Every show I've been to had some crowd work going back to the '90s. The rise in popularity online seems to be more the result of comics simply wanting to post new content without spoiling their set for their current tours.

Schultz put the nail in the crowdwork coffin
@tim.noonan10 ай бұрын
Nah that was his lapdog Akaash. He’s eerily capable of picking things out about people in the crowd out of nowhere, but he is SUCH a douchebag about it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t even have any written material he works on anymore.
@ricand549810 ай бұрын
They both suck. Their idea of “crowd work” is asking the audience questions and repeating it back to them, at least Stav does bits

Matt Rife did, are you joking?
@El_Kanto10 ай бұрын
I don't like his written material and don't really follow his stuff anymore but Schultz crowd work a couple years back was really fucking funny and so wildly successful that it actually inspired a flood of copycats trying to become famous on the internet. Matt Rife being one of the worst offenders.

I feel the same way about most stand-up crowd work as I do when the singer at a gig tells the audience "you know the words. Sing my songs for me." Anyway, big up Eldis and his fat Turkish sidekick.

Crowd work is a trick on the audience. The audience THINKS it’s more difficult, because he’s making it up on the spot. But it’s actually way easier than writing well crafted jokes. The problem is, you can’t do it on tv. So these guys flounder on the lower club scene till they get old.

Crowd work is fine in measured amounts but it seems like a ton of comedians lean entirely on it these days and one can't help but wonder if they just plant people in the audience.

Crowdwork comedy is extremely hack. Especially when it’s a well liked comic because most audiences if they like the comic will just laugh anyway. Stay is good at it but there’s a lot of trash and they quickly get found out when they have to do a proper set

The only real skill to it is having the confidence to do it in front of a big crowd. Every other dude you meet at a bar is basically doing crowd work when they talk to a new person, they just dont have an audience watching them.

@callanc392510 ай бұрын
@@Mannyr-bu7qv the writing side of crowdwork in stavs case is just having a few set questions you ask every audience because you know its easy to clown the answers. In someone like big jays case the crowdwork is just a method to get to his written material, which isnt really crowdwork except for the first 20 seconds of the bit.
