Kyle Dubas flatters himself by saying that this alone was his biggest mistake. His valuing skill over size and grit, letting key players leave for nothing and emptying the draft pick cupboard, were all huge mistakes as well.

​@kamibains7259 He's still good, just not worth 11 mil. That was always going to be the case when he was signed. Problem was his age didn't align with the window of the young core, so signing him to a deal that was bound to get worse with age set a window for winning before he became overpaid... That is unless he was able to get Marner Nylander and Matthews to good contracts so he could still fill out the rest of the roster. He didn't do that, and the core 4 didn't perform well enough in the playoffs to make up for the holes throughout the roster
