I can say with my personal usage the iMac can do all pro tasks and not just everyday tasks. If we all recall what the M1 could do well then it’s simple the M3 can do it all. Be careful basing purchases off “pro” users or people who get review products from apple.

@@alejandrito8151 I had a 2013 iMac and the video card ended up dying on me around 2021, got a 2015 5k refurb ( which was a nice upgrade for the 5k alone) and held out for a 27in M series iMac that never came. Ended up getting the iMac M3 and got used to the size within a few hours. The Studio and Max stuff are overkill generally. There is nothing they can do that the iMac can't. If people were editing video, producing music, doing photo editing, etc. all on IMac's with less power before, then can still do it now, especially since the M Series chips are on another level compared to the Intel ones they succeed.

Nice review. I had a Mac Mini M1 with 16GB and 1TB HD. It got sluggish if I pushed it with video or I did a lot of intensive apps at the same time. I waited on a refurbished M1 Ultra with 64GB of RAM and 1TB of disk space. It does not disappoint. The big advantage of the Ultra is you have more everything x2 plus Thunderbolt ports on the front. I always drop a nice mat on my desk to put monitors and computers on. It gives the mouse better response without a pad and it keeps me from scratching the desk. It also prevents my desktops from slipping when plugging things in. Thanks for the honesty and detail. Cheers

All three computers are overkill for my needs as a writer, editor and moderate gamer, but the M1 Max Studio stood out as the best value for me. Not only did I find it at a nice 10% discount, and I didn't feel like paying an extra $400-500 for two extra CPU cores and six more GPU cores in the M2 Max, but a few sources showed how the M2 Pro and M1 Max have very close CPUs but the M1 Max has a substantially more powerful GPU.

The release of the M3 chip was my reason to wait and I was watching several peoples reviews getting more confused as Apple offered to many upgrades at high prices and to many videos on just specs and performance comparisons without showing every day use pros and cons in the real world where your review focused on a year of usage as to how a user feels using the devices. The thing I like about the Intel i Macs was more ports, SD slots, being able to physically memory upgrade was cheaper with after market than Apple's a la cart menu, and of course not having a DVD drive. All got features that made an Apple computer more worth buying. I like to see you review the i Mac 3rd party add-ons for storage bases with added ports, fast aftermarket memory chip and holders that add the features Apple charges a lot for or removes ports or connectors on.

Hi Kyle, & Happy New Year! Thanx for the video! I was wondering if I could have your thoughts on which desktop mac to buy. I currently have an old MacBook Pro 2012 (16gp & 512gb ssd + 512gb hdd (replaced the dvd drive with this - store only photos & videos) & it’s slowly dying on me. Bluetooth keeps disconnecting and doing rendering, regardless of size in Adobe AI, it takes forever, plus I can’t get any of the latest updates for software. I wish to get a mac that would be powerful enough for Adobe AI 3D imaging and larger illustrations, photo editing in Adobe LR & PS, and running the other Adobe Suite apps, as I learn to use them. I was waiting for the m3 chip, but now I just can’t wait any longer, as the slowness of my beloved Macbook Pro is driving me insane. I am pondering should I get the Mac mini M2 - 8 CPU/10GPU 24GB / 512GB SSD (€1439) (1TB SSD is +€230); or Mac mini Pro M2 10CPU/16GPU 32GB / 512GB SSD (€2059) (1TB SSD is +€230). The Mac Studio starting price in Finland is €2449. There is a huge price difference in the options. So my question is, if you were me, what Mac would you get & with what specs? I’m a hobbyist, so not my main source of income. Right now I can’t even create a pivot table in Numbers, as can’t upgrade the app 😂 What would be your recommendation? I’m happy to put in the money, if need be, but I’d rather not, if not necessary. Or, do I get the base modal 8GB/256GB for the time being and wait for the M3 to arrive, which we have no idea when, but I can’t wait until then to buy a new mac. All input is appreciated & thanx in advance:

Hey Kyle, wanted to ask you about using external drives with Macs. Do they need to be ejected after every use or can they be left mounted at all times? I am asking because sometimes I experience "disk not ejected properly" once the Mac wakes back up from sleep. Is this normal assuming the drive, cable and usb ports are not defective?
@KyleErickson8 ай бұрын
Assuming you've got your drive directly connected to your Mac, here is what's likely happening with that - Your mac is going to sleep and reducing power to external accessories, and your external drive no longer has enough power to run, causing it to eject or unmount itself. What I personally do to alleviate this is use a powered hub or dock alongside the Mac, that way my drive isn't dependent on getting it's power from the machine. If you don't want to use something like that, I would probably either eject it manually or find a tool to automate that process before it sleeps.
@jessefallas70948 ай бұрын
@@KyleErickson Thanks for your detailed reply. Would you apply this protocol to both MacBooks and Mac desktops since Mac desktops are always on power? Also if the computer is reducing power to the drive and that message pops up, is it as if you just unplugged the drive without ejecting? Also regarding the Samsung T7, this seems to be a non issue. The drive seems to stay mounted when the Mac is asleep even when closing the lid. When the Mac wakes back up it seems to stay mounted and I don’t get that error message. Can you let me know what your experience is with the T7? I had a G-Drive that would improperly eject when left mounted on both my Mac mini and my MBP and so therefore I would get that error message.
@KyleErickson8 ай бұрын
that G drive probably uses a lot more power, causing it to cut out due to lack of power required where the T7 may satisfy those requirements. If it's on a MacBook you can also head to Settings, and under battery, click the options button, and there are some options for putting your disks to sleep you can play around with. May or may not help.
@jessefallas70948 ай бұрын
@@KyleErickson I actually contacted WD and went through some troubleshooting. They’re issuing me a replacement because all the problems I had seemed to have been with that G drive regardless of computer, cable or using a dock or not. Thanks for your replies.

Thank you, for your excellent long term review comments of Apple's three (3) main desktop computer systems. For anyone new to Apple computers, I always recommend they start with an All-in-One system. Today, that would be a colorful 24-inch M-3 iMac. Also, I would suggest at the time of purchase they order the longer keyboard (with the number pad) and the track pad. Trust me, there is nothing like starting your journey as an Apple desktop user with a complete system. Since, I prefer the smaller size and form factor of the "mac mini" Pro models. I would like to see Apple, Inc. add an SD card reader to the front of the "mac mini" similar to the "Mac Studio". In addition, it would be be nice if Apple, Inc. also added back the IR sensor (that they removed with the M-1 "mac mini") to the front so, I could again control the "mac mini" with my white Apple remote control (smile...smile).

The slippery bottom on Macs are a feature. It makes it easy to slide the computer around. When I had an iMac, this made it easier to turn it around the whole computer to plug and unplug devices. This is Apple's way of allowing the computer to rotate horizontally without an unnecessary mechanism. However, small, inexpensive rubberized feet can easily modify this feature. I love my Mac Studio. Thanks for the video - good comparison. All the reviewers point out how good each model is at different tasks - video editing, developing, graphics, etc - but for me, the big takeaway from Apple Silicon, going right back to the M1, is that all of the computers can do pretty much everything - base models & early processors just take longer. I have an M1 iMac, and an M1 Pro 14" MacBook Pro; and not being a professional anything (retired, in fact), I can see myself keeping both of these for a very long time.
