What about Weiser Smartkey that uses the original key before you rekey?

It’s the exact same thing as the Kwikset SmartKey

I think you are referring to the Schlage Secure+ lock... those had their own lot of major issues, so they stopped making them, and have recalled them all. If you own one, you can get a warranty replacement of a regular Schlage lock sent to you for free by email them about it with pictures... But if you are talking about smartkey, then as silver eagle said above, doesn't matter if it is weiser or kwikset... same lock

FYI, it is possible to make a similar tool to the smartkey decoder on your own with a cheap boroscope and a profile key for under $10... i agree, smartlocks are not secure at all, and they don't usually last very long either. On another note, I love MT5+ for picking/collecting, but in terms of actual use, they tend to fail rather quickly, especially in weathered conditions. I do not recommend Mul-T-Lock for actual use, over other high security locks such as Assa, or Abloy, as it will not last nearly as long, and it easier to pick then then other one's i mentioned (although it's extremely unlikely someone would ever even attempt to pick any of these in the field).

All I can say it’s…. Good luck 👍🏻 for anyone to try to pick the MT5+ locks. About the Kwikset Smartkey is a disaster
@IsaacHashman3 жыл бұрын
@@S.E.Locksmith haha ya, I'm not saying that it's likely anyone would pick it :p, just mentioning that in terms of pick resistance, it is lower then Abloy or Assa by a decent amount. By I agree with your point that people are still unlikely to pick it. My main point is that MT5+ doesn't last long, due to the little nubs on sliders breaking off, and the wide open keyway that allows the lock to easily be filled with debris, dirt, moisture, etc. They are just not very reliable locks, and a huge pain in the ass when they get stuck in a locked state.

Only a locksmith can get that tool. Their benefits outweigh the negatives.

No, you can go buy the tool with no issues. It's $350, but they're not going to verify that you have a locksmith license to buy it. Although you need tools to cut a key to the code, or you might be able to get a lock shop to cut it to code. In any case, I think it's still pretty secure compared to the normal Kwikset, which can be picked in a heartbeat.

@@peteschneider5842 I bought it a year ago and they verified my business as a real company. Can't remember the details of what they did. Checking other companies I buy from. Should be more controls though. I only found 1 company that was not out of stock at the time. Thieves break doors and windows. They don't spend $350 on tools and then buy also a code machine to cut it. A shop would be Leary of anyone coming in with a kwikset code and more than once. In 16 yrs I have never had anyone ask me to cut a Kwikset by code. When I first started as a Locksmith, I was background checked at HLFlake and the key code services. No licensing in our state. Other than picks, these tools are not that easy to get. This machine also goes on the internet with your phone and that is a paper trail also bringing up your location as you use it.

I’m a locksmith. But are you going to ban Lishi products as well? Those are sold to everyone

Man, I am sure someone is not going to go through the effort of decoding my key one pin at a time then cut themselves a key. At that point they are either going to try destructive entry or else just find someone else with an easier lock to bypass. Picking or decoding locks are not typically methods utilized by criminals anyway. While I don't personally have smartkey locks, I wouldn't highlight them as particularly vulnerable when most people I know have basic Kwickset or Schlage locks attached to doors with exposed latches and/or hinges to begin with.
@prestigelocksmithllc14152 жыл бұрын
NOT ACURRECT : It's not enough just to decode the lock you still need to have additional equipment in order to get the correct key cutting, almost every lock can be pick, bump, drill, decode etc. so what I got from you is not to by locks due to lack of security...
@cardiffpicker13 жыл бұрын
Pretty much irrelevant, a their is far more likely to just chuck a brick through a window than they are to decode a lock. I have been to 1000s of burglaries and not 1 has been through a non destructive attack of a lock.

I installed these locks throughout my house. Everyone of them rekeyed themselves. Don't know how, but these smartkey locks are 100% headache. Very highly discourage from purchasing...

I didn’t like those locks from the very beginning few years back, but now it’s a real issue and people need to know why.

Makes me glad that kwikset dont exist in the country where i live Edit: and for those wondering, most door locks in the country where i live use a euro cylinder (Which I personally think is a good middle ground between having to replace the entire lock, and the lock having a self rekeying mechanism, as the lock cylinder can be easily changed, but you need to have the door open in order to be able to change it)
