KWVR Spring Steam Gala & Llangollen Railway 'Along Birkenhead Lines' Gala

The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and the Llangollen Railway open the spring steam gala season with two big events which were all held on the same weekend. With a combined total of 12 locomotives featured in this video there was plenty of great action to be seen, unfortunately the weather played a big part on proceedings, especially on the Friday at Keighley & Worth, where heavy rain stopped play in the early afternoon. The following day at Llangollen was a slight improvement, although there was still plenty of light showers to be had.
The video starts at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, where the majority of the action is captured around Damens loop and Oakworth. Despite the dull conditions there was some great action with a some nice double headers. The second part of the video shows scenes from Llangollen Railway's 'Along Birkenhead Lines' themed gala. The gala weekend marks the 50th anniversary of two significant events: the last steam-hauled ‘Cambrian Coast Express’ and 50 years since the last through working from London Paddington to Birkenhead (Woodside). Also there was plenty of cameos, displays, and recreations of the said themed event. I could only manage half a day due to other commitments, but thankfully I managed to capture all of the locos on show.

A great video! The crab was wobbling madly, I thought, exiting Keighley. I just love to see Coal Tank at work and typically linked with the Taff Vale tank. The beauty of the Vale of Llangollen captivates me. What a railway setting! Many thanks for your work.

Very impressive shot of the Carb climbing out of Keighley among a lot of steam. Interesting how any engine that visits Keighley always seems to develop a leak from the cylinders. Fine show by the 8F through Berwyn with nine coaches.

Thanks Andrei, it was my first visit to the line so didn't really know that leaking was an issue on this line. I was actually hoping for something a bit better from the 8F, though I was still reeling from last year's double headed manors.

Cracking footage Liam from both Galas . You managed loads of cracking shots on the KWVR from what looked like behinds walls etc so I take you like me don't have a lineside permit . Loved the shot of the 8f at 14-35 .

Well, we can't always get the sunshine. No shower of rain stands in my way, when I visit the Llangollen Railway. I attended the Along Birkenhead Lines Gala on the Saturday. I was too late for my beloved Foxy, but at least I bagged a ride behind Raveningham Hall. I enjoyed myself, yet I'm still waiting for Foxy to return from her long holiday. She will return to Llangollen, we can rest assured.
