I love your channel and you’re advice. I lost my husband 5 years ago to cancer. Since then I have tried to experience life differently. I learned we are not guaranteed anything. Saying that, for the last 3 years I have wanted to hit the road. Now, I know I want an Airstream Basecamp 20x. I’m putting things in order to be able to move forward with this journey. I’ve never pulled ANYTHING, I’ve never dealt with an RV, I’ve really never camped, but in my heart I know this is what I want and that I can do this. My husband told me before he died “ you are strong and you can do anything and don’t forget it when I’m gone”. I will be a solo female with the occasional son and girlfriend hoping on board. Thank you for giving me the push that I can do this! I know I will make mistakes but I will learn.

We are camping next to a solo female, 50+ something year young woman right now. You CAN do it. You WILL learn. The camping community is VERY helpful. If you need help with anything men and women WILL and WANT to help, all you need to do is ask. You probably won’t even need to ask most times if I see someone struggling, I will offer help. God bless, enjoy your journey.

Congrats on your decision to hit the road and believing in yourself! I lost my husband 18 months ago and prior to his death we had a dream to get an RV and tour the country in the summers with our teenage daughter before she leaves the nest. As Trish says "we only get 18 years with our kids" which is what propelled the dream that my husband and I had for our little family. With the desire to fulfill the dream and countless hours of watching KYD videos, I purchased a 25 foot class C motorhome and my 15 year old daughter and I hit the road last summer. We traveled to 15 states in 5 weeks and I'm currently writing this on the last night of our six week/17 state "Summer to Remember" 2021 tour. The gems that Trish and Marc provide have been invaluable . Among the biggest have been to "go slow" (especially when setting up at a campsite), "mind the dip" and the RV community are truly the kindest and most helpful people around. Enjoy the journey and feel good about making your dream come true. Best wishes!

I could totally see Caleb doing a KZbin channel where he visits businesses & interviews them. (Ask them a gazillion questions.) Caleb has an engaging, charismatic personality that really works on camera. He is able to get others talking. He is able to compliment people, get them smiling, and they open up and talk to him. He could ask business owners how they help others, what works, what they've learned, etc. A couple of shows that I love to watch Dirty Jobs & How it's Made are both formats that would work perfectly with his personality. 👍

My wife and I have been discussing an RV for quite some time, we’re getting closer to a decision. There’s so much to consider; full/part time, keep/sell the house, motorhome/trailer, how much space do we need, what do we do with the stuff we don’t use every day, health concerns for two mid 60s persons who think they’re still in their 40s. The list is endless, but we’ll get there.

Right there in your age group. We got a small RV, she’s a Mini Winnie, 24’. I do the driving. I’ve watched KZbins and learned a lot of how-to’s. It is doable. We are part timers. I’m heading out in a week to solo drive from SanDiego to Poulsbo, WA. My husband is still working only can do 10days of vacation. He will fly in/out. I’m not staying home and don’t seeing this beautiful country. Starting small and most likely will stay small. Just get started…..GO!

My husband and I are 60 and 58 with health issues as well. We sold the house, downsized considerably, moved to a 900 sq ft apartment (no yard or house to keep up) and maintain a 10x10 storage unit (we started with a 10 x15) and bought a used RV. For us, it was prioritizing the big issues and solving smaller ones along the way. We also realized we have to do things our way. Our trip to Acadia this summer probably didn’t include all the activities that the thirty or forty somethings did, but we got out there, had some great experiences and made some great memories! We plan to go full time in a couple years when I retire. Best to you both!
@hughwolfe1176
@hughwolfe1176 3 жыл бұрын
@@lynnsmith2276 We’re both retired so that’s not a major issue. We could downsize a bit, although rentals in our area are typically more than what our mortgage is. Unfortunately we can’t afford to own a home and RV, and without an “exit plan” we’re hesitant to sell the house. I’m thinking a used class C or B+ would “jumpstart” our adventures. I’d really like it if a Jeep could be towed for local exploration.

Thank you both for always being honest, true, and down to earth. I’ve heard both of you say, “start small, start now” for about four years now. It finally clicked on what you were saying and I took the plunge and bought my first camper. It’s a small jayco hummingbird but perfect for me. I’ve been out twice now and the rving bug has now bit me harder. I’m currently trying to figure out a way to change careers to where I can work remotely and start traveling. Thank you so much for your inspiration and your how tos. It’s made starting a lot easier.

I'd love to see more about real estate and RVing. I envision keeping our house in Utah and renting it out while we're on the road. But is it too much of a hassle? Ginger 1 is my favorite too because that's when I found you attractive folks. But the wanderlodge has been my dream rig for years and an airstream checks a lot of boxes for me too. Anyways, keep up the good work and thanks for the kiddo update!

I know I have stated this before, but the comment is so applicable with this video. I started with a 17 foot travel trailer pulled by a minivan and 3 kids/wife (five people total, FIVE in 17 feet!). The memories we have are amazing! The RV is a tool, we spent most of our time outside doing things and cooked/slept inside. As I got more money, came a bigger tow vehicle, a bigger RV and then even bigger adventures. Using holidays and all my vacation, I now travel 50-60 days a year of pure bliss. Every year that goes by, I inch my wife closer and closer to full time when we go to retire.

My wife and I may never personally get to experience the true RV life, but because you have been so good to share your travels and experiences, we are getting to have those experiences through you and your family. What you said about only having 18 Summers with your kids really hit home, as many people don't realize how fast those years go. We lost one of our kids at age 13, and that was difficult. But we have the comfort of knowing that we made all 13 of those years/Summers count. I just wish that we had taken up RVing back in those days, as I think the bonding aspect is priceless. Travel safe and God bless.

It would be better to replace the 3208 cat and transmission with a combination from a late model wrecked bluebird bus. Even though your bus is analog and has a solid Powertrain, the later Cummins 6.7l is lighter and more powerful. The 2000 series Allison has a manual shifter or if you had a 3000 series Allison where the shifter is an electric push button, it can easily be configured to your bus. I would not invest money in installing a turbo on the 3208 NA cat. The gain would not be that significant vs cost. The mechanical fuel pump would have to be upgraded along exhaust manifolds, injectors, not to mention cooling system and then the vector aka stall of the torque converter since the torque curve of the engine will change. I work in trucks and busses for a living. Just my input.
@joshuakeener4269
@joshuakeener4269 3 жыл бұрын
The engine will not last putting a turbo on it when the engine is at 100% load. Not sure if even replacing the engine would be good cause it will cost around 40k to do it. Plus you will now have emissions to deal with.. my best advice is to enjoy what you have.

We can't hit the road yet but "start small, start now" led to my own channel and learning about how to make videos (dragging the whole family into the process!LOL!) and the realization that THIS old dog CAN learn new tricks! Ditto on all the comments here. I stopped my little brain exercises. I get it from actually keeping up with your rapid delivery and comprehending it all! Amazing energy you have. Holy cow! Your interactions are like watching a pro ping pong tournament! As a senior traveling solo in the snowbird season, you have given me less to worry about and the courage to just go and enjoy every moment. After 5 weeks on the road I grew lonely (not typical). I am going to concentrate on having downtime goals instead of only highpoint ones. More writing, more audio books. More FaceTime with loved ones. More making friends and opening myself up to that. I'm a loner because of letdowns by people I gave 110% to. You give people a lot to think about in terms of getting into and on with life. Well, on with in my case.

We somehow traveled from Florida to Colorado- driving our rig up 9,900 feet, over 10 to 15 miles of washboard roads to live there for three months. A day dream come true. Of course because we didn’t catch that video on trailer breaks on the way down the mountain, again remembering we didn’t know what we were doing, we came down that mountain smoking, very fortunate our breaks didn’t catch on fire. We now have stories!!! 🤣

It has been many years since I've been to the Marine Barracks in DC. My husband was active Air Force at the time (he is now retired but still supporting the boys in blue at Vance AFB in OK where we're hoping to see Carson some day for Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training) and a friend of ours was a Marine E-8 stationed at the barracks. It was the best experience and the most moving (and we've seen a lot of moving experiences in our Air Force career--I get choked up with the missing man formation each and every time I see it). The Air Force life was great for us and even though we are retired (I retired from AF civil service 5 years ago with 37 years under my belt) we are still part of the Air Force family and you don't get that camaraderie with a lot of jobs.

Another great video from a great couple who are also a great team. Love you guys - and your kids - so much. As an Air Force veteran whose USAF time formed the foundation for my subsequent career, I hope Carson gets his wish for the USAFA (A very close friend of mine retired from the USAF in the 90s and was one of the senior enlisted superintendents at the Academy). Thank you two for all you have done, both for the RV community and all of us in general. Can't wait to meet you all in person on the road at some point, hopefully in the not-too-distant future. Cheers always from Sacramento.

I've gone through 4 travel trailers since 2015, plus I also had a truck camper during all those travel trailer ownership time periods. I finally gave up on a TT and haven't had one in over a year. I did sell my old truck camper last summer, which I had for 10.75 years and replaced it August of last year after selling my last travel trailer. I think I'm done buying/selling RVs for a while. Truck camper is the best thing for my activities.

You had briefly mentioned possibly doing an episode on real estate - yes, please! I'd love to see some of the ins and outs you and other folks have done to be able to have a base somewhere. How do you chose where that base is? How do you manage it when you are out of the area? How is it to share your personal space with "strangers"? Thank you! Wishing you, your family and the extended KYD family all the best.

Great idea to make a video about owning a secondary/vacation home while you're out rving. I'll try to keep my experience short, but it also reverts back to your comment on starting small now with the rving. My dad built a family vacation home for us in Red River, NM. I retired from Tarrant County, Texas over 2 years ago, and I have no idea how many people questioned me on how can they buy their dream home now, and have the vacation renters pay for it over the next 15 years while they are waiting to retire. This is where I popped their happy bubble, Dad went thru 3 to 4 different rental agencies before he developed a relationship that worked, and it took 7 to 10 years for him build the clientele to keep his house rented 2 to 3 months out of the year. He currently makes enough money renting to cover the taxes, insurance, and utilities. Monthly payments, repairs, and furniture replacement still comes out of his pocket. People have a great time while they are on vacation, the town is pack, but it's seasonal. The peak there is mid June to mid August, a week at Thanksgiving, week at Christmas, and 2 weeks at spring break. Plus weekends for memorial day, Halloween etc. Where people usually get time off for work. Dad's home has the beds and square footage to rent legally to 13 people (3 story/3 bathroom) . Is staying as a family we've had 24 in it at one time. Hope this is great info to kick off a new topic for you. Start small and grow, best wishes.

Great video. I am glad to hear that you plan to keep the Bird. We have been RVing now for 3 years. We have a 42' Class A diesel pusher. We love it. The only thing I would have done differently was listen to my inner voice. I am a maintenance fanatic. I prefer to fix or replace things on my time not on the side of the road. For the past year our fresh water pump has been bothering me. It was so loud and wasn't working as I thought it use to in the past. We were on the tail end of our recent month long trip when the pump failed. That night we were coming through Little Rock Arkansas. We couldn't find a camp site. We stayed in a Camping World parking lot for free and they even supplied free 50 amp electric. I bought a few gallons of water from Walmart so we could flush the toilet and brush our teeth in the morning. We were heading to Memphis Tennessee. We have friends that live there. Paul picked up a new fresh water pump for us and the next day we wheeled up to his house. He had all the tools and we swapped out the water pump. In hind sight I should have listened to my inner voice and replaced the water pump before we left. I even had one all picked out on Amazon and had saved it to my favorites list. It worked out well, but that is the only thing I wish I had done differently.

So many easily doable recipes! That says SUCCESS when you your readers find more recipes in your book to actually make than to skip. Of all your rvs, I can honestly say that “The Bird” and the Airstream are my favorites and I sincerely hope you keep them and enjoy them. Both seem to have a depth of quality that is sorely lacking in so many new ones. If I were your age I would happily try either one, but at 76 I have determined I am more comfortable in a Travato KL. It allows me to use it as a daily driver, a weekender, or a cross country traveler without too much stress.

We have 3 grandsons, ages 8,6, and 3 and I know we will be making a lot of memories with them. And of course all of our grown kids are excited too. I just hope they all have tents! LOL. It is awesome that you have had such a wide veriety of RVs. and the cabin. a lot of experiences, hands-on. I grew up camping with my parents until I emlisted. they adventualy became full time RVers and when I got out of the service I started the same RV journey. and now we are Full time. just happened to see your awning clip flash by, I also had that happen. I am sure your kids will keep these memories for ever and posibly start thier own journey like I did do to the experiences my parents gave me. Only someone that has RVed could actually understand just how awesome it is.

The bird is a classic and has a cool factor to it, so definitely a must keep! I was always wondering which one you all liked the best as well. We looked at toy haulers and love the fact of the space but hated the living and kitchen in them. Just about every toy hauler has the same living area with the long straight couch and small counter space in the kitchen, they are not laid out for cozy living room conversations. We looked at RVs for 6 months and finally settled on a 4150 Redwood and we absolutely love it and this model works well for us. It's a new unique floor plan with a large kitchen and very comfortable living room that can seat 6 people comfortable with 2 queen size pull out beds. I would recommend looking at the Redwoods, there are little more pricey, however the quality is good and worth it than dealing with headaches. Not to say that they all don't have issues but the higher priced ones from what I've seen have less issues. Good with the manufacturers that only produce a certain amount per year. QC is a better.
