I've said before that the best thing the Penguins can do is bring up the young guys while Sid and the big guns are there to help raise them. But to make that work, you have to have a coach that will let them play. And not just a handful of games, some of these guys need to put in full seasons and be given the chance to be NHLers they're not going to become that in the AHL. And they'll be growing pains but it'll be worth it in the long run.

I like the rule that the PWHL had for the penalty kill jailbreak. If you're on the power play and give up a shorthanded goal, your power play ends.

I completely agree with you Pat, the days of the tear it down to the studs rebuilds are done. This is a different era of the NHL compared to the early part of this century. The salary cap has changed the dynamic of the NHL and since the league escrow is a non issue, the flat cap era is done so it's going to increase. Also, I agree with what Dubas says, be careful what you wish for not only mentioning Detroit and Ottawa, but you see Montreal and even the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo has gone through probably two rebuilds and guess what people, they haven't sniffed the playoffs for almost 15 years. The way the Penguins want to do this, I agree with. You keep your core veteran guys and build around them. Even though the core veteran guys have a couple of years left, they can still mentor these younger players before they walk away. I also think that's why a guy like Bryan Rust will stay around, because once the big 3 move on, Rust will be that veteran presence that these newer players look up to.

They could create a category of penalties between a two minute minor and a five minute major, like a two minute major, which, like you'd suggested, does not expire with a power play goal, and lasts the full two minutes. You could also add a five minute minor category, granting a man advantage for five minutes, or until a goal is scored, whichever happens first.

Pressure, we gotta suck to get get Haggens, that rat with McGroarty, we can build the black and gold philosophy of smash-mouth style play. Tankathon 2025 and 2026 here we come.

We'd be better off with Martone rather than Hagens if you're looking to build a power forward heavy team.

I like some of these rules that could boost offense. But I think doing it like baseball where the rules are only regular season would be the best. I love the authentic and traditional style of the game in the playoffs and I wouldn’t want that touched

Drew O'Connor should get scratched for a game. He should be the one coming out for Hayes on Friday (if he comes back then). We haven't seen much of Ponomarev because he's had such little time on ice. These young guys could really inject some life into this lineup, but we aren't seeing the same level of trust between Sully and the young guys like we once did when Sully first got hired so many years ago. I'm not sure if that's due to these guys not being Sullys guys, but it needs to change. The young players need to be able to feel trusted by the head coach without fear of being benched or scratched.

>O'Connor should get scratched for Hayes >These young guys could really inject some life into this lineup. Huh???? Clearly you haven't watched the last few games. 3rd line has been the best line lately.

@brandonrickner1321 O'Connor can literally do no wrong on this team man. He's 26 and is what he is at this point. He's a trade chip who probably won't be on the team past this season. Yes, he's had a good stretch of games but overall he really hasn't played the best and should get sat for a game or 2.

The biggest thing that the Pens could do, right now, to improve results is to change the system, and that will, most likely, require a coaching change. The players have shown, for the last few seasons, that they cannot play Sully's system like they used to play it. Far too many times when the defensemen "activate" and no forward drops back to cover the blue line. Far too many times when you have both defensemen and one or two forwards getting trapped behind their own goal line, leaving opponents free reign in front of the net.

My 1% chance of happening rebuild. Trade Sidney Crosby to Vancouver for Elias Pettersson whose no trade kicks in next year. We'll have a new center with an 8 year deal. Sid plays in Pittsburgh West where he scored the golden goal and he has a chance at a Cup. Trade Geno at 50% retained to the Capitals for Ryan Leonard. Geno can play with Ovi as the 2 best Russians ever as Ovi goes for the goal record. Trade Letang to Montreal for Arber Xhekaj or Logan Mailloux and Brendan Gallagher's contract. Or Letang for Matheson. Trade Rutger McGroarty for Trevor Zegras. Pettersson and Zegras are our new centers. Trade Marcus Pettersson and tank next 2 years for Gavin McKenna and Landon Dupont who will have center icemen in place. Bring Sid back when his contract expires. If I only had Elon Musk's money I'd buy the Pens fire Dubas and trade them all with a purposeful fire sale.
