Thank you. I have to go to the dump station b4 it closes also I'm out of water. My step won't work. I just clicked on 5 videos of creeps jerking around with introductions. YOU GOT RIGHT TO IT. I stopped after you talked about lubing then removing the pin. I don't have lube so I went right to removing the pin. I wasn't sure what was what; (I'm new to doing my own repairs.) I thought for a moment: it is moving in and out a little; maybe it just needs a push. That helped a little but not much. I did it again but this time I closed the door then pushed it. IT WORKED!!!. I had to open the door to get in, which opened it a little. I saw somebody walking by and asked him to push my step when I closed my door, he was cool and it worked. Then I turned it off. I'm writing this from the dump station. Then I'll get water; then I'll get lube and grease it up. Back in the race.

Without question, the best info provided on KZbin regarding the Kwikee RV Electric Step. Seeing the dislike made me spend some time (9 min.) reviewing other videos on the subject before commenting. There were several but I chose the top two in regards to views (71K professional RV repair shop & 13K amateur guy with an RV). I can easily say, scale of 1-10, they were a 2-3 with yours being a 9 (always leave room for improvement). I think the most important point was the time you took to point out the Safety Concerns with an explanation that most idiots could comprehend. Thanks Will.

Thank you so much!!! I wasn't sure it would work as mine was stuck out and wasn't moving at all, and when I would shut the door it would just make a small click and the step light would come on. I'm glad I knew to be cautious. I followed the instructions and it worked. I'm so happy 😊

Great information off to do mine. Of course step failed just when we plan on leaving on our first 5 day trip. We just purchased a 1990 Triple e, A class, good condition, good support from Canadian Manufacturer in Wrinkle, Manitoba, Canada. Newbie to Motor Homes, not mechanics! Just retired so what do you do after raising 10 children. Down size from 3600 sq ft to 1200 sq ft home, take your boat and toys with you to retirement home. Coved-19 is in the background, you buy a Motor Home and get the hell out of Dodge and play Wiley Nelson's "On the Road Again" every time you take to the road, add some mariachi music and all set. Memories of project in Texas back in 2000. Music is good for the sole! Cheers & Thanks for the information, good presentation, easy to follow! Cheers from "The Great White North"!

Mine stopped working just as I was closing the door for the last time to start our trip. I disconnected and bungie corded the steps up and out of the way. Now that I am back I will look at it and try Will's method. My MH is 18 years old, so might be time for a new assembly.

thanks so much for the magic fix! when i pulled the motor i could see that the gearbox looked okay, so i did your reset trick and Presto! btw the pin is much easier to remove if you take the load fm the motor at full extension off of it, i was able to retract the step part way and remove power, the pin fell right out!

Having to fix, re-engineer, or take steps (beyond normal maintenance) to make products work as intended gives true meaning to my life. [COUGH] Had a Sony car AM/FM/Cassette player fail within 12 months. Upon inspection I found a failed reduction gear made of plastic; all other gears were metal. Enjoyed your videos proactive approach to poor design.

Hello, Listened intently and the job just looks so easy! My step jams at the down cycle. Only way to free it up is to take the motor off. Found that the motor works good and then I can free up the gear. My question would be to you is "is the motor supposed to be controlled by the control unit and reverse the direction of the motor to bring the step back up?" I've reposition the linkage assembly but still jams. Every time I plug the current back in it extends the step out then jams!

Thank you Will, your video's they are such a great help to me. My steps would not retract all the way. Watched your video and was able to fix them. I did find it was easier to remove the pin that holds the arm in place after removing the motor. I really regret buying a Thor RUV!

Thanks for your Video! Tested my motor and it works, but it is not getting any power from the control module. I went to order a new module (hope it is what I need), and the number on my module PN909506000 is obsolete. I found PN 379606 is a replacement so I ordered one ($200). I twisted off 3 screws removing the module and grounds. Hope the new module works. I'd rather have a manual step than all this trouble!

Great video. I don’t have that problem, my motor died and the steps were free to flop by hand fully open or closed. I bought a replacement motor from Az but it failed after a couple open and closes. They replaced it and it failed the same way. Is this common with these motors from Az? I see the have an AM motor which costs 3 times as much, but may be worth it?

Very informative video. My steps are stuck in the up position. The first time it did this it started working again in a few days on its own. Now it's done it for the second time and when put a magnet on the door sensor I hear a clicking noise. I'm assuming the motor is bad? The weird thing is the RV is less than 3 years old. Thoughts.

I’ve watched several of these Kwikkee step fix-it videos - yours is the best. BUT, I had to change out my motor a few months ago and for a couple of weeks it worked great, then, and now, after it retracted the steps, it made a horrible “gear-stripping” sound, kinda like a machine gun and it lasts for 3-4 seconds. The steps still work but I know gears are being chewed up. It’s as though the motor stops briefly, but then tries to keep on running after the steps are in. Is there some micro-switch somewhere that’s failing? I remember hearing the same sound when the first motor burned out. This new motor is still working, but THAT SOUND IS NOT GOOD. Help? Anyone?

Hi Will. My steps stick in the up or stowed position. Pull the motor off, put it back on and they will work for a while. It eems to have a lot of pressure against the motor when removing it. Is it traveling too far and jamming

Only half gear used in gearbox, spin gear 180 deg. These gears are normally metal. Step motor, Kwikee steps use a window motor ACI A83094 (Amazon $31.94) or Advance Auto parts, newer ones use the same size but more plastic. Better to get the older one.

My Kwikee step stoped retracting outward randomly on day two of our trip. I bought a step stool to make due. The step randomly started working at some point, unsure when because the stool was there and blocked it from moving, so when I went to pack up and move the stool, it was stuck by the weight of the step. By the next day it was dead again. I’m hoping your steps will help. I am afraid there is some type of short.

lol - it's just an automatic part of being a KZbin Creator. Sometimes I get a dislike in the first minute before I know a person could even have watched any of a new video. Dislikes though are view times and I just say THANK YOU for adding to my view times :)

It's 2 dislikes now, lol. Some people automatically dislike before even watching.. I think it's a jealousy thing. If I notice someone that's good at what they do or if I see potential then I support them 100% regardless of my own personal failures. Voice your thoughts and forget what anyone else thinks, that's what most of your viewers like about you.

I Have a 1997 Fleetwood Southwind Motorhome. The Kwikee steps motor does not have a plug just bare wires. If I order a new motor will it come with a plug insert? Also when attempting to take off gear the nuts came off only part way. Evidentally the bolt turns free not allowing me to take off the nut,

After I removed the pin and key from the steps to push them in manually a tied up. I discovered that it was a loose wire. When I tried to replace the pin and key I can’t get them to realign them. What is the fix.
@garyjones2895
@garyjones2895 4 жыл бұрын
I discovered how to do this. With the power up the arm it always made a complete cycle. That always stopped in the same place preventing me from replacing the pin thru the step bracket and the arm. So if you have the power disconnect and just take the power plug and just touch them together the arm will stop when you pull them a part. If you just bump them together the arm will stop. Try to install the pin. Mine arm was out to far. So I just had to tap the power twice to get it close enough to insert pin.
