I am not a lawyer, but I am almost certain that if they had a lawyer look at the contracts Jim Bob made his kid's sign, they would find a way to get out of them. I was wondering the same thing, too. Everyone knows who this family is, even if you haven't watched the show! I've never seen a single episode, but my mom was obsessed with it when it was on and used to tell me about it. Every time I hear about Jill and her sisters, I wonder if they could get a badass, famous legal attorney who could look through all of these contracts, pick every one of them apart, and destroy Jim Bob AND Josh in court! And not only make them null and void, but guarantee monetary compensation for each one of those kids! With all of this information coming out about the abuse, manipulation, and ties to an alleged cult, I don't see how these contracts could possibly be legal??

The umbrella concept was so disturbing to me, he basically insinuated that he could *prevent* them from getting into a car crash or getting cancer if they were under the span of his protection (control) and once they weren’t they wouldn’t be safe. He completely built the illusion that he could protect them from things completely out of anyone’s control and he used that to manipulate and hold them all under his control. This family is terrifying the more you learn the more you wish you were naive again 😅

Jill didn't humiliate her parents. They did it themselves. At some point, they WERE going to be exposed. Whether in this life or the next. They WILL face judgement. When JB and M did the ridiculous things they did with their kids, did they not think they'd grow up and some of them would see something was wrong? There is totally a spectrum of this thought process alive and well in some conservative parenting circles. I studied it a LOT and tried to implement it but then my eyes were opened. "Blind obedience" didn't seem useful to teach kids how to THINK and I was concerned how they'd process that when they were teens and adults. My experience might have made me swing too far the other direction, bc I didnt want to be MEAN. Parenting is so confusing!!! Trying to raise kids who have confidence and kindness seems like a tricky secret.

I think you're right about JimBob being the one who started all this. The story goes that after Michelle had Josh, she had a miscarriage. It was after that miscarriage, that JimBob basically guilted HER over it, telling her she had that miscarriage because she had used birth control. It was then that they started in on the IBLP. As much as I loathe Michelle, I do think she was manipulated while she was vulnerable.
@debbiemckeown7626
@debbiemckeown7626 8 ай бұрын
I think that as well. While Jim Bob was raised Christian his family are not IBLP and it gradually started to creep in after they got married and had children. First it was stop birth control after they lost their baby then it was homeschooling using ATI. He likes being in control and used that to his advantage.

JB claims that their OB told them that birth control could have caused the miscarriage, which made them choose to stop using the Pill. We have only his word that this is true, bc you know that Michelle backs JB up 💯%. It's not true & I've never heard that before, so was their doctor misinformed or did JB make up the story to justify their 'Quiverfull' beliefs? What is true is that malformed or sick fetuses can spontaneously abort, maybe that was twisted to say the birth control pill caused the baby to not form correctly.

The NDA thing clarifies something that I (and I’m sure a lot of people) wondered: why Jill has been treated so poorly for speaking up, while Jinger hasn’t. Jinger seems to toe the line, critiquing the IBLP system, while stopping short of criticizing her parents. So while both (and others, like Jessa and even Joy) have left IBLP, it seems like Jim Bob and Michelle aren’t as bothered by people leaving those teachings as it initially seemed, and even use the rules, like the pants thing selectively depending on who it is and what the situation is. It’s more about *their* image, which is just further proof of what false “Christians” they are.

It was the line "your sister asked permission, she respected us enough to care about our teachings and our feelings" when it comes to wearing pants!! A grown adult woman who has suffered, then suffered further for the sake of TV material that she was locked into, and then some more, asking parents permission to wear pants!! I don't even understand the reasoning for pants, they aren't immodest, to be honest it screams misogyny more than anything. I can't express enough hate for fundamentalist and extreme religion, I don't even like religion in general, but the more enforced it is the more uncomfortable and unpleasant feelings I experience. Jim Bob and Derick met after he had lost his father and his mother was seriously ill with cancer and Derick initially looked up to him but once Derick realised how his wife had been treated he stood up for and himself and Jim Bob didn’t like that and thought Derick was going to be the model son in law. I think Jim Bob doesn’t like Derick and Jeremy because they are smarter than him and went to college, that intimidates him.

28:28 that contract might be legally binding, but if a3use was happening (which it seems likely) I think it might be void. You can’t be bound to a contract that breaks the law. If one of the kids who signed were to speak out I wouldn’t be surprised if the “parents” tried legal action BUT it might cast an even bigger light on what we don’t know.

Wow, just Wow!!!! Everytime I watch one of these videos on the Duggar family or the sister wives, I'm like there's no way that this can be worse than what you covered before..... then I watch it and get even madder! I 90% agree with everything you just said, apart from the small part of me where Kody is involved... I know hes likely just incredibly good at covering his bad behaviour up, but my wife and I have rewatched the early series of sister wives, and whilst a fair amount I can totally believe it all being a lie, there are some moments that feel incredibly genuine within those first few series. At one point he appears so genuinely caring and lovable towards all four of his wives and the kids, and there was a lot of closeness there even with Robin and the other wives. If you look how long they "seemed" to be happy for, although there were definitely cracks showing, as each new series, especially in recent years has played out, the closer to what I can notice as "a snap" happened for him. TLC is a trash channel, whatever makes good tv is a green light even at the demise of the participants/stars!! The man is an arse, just gonna say. I don't believe for one second he's a wonderful, lovely, sweet guy, because he isn't. But I compare it to pouring fuel on an already roaring fire and watching it spread for views

When I heard that Josh was in the room when they did the interview. My jaw hit the floor. The fact that these young ladies who where victims of Josh, had to do the interview in the first place is cruel. I forget what channel Megyn Kelly was on at the time, but they didnt see that Josh being there was wrong. They couldn't of at least say he needs to not be in here, while the interview is going on. They all know what Josh did to his sisters & let him hang like it was nothing. Laws need to catch up with the times. Reality shows are nothing new now. They need laws for the children. I don't think they should be on reality to eat just like family channels. If there's going to continue haveing reality shows, then at least give these children something. Where they're only allowed to be on camera a certain amount of time. Where they have to set aside money for the children, for when they turn 18. It sounds like the TV crew spends so much time with reality families. You can tell me that they never see anyting wrong & just over look it. I just don't know how parents bring children into the world only to use them as work horses & dont pay them. Letting their children give up their childhood. It's a shame parents are supposed to be the ones that protect their children.

Yeah, Josh being in the room in that Megan Kelly interview was so creepy, but that was the SECOND TIME those poor girls were humiliated and mortified in public, re what Josh did to them. The first time was in THEIR CHURCH, in front of the congregation. Literally, those poor girls (and they were much younger) were FORCED to sit in the front row, while Josh was forced to recant what he had done to them. IN FRONT OF ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT THE GIRLS WOULD SEE EVERY SUNDAY!!!! This was when Josh had to shave his head as "penance". So wherever they went and people stared and whispered, they had no idea if they were saying, " Oh that's the sister that was fingered by her brother Josh"!!!🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮😡😡😡😡😡 That something so gross/vile (yet exceedingly private) was made public by her parents is beyond despicable!😱😱😱😱

Right. The book "Train Up A Child" made its way through conservative circles and basically had kids be slaves to their adult parents and punishment was withdrawing food and shelter (a girl in our town was left out in the cold and died). You hit every single important issue here. Fabulous job!! I also thought "Darn, they really wanted to be that ideal fam huh?" You could tell. I also very much agree there's an odd tone to the book and the family has a weird way of taking things that are innocent such as dancing and turning it into something else, more adult-like. To me, they often s2xual~ze children when it's unnecessary even in those certain situations or they go out of their way, like with the gas station thing, to put their kids in these adult-like situations that kids should never be in under the guise that they're "teaching the kids a lesson" or that they are being these moral, amazing parents. It's weird, right? I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets bothered by this. Those two points to me were the most important because it really does show the type of people they are to their core and then you can see how everything else lines up how it does...due to their odd way of thinking about children and adult-like issues...and really everything else, right? I grew up in a Catholic home that wouldn't let me watch the Simpsons because it was considered a bad show, for example. I know how it sucks to be sheltered as a child to normal things that everyone else gets to experience, with joy. It bothers me that these parents do that to their kids while simultaneously also dragging them into these weird adult-like situations over adult topics to "teach them" you know? Seems very hypocritical to me and I'm glad you've pointed that out so well here. Great review. Thank you! I never got through the book, it was too much for me personally. So you're stronger than I LOL

You made such a good point about this family and other super religious strict families- by them teaching their children that if you dance or wear pants, or a whole slew of other things, that this will make people think dirty thoughts… this brings up an idea or a fear in a young child that would not even have normally occurred to them. It, in a way, takes away a part of their innocence. They now see the world in a corrupted way. Like you said, they now think that we are like that, when in reality, the majority of people, seeing an 8 year old dancing, would just smile and think it’s cute! We wouldn’t be staring at their bottom and thinking dirty thoughts. That, and so many other things they did were a form of mental abuse. Every one of these kids is going to have a warped point of view when viewing the world

It is never the responsibility of children to ensure that adults don't think inappropriate things about them. It is the responsibility of adults to not be a fucking creep about children. If an adult cannot do that then they need to stay away from children and go to legitimate therapy to unpack why they're having those thoughts about children. It makes me so angry that the Duggar parents put all that responsibility on their children while also allowing their son to abuse children.

I read the book. There were things that I didn't know, but wasn't surprised to hear. Jill tried to come to an understanding with her parents privately. Jim Bob didn't want that. He wants total control of her siblings and their children. I'm going to add spouses to that as well. To me Ben is portrayed as someone who isn't very bright, so Jim Bob knew he could control him easily and he would fall in line. I bet he probably regrets the day he introduced Jill to Derek. The fact that he paid Josh is sickening. It wouldn't surprise me if Anna had to sign a NDA as well. Jim Bob knows he isn't thought of fondly and is making sure his kids don't talk about him and Michelle. Josh will always be the golden child no matter what he does.

This cult and way of living is such an enabling environment for abusers and predators. When "courting" they have to be supervised every moment so no really candid conversations can happen, and an abuser can easily just say all the things the young woman's parents want to hear. And with how rushed they are, there's no time to get to know that person. I'm also so sad the other kids signed that contract with Jimbob and with a lifelong NDA can never speak out. 😢
