We enjoyed changing RV's every season to share new experiences, learning, and different ways to travel, but we felt like it was starting to take away from why we began RVing the first place. KYD has always been about "Starting Small Now" and we want to focus on positive content that brings the KYD community together, puts a smile on your face and helps you get one step closer to your dream. As a result, we went back to a setup that we feel is streamlined for this goal. When it comes to big decisions, we have an indicator... too much rationalization is often a warning! The moment we made the decision to go in this direction, there wasn't a second thought. It felt right. Now that we've moved in, our gut was right. One of the reasons we enjoy the RV lifestyle so much is the simplicity and freedom. After being on the road for four years, we've learned what we like and don't like and what we consider to be essential. We think we found the right balance with this rig. We're looking forward to hitting the road with this setup, getting back to monthly meet-ups across the nation and sharing the ups and downs of RV travel. Keep Your Daydream I remember Trish loving the airstream you saw at a park one time. I told my hubby then these guys are going to get an airstream. Nice rig guys. Looking forward to the newbie run through again. I haven’t used my water cause I don’t know how to use it. How to fill what to push if anything the hot water tank I don’t know what or how it fills. Needless to say I’ve had the trailer for 4 years now. Never ran water through it. I don’t have friend that are will to show me how so I’ve be watching you guys for a couple years now hoping to catch a basic lesson. 😊

We bought our 27FT FB Airstream in 2017, we full timed for two years and then last year we bought a Villa at North Texas Airstream Community in Hillsboro, Texas. We have a nice place to stay when we are not traveling, a great place to keep our Airstream out of the weather and a wonderful community of travelers! We are so thankful we bought this place before the Pandemic hit. We love our Airstream and we are so happy to be living riveted!! Welcome to the Airstream community!!

I’m so glad your taking it back to the basics it’s what made us all fall in love with KYD it the first place. Have been looking forward to this episode! My wife and I have been watching for quite some time and thanks to the encouraging words, we are gonna be purchasing a Rig. Sorry about the timing, since the International Rally to have been held this June in Loveland, Colorado was cancelled. If you're not already aware, WBCCI for Airstreamers is an outstanding club. I was pretty sure you were getting an Airstream after the several mentions the "the financial math of a motorized RV is not penciling out". I'm totally with you in that regard. A towable RV brings so much more freedom to explore! Hence the reason I just bought one about 2 weeks ago.

Why would you use a truck to tow motorized RV? I've never heard of that. I would prefer to use my pickup to tow a travel trailer.

@@tomlyles3717 Essentially, you are typically going to spend more on a self propelled RV that will typically have quicker depreciation along with less versitility. A Truck + travel trailer combo works great because you keep your height down which let's you fit more places as well as you get a nice truck out of the deal.

@@adamliggett2621 I guess I look at motorized rvs as more maneuverable....hence freeing. I see big motorhomes backed into sites I wouldn't want to try backing my 38ftr into, all the time. They carry their own generators ...so they are more equipped to boondock , right out of the gate . I see that as more freeing. (Or maybe I'm just want something I don't have..lol) Thanks

@@tomlyles3717 hey there. Four months since you posted, but I am with you on this. I REALLY want to get an older Prevost conversion (20+ yrs old). I love them, and the features and comfort they offer. We already have toads from my wife's Grand Cherokee, to my old Wrangler (talk about freedom to explore!) or I just got a half-ton so have the tow-behind option, but a half-ton really limits our size/features options as you know. I'm still craving the Prevost for just the entire experience, but I'm not sure if having something so big and complex, with dated components will wilt my soul with system failures and maintenance. Were you thinking Class-A?

I was surprised that you went to this. We actually sold our 2015 Flying Cloud 30FB and now have a Grand Design. We lived in ours for a year. We had to go bigger. My sanity couldn't take it anymore. We are full-time RVers.

You are absolutely right. As I am researching the RV,I first choose airstream and then head to grand design 5th wheels. The backlash of airstream is the space so limited,and if one will have full life RV,they will meet a lot of difficults.

You should drop the sway control when you are making tight turns or backing in to a stall, or you will hear a loud scraping noise and fill your drawers. They are looking for another milk truck to haul milk up here if you guys have time. Maybe I missed it did you already sell your Jeep and the 50% of the people cry drop, sorry teardrop? I take it the shower door is one of the roll up type? It's supposed to be very good, since it squeegees the water off as it rolls, but the learning curve of hooking it is steep. I'm not sure I've mastered it yet after two years! Look from outside and it makes sense.

I’m with Chris! We are a family of 6 with a 35ft bunk house travel trailer. We’ve toured a ton of fifth wheels and most don’t have as much usable storage inside as we have. Fifth wheels will run you 5-10k more minimum, are taller, and you loose your truck bed storage. Its also a pain to install your hitch unless you leave it in your truck. We’ve been in our rig almost 2 years full time.

We live in Ca. and it is a messed up state. They try to screw every dollar they can out of you. Beautiful setup you have there. That 250 should ride much nicer that the 450. Great color also. Thought it might be a pusher but wrong again. Maybe the next RV. Sorry for the cracked windshield. Looks like you handled it well. Another good week. You guys stay safe and healthy..

@jim g I retired end of Oct 2018 in N. CA and bought my 34’ Outdoors RV in Chico. Knowing I was moving as soon as possible in the spring, I desperately tried to register it at purchase in Montana where I was moving to. No sales tax in MT. I couldn’t outright buy it and hadn’t established residency so I got extorted for close to $5k in CA taxes. Move to MT, CA sends the 2019 registration fee and they wanted $839 (I about gagged). I registered it in MT, customized word on a specialized plate (there’s like over 100 special interest group plates to choose from). Just a custom plate in CA is around $50 extra a year. All of that combined, $224. Same for my truck and car. PERMANENT, NO REGISTRATION FEES EVER AGAIN. I’m just sorry I didn’t wait until I moved to get the trailer... CA is behind messed up. I had a great job in LE. As a single guy I barely covered living expenses, I don’t know how people in their early 20’s pull off an apt/house and everything else. My insurance here is half the cost. My electricity is over half cheaper. On the other end, I don’t know how Montanan’s with much lower salaries afford homes or new/newish cars...

@@ibMoose2u Glad you were able to get out of Ca. Yes this state run by the Democrats so long and all they want to do is tax tax tax and give to the lazy and illegal. If we did not have medical issues and a lot of doctors I would be out of here. I have been retired for 11 years now. Only thing going for us is everything is paid for and we are prop 13 so property taxes are not bad. If we moved our property taxes would be way higher. Anyway I hope you are enjoying your retirement. Sandra Westley from the UK , we absolutely prefer a trailer, so you are free to go about without dragging the RV with all your clobber, that said parking here is very very limited for R V and most places have height barriers, most RV over here have to travel by bus because it’s impossible on our tiny roads to take RV s everywhere. We are to old to keep waiting for buses that only run every hour, and we also can get lots of rain.

I feel like I made a huge mistake buying an F250 vs a single wheel 350. I also have a platinum and the payload is weak as hell.

I have a 15 ram 3500 srw and my payload is 4100, but I'm pulling a 5th wheel toyhauler. For a travel trailer a 250 will be fine

Motohobo if you says so. I’m over my GVWR on my 2017 F250 with my travel trailer and just me in it. Load up the kids and wife and all their crap in the truck bed and I’m 750ish lbs over. 350 single wheel all the way. It’s only like $1000 more and no downsides. They ride the same

Motohobo i put airbags on it. Doesn’t change ur GVWR. I have a platinum like them so you only get like 2000-2200lbs of payload with that trim and the powerstroke. Mark is informed on all of this and that’s why it surprised me he went with a 250 especially being the 350 is barely any more cost wise.
