much Kevin, Great voice out there, Well my take was about the QoS Mechanisms most especially Queuing, Congestion Avoidance. Thanks once again.

15:33 how is 'Shaping' different from the 'Queuing' mechanism? I do not understand that, to me it sounds like the explanations would be interchangable between the point 'Queuing' and 'Shaping'. I would really appriciate an explanation, if anybody understood the concept :) best regards & thank you in advance

Queuing allocates different amounts of queue space for different traffic classes, while policing and shaping are both ”traffic conditioners” that can rate limit traffic. Said another way, queuing usually guarantees a minimum amount of bandwidth available for a class of traffic while policing and shaping set a maximum amount of bandwidth for a class of traffic. I hope that helps and wish you the best in your studies!

My take away from this course The best definition of Qos is managed unfairness 3 categories of Qos are - Not restricted - Best Effort - Less restricted - DiffServ - Strict - IntServ Common Quality of Service Mechanism - Classification and Marking: recognize that the type of traffic early and making a marking so that the next router or switch very efficiently look at that marking and making a decision whether dropping or forwarding based on that marking. - Queuing: it is known as congesting management, giving a priority treatment for type of packets (for example VOIP) - Congestion avoidance: is preventing a queue from filling a capacity - Policing and Shaping: is called a traffic conditioner which prevents traffic from sending too rapidly. - Link efficiency: some of the mechanisms are compression, link fragmentation and interleaving ... it is a big deal when we trying to make the most effiecient use of our link speed on speed less than 2mb per second, or in some cases 768kbs Thank you for the course.

Is QoS usually configured on the router or switch? Or both

Hi Kevin, it was a great video. Short one but it clearly explained the basics of QoS with analogical examples. Great work. I tried to access the other videos on Spanning Tree, but unable access in your website. What could be the reason? They are showing locked.
