I don't think it has ever happened to me being so disinterested in Playstation new IP and first party games after so many of them were presented. Sony is about to discover very soon that focus on multiplayer may be beneficial for finances but will take a huge toll on the brand.

The deal with Symbiont Spiderman is that his whole thing is feeling more powerful and reconciling with how that power affects him. Giving a player "new toys" to play with and making those new attacks feel unnecessary violent and a little gross is a very effective way of translating this conflict to the Player experience directly. So I'd say that giving Spidey straight up Venom powers is the right call for what's a video game about Venom.

I feel like Peter's portion might live or die by its enemy and encounter design. If we don't get enemy types that counter his more aggressive playstyle i can absolutely see it getting stale after some time.

I personally think that it will be fun, but will be more involved with the story. You hear it in the dialogue that Harry is dying and they need Connors to help Harry. There's a really good chance Peter's addiction to the power will indirectly cause the death or ability for Connors to help. Which will ultimately lead to Norman blaming Spider-Man for Harry's death and creating the Green Goblin.

I don't think the format should be retired, I see it as fundamentally good and highly functional. Heck of a lot better than Sony's last in-person E3 show. I think Sony should show up with more of its own games to show next time, more release windows for every game, and, frankly, better trailers. Dragon's Dogma 2 being hurled into the searing spotlight half-formed and floundering around for a minute was inexcusable, I know it's better than that. This was a high-caliber Xbox showcase, through and through.

It's a little funny to see people complain about Dragon's Dogma trailer floundering, though I suppose it could come off that way to the newcomers. I saw cool monsters that require a number of different approaches, fighting them with a variety of cool methods like magic that manipulates the environments and team-up moves, and cat-people. This is enough to make me excited, though I admit that to lure in a newcomer much more time could be spent on showing how it's battle-system works, and what differentiates it from your typical Monster Hunter or other open world games. But to bemoan the dialogue? In what world would ANYONE ever presume this game would have dialogue that isn't perfectly represented by exactly the kind of rote lines he complains about? This is not a bad trailer in that regard, because it tells you EXACTLY what the game is, what level it strives for. A trailer where the dialogue wasn't silly nonsense dressed up as "serious" or "mysterious", would just be dishonest. Although I guess it COULD also be a trailer where a bunch of Pawns just fire off their battle dialogue in such rapid succession that it sounds like a bizarre KZbin poop-video, that too would be a very truthful depiction of Dragon's Dogma... hm. Much to consider.

Oh and don't worry about the mismanaging part, Zenimax is on that themselves :- ) (Nakamura's health declining and thus leaving Tango was pretty much the result of this, likewise the whole of Redfall falls on Zenimax/Bethesda and who knows what else stems from that direction). I'm honestly glad that they acquired Obsidian because that gave us Pentiment, which very likely would not have happened otherwise. Hoping for similar projects from them in the future. But anyway, these new studios that Sony bought aren't gonna live long if their GAAS projects fail, which they just very much might. All of them are practically "Shooter, BUT" which is pretty much creating competition in an already heavily contested space.

Wipeout had so much potential man like how did Sony completely skip the entire EDM era? Wipeout is what got me into stuff like Chemical Brothers as a kid. Even if they just reskinned the game with improved graphics each console gen and gave us sick soundtracks it could have been a culturally iconic brand everyone would want to buy the game just to get the amazing forward thinking futuristic soundtracks. He's in such stark contrast to Phil Spencer, Koizumi, Reggie, Miyamoto, Shawn Layden, etc who are obviously all business people too but they all give off the impression that they play games regularly

One thing about Symbiote Spidey is that using the suit DOES feel good to him. The huge power boost is addicting and so it should be addicting to the player as well. It preys on those feelings. It isn't until Peter can reflect on what he's done that he realizes its bad. So, I think, making the player go through the same process by making the earlier suit powers super fun to use and then making the player see the consequences (either through story or gameplay) is a cool way to do that. If they want to go all out what i think they should do is have a hidden Venom meter. The more you use your ultra-violent powers the more likely you are to have Venom take control and the players buttons suddenly do nothing while the game just plays itself. Nothing sucks more than feeling like your inputs mean nothing in a video game so having Venom literally take control away from the player would translate Peter's risk perfectly.

The scenario you're describing about wrestling the control away from the player sounds like such a risky move as it will "lessen the fun" and no doubt make people complain how stupid mechanic it is. And that's exactly why you can't do that in a game for the masses.

I would argue the black suit should be fun and satisfying to a player, at least at first. It would let the player experience Peter's temptation of using the suit directly. It would, how you say, make you feel like Spiderman. Depending on how they handle the story it could be a really good adaptation. (Idk, maybe it's harder to remove if you've racked up too many Venom-points, or Venom's boss fight is harder bc you upgraded the symbiote more then the normal suit, could even have branching paths) Also, there's definitely gonna be like 20 unlockable venom costumes, I'd put money on one of them being the OG pitch black look.

I think after almost 3 years into this 'next gen' we have to face up to the fact that gaming ain't what it used to be. Were still stuck in a cross-gen quagmire with less games than ever being released, very few new IP's but a whole load of remakes, remasters and reimaginings. I've been racking my brain to figure out why i was so disappointed by this showcase, and then explaining to people why i was disappointed, then when i list all the games shown they say, loads of games and they seem good too. So i think i realised what it was. The hype was the issue. In 2 ways. Calling it a showcase, but also, the lack of build up/hype for the trailers. The pacing of an E3 show would have a developer or a host hype up what was going to be shown. Imagine the FF7 Remake trailer without the intro.
