Thank you for the good advice Kyle. Very encouraging! The process is what learners should enjoy more. It's the most beautiful experience in the learning curve they say.

I just started painting again after many years. Your beginner video tutorials are amazing! I am painting faster with the paper towels & getting simple studies done very fast. My paintings have a freshness that I never had before! You are the reason! Thank you so much! Getting to a reasonable point in a painting faster really improves the end result. I can do almost an entire painting with the paper towel method! I have started many paintings now and am working on 2 or 3 every day. You are an awesome teacher. I wish I found you a long time ago.

Kyle, can't believe I haven't found you before. Your videos are fantastic! I really appreciate your mantra of simplicity. Oil painting can be over whelming for beginners, not only the vast array of supplies available, but all the "rules" of actual putting paint to canvas. I've been painting over 25 years and I still get overwhelmed sometimes. You have done a great service by showing that the tools don't make the artists, but how you look at what you are seeing.

Of all the online tutorials I’ve watched over the years your technique for painting looser is the absolute BEST. I tried it with a painting of irises and turned out to be the best work I’ve ever done. Thank you, Kyle.

important comment that stood out...you mentioned that its important to know what the finished painting should look like. The more I go out and paint a spot, the more i can "see" it finished.

kyle your advice of imagining the subject matter as being made out of paint, is the best advice I've ever used. It is so freeing as a painter to stop thinking in terms of how can I get this paint to look "real", "natural", or whatever? But, instead to just enjoy the pleasure of making "reality" look like a painting. Thank you Kyle. Your a fantastic teacher, and I love your work. ✌out.

Hi. Thank for this. It am standing in front of a mountain full of trees, and have been trying to figure out the best way to tackle it, as its full of details. It never occurred to me to paint with a paper towel, cloth. I am gonna try it. Lovely work btw. Cheers!

Very interesting! I'm not a fan of impasto. I just don't like heavy texture, not even on the walls in my home. I've spent a lot of time removing heavy texture off of walls in new homes because I disliked it so. For that reason, I have to say that I loved the painting before adding the impasto. I am going to try painting using a paper towel, for sure. Thank you.

Good painting; I got to love your loaded palette!! I don't do that cuz mine's in my Open Box M, not that much room, but try to put out enough paint so I'm not ending up trying to paint without paint!! Had a plein air workshop instructor once who was known for his biting wit as well as his great paintings. He'd go around to look at palettes and typically comment on the "paint stingy painters" with these itsy bitsy little dabs of paint on their palettes; mostly they were women, sorry but true! He'd say in a loud voice: "Use some paint for godsake!! They'll make more"!!! LOL. :D

right, also appreciated no music, which can often compete with the information being given. Besides it seems never "my cup of tea" music and often detracts rather than adds anything. I did enjoy the bird songs however, being a birder, and because that is often what you hear out there painting in nature, or maybe a nice refreshing "babbling brook" nearby your spot if painting in the mountains!! One of the true "dangers" of painting en plein air, at least for me, is it is so darned enjoyable, once you get some success at it, that it may make you view your studio as a "dungeon" or something!! LOL. :D

@ronschlorff70895 жыл бұрын
try a small piece of cotton rag, like an old T-shirt; it will work as well, you may need to tear up a little supply of them for each painting. They do make some very tough and durable paper towels in the USA, like Hefty, or Brawny, so that may not be a problem here.

I’m not sure there is bad painting unless it’s an absolute shocker and it looks like nothing but blobs of paint like a paint pallet , some paintings I’ve done I really thought were rubbish and yet other people liked them so I I think it’s up to one’s perception on what they think , if someone liked the painting I didn’t like I generally give them the painting to take home lol …not all is lost sometimes.

I hope everything is going better for you man. I've found the best remedy for depression (or at least controlling it down to the size of a little monster you only need a small tupperware container to keep it in) is simply action. Staying active in any way, shape, or form (which includes creating art of course). Oh, and a long with healthy eating and exercise.
@ronschlorff70895 жыл бұрын
sometimes it is as simple as having a good reason to wake up each morning with something enjoyable to do. Art can often help in that regard. You see the morning sun and you say, "oh good, think I'll go out and paint today"!! It won't matter, at first, if it is good or not; the important thing is the experience of doing it, and having something tangible as a "document" of that experience. That will be your canvas, all covered up in a pound of thick paint, like this guy has here!
