Turned out nice. Ï do like the budget build on this rifle. It's too bad those knobs didn't colour the way you had hoped, they look good all the same.

I have an axis in 223. I epoxied a piece of carbon fibre arrow shaft in the frond to stiffen it. Added a weaver one piece Picatinny scope base, vortex crossfire 6-18x44,polished and trimmed the trigger spring and filled the butt with spray foam to get rid of that cheap hollow sound.

All awesome mods for sure! I haven't found the front end to be bothersome. I have a one-piece rail for this one as well (upcoming video), and I also foamed the butt stock to make it a little more solid! :-)

That's a neat idea, I've never seen it done before and I'd feel no regret drilling holes in a plastic stock. A wooden one on the other hand I'd have to really think about.

Want to improve the trigger get yourself the Mcarbo Pro trigger kit for your Axis. Its fantastic. I installed them on both my Axis rifles.

It's funny, cause I had just the opposite experience... Recently picked my .30-06 Axis up for $350, with Weaver 3x9 scope included & installed. And when I started watching videos on-line, I found that there were a LOT more 'practical' shooters out there, who *love* the Axis, than elitists who talk it down... Sure, I know it's 'entry level.' But, once I saw what this 'entry level' rifle is capable of, I was *VERY* happy with my purchase! And now, with about $500 into it (including rattle can cammo paint, bi-pod and a great rifle bag), I have a long gun that *looks* like it's more expensive than it was &, more importantly, *performs* like a more expensive rifle. I couldn't be happier with my set-up! Btw, yours turned out great-- you're right about those knobs being very cool! (Now, before I see your next vid, I'll just say a military-esque 'sniper' paint job would look killer on your rifle!) 🖒😎

Beautiful knobs. I opted for the less expensive pasti with inset nuts commonly found for lawn equip. I did this originally on my Axis stock. I later opted for a Boyd's Pro Varmint (Tacticool) stock. Bedded using JBWeld. I still used my cheek riser as the Boyd's stock was still not quite high enough on the cheek rest. My Axis is in .308 with the "HB" (heavy barrel/varmint barrel/#3 contour barrel).

Very nice James! I thought hard on the boyds, but not sure the axis is worth it. $400 rifle here in Canada. The boyds will cost me that much
@jamesluke7377
@jamesluke7377 3 жыл бұрын
@@kyle_noseworthy $400 Canadian??? When I looked at the A-1 as the example on the basic and doing the conversation, it should be $290 CD and small change before taxes and shipping from Boyd's which is $227 AD. 1.28 is todays conversion rate. Why are they selling so high in Canada I wonder. That's just shy of 2x's conversion rate. Crazy.

Thanks for the vid. I bought my first rifle two years ago - Axis II XP - and loved it. I now have the same in 30:30 and 22-250. Great guns for the price. Scopes suck, tho. I like the tightening knobs for no-tool adjustment in the field. Do you find the bolts turn when you tighten/loosen.

I bought mine years ago off of amazon to save time . I put them on 2 savage axis rifles , 1 ruger american and y/c compass rifle . I also glass bedded them . The most accurate turn out to be the t/c compass , in 2nd was 1 of the savage axis rifles . And last place went to the ruger american . All the rifles are 308 caliber .

I have an Axis chambered in 7mm-08, I have never had an issue with it and it is a great rifle. It's like anything else, take care of it and it will take care of you. This was a great video, I may try something like this in the future. The knobs were super nice. I would maybe try to etch part of the bolt to keep that dark theme going, not sure if you can but worth a try. Would change the recoil pad on the stock to give it that pop when people see it. Thanks for the hard work getting these videos to us. I enjoy them tremendously!

That's a big cartridge. No, I'm not surprised that you haven't found anything 'wrong with it', per say. They're fairly decent rifles, but a bit crude. I think you'll like a few of the other mods I do to this one!

Nicely done project Kyle. Machined knobs are beautiful. You can do a lot with that rifle to make it uniquely yours. Kydex is one of those materials I have wanted to try to work with. I carry a concealed Glock inside a Kydex holster purchased commercially. Problem is that they never fit perfectly and thinking I might try to make one that fits better. That or leather. Anyway, glad to see Kydex is easy to work with. Thanks.

Do you think is a good adea to make a wooden buttstock filler, same shape as the buttstock but slightly smaller, with a light wood (not balsa wood), since it should support and re-enforce the stock.
