@Kazuhira Miller its worse.. much worse depending on where you work and i probably work at one of the most hardcore highest grossing dealership in Colorado. its not about hitting goals its pure greed. a pre-req for where i work is a proven track record of earning 6 figures selling cars. at 98% of dealerships if you suck you dont get fired.. you just dont make money and quit.. at mine, i've seen people get fired 4x in a year for not being an animal. so kinda natural selection. i made $35k on the front end of a deal.. i've sold a $15k car for $25k... i've hit a custom ordered vehicle (which has a preset price) marked up $7k and ate $5k of rebates. you can be as sketchy.. or even at times illegal as you want as long as you are moving units and hitting home runs.. basically the rumors are true... but this kinda sales is a dying breed and more and more dealerships are moving towards just moving units and making money on the back end (finance) and as a tip.. the finance guys are there generally because they held the most gross when they sold cars... so the finance guys have proven to be the best at destroying people as much as the banks would allow. so keep your guard up, you're not out of the fire yet and generally say no to everything except GAP and watch your monthly payment drop a fair amount. your best bet for new cars at least for GMC, Toyota, Ford, Honda types ... is just email 5 dealerships in the area on a specific stock number and say i want stock #xxxx at invoice minus rebate. 2/5 will say yes and 1/5 will email u the invoice and the price after rebate and ask you when you can come in.

Funny thing is there are actual situations where on a specific deal we really are losing money. BUT we rely on our volume numbers to make up for the loss. The manufacturer has volume bonuses. Most people dont know, but we make more off volume, than being over priced. But in short yes it is rare where we are truly losing outright with some sort of kickback. But I promise you this I've personally sold cars where we really did lose money all the way around. The only reason we do it is to hit that volume bonus. That's why the end of the month is when we are extremely aggressive on our price. More people get great deals than bad deals.

My buddy messaged me all excited and wanting me to see his new car. I was outside as he pulled up and knew before he stopped that something was off. After I pointed out that the roof looked out of square we pulled the interior plastic off of the pillars around the hatch and could see that someone had repaired some severe damage to the back part of the roof. Idk if a tree fell on it or what, it should have been totalled but came with a clean title. He kept it for a few months but hated it the whole time. I think that having good credit helps at dealerships because I've always had pretty good experiences. I never buy any dealer extras and it's always an in/out deal. But I generally know exactly what I want and only even call a specific dealer if I think they have what I'm looking for. I actually just bought a 2022 gr86 a couple weeks ago and paid msrp which is pretty nuts in this market

I sold cars for a very short time. I honestly could not take advantage of people and quit that job not long after starting. I tried working at a couple of different dealerships and they were all the same. I was disgusted by how people were taken advantage of and how dirty the car business really is. The repair and service centers are no different.

@neal cassady Maybe you're right, but it seems like white collar criminals get away with worse crimes. They target investment funds and life savings and they steal extremely large sums of money. When they get caught, they seem to go to nicer prisons (if they get prison at all) and get lighter sentences. They're all disgusting.

Haha your talking about the Ford Freestyle which turned into the Ford Taurus X which turned into oblivion. Horrible looking station wagon crossovers with a swooping lump in the roof line and most came with an absolutely terrible CVT trans that was plagued with solenoid problems for most owners. The color you mention is Titanium green metallic and oddly enough was one of the most popular colors for that vehicle. God that takes me back.

The only thing shadier than a politician is a used car salesman.
@andrewfusco85804 жыл бұрын
At least with the used car salesman, you get a car out of your interaction. All you'll ever get from a politician is less freedom and higher taxes.
