Watching this made me realize how much more effective this would be compared to just holding a sword. With a mechanical arm and a linkage to eye optics electronics, the pitch and adjustability of the blades dual levers allow for better accuracy and motorized leverage at impact, similar to a spring loaded trigger device. Add in a full synthetic muscle wrap, hydraulic pistons, structural mounting, and a much more solid foundation than a wrist and its a clear winner. Even using two hands the weak point is a grip, even augmented its still a mechanical point. This thing is attached to an internal titanium skeleton. Even better they are always there when not in use and non would be the wiser.
@Subutai_Khan Жыл бұрын
But how do you parry with it? Swords offer you more control than a weapon like this ever could. Those optic electronics could be applied to a sword too only making a sword more precise. If I saw you use that spring thing I would parry it and strike you before you could recover.

@@ShinKyuubi That might not actually be it glowing, it could be an artificial highlight in the users vision ala HUD specifically so the user can actually track the wire.
@ShinKyuubi3 жыл бұрын
@@Sorain1 VERY possible, if one thing I've noticed about mono-filament/Micro-filament wires in anime is that the stuff is dang near impossible to see except for if the light catches it JUST right, ninja series use them for setting traps because of that and Walter from Hellsing can slice vampires to ribbons using his wires even before he got modified for his final fight with Alucard.
@Sorain13 жыл бұрын
@@ShinKyuubi Yeah. The ability to see it is basically a medium convention. Something that thin would be impossible to see with human eye. Which doesn't mean it can't have something stuck on it (liquids for example) that is thick enough to notice. The 'shiny visibility' isn't entirely BS though, human eyes care about movement and reflection a LOT so it might be possible to spot if it's reflective index is high enough. But it's unlikely. Having a nice visible location for your wire to help with safe use makes total sense to me. Depending on how the wire works, it could tense enough (if it's a piezoelectric meta-material for example) to help you handle it safely. Given that monowire isn't going to be cheap, it's reasonable to assume a manufacturer would include drivers for HUD's to mark it's location in real time. At least, I'd make that assumption if I was laying down specifications for such an implant.
@ShinKyuubi3 жыл бұрын
@@Sorain1 Yeah, and given the fact the player uses a fake fingernail and their off hand to hold onto said nail and part of the wire, it heating up would make little sense seeing as it would be able to cut through the user's hand. That cackle when Kyle "Definitely-Not-A-Supervillain" Hill pulls out that fake skull is beautiful. Also, in case you would like some assurance as to how the show has improved overtime in the viewers' eyes, I would like to tell you how I've described your show over the years. When you were back on Nerdist, I explained your show to friends who hadn't heard of you as "kinda like Game Theory, but prioritizes information over views." By the time you were on a separate Because Science channel, I described your show as "Game Theory-type-niche, but more broad-nerdy and more information." Now that you are your own administrator, I describe The Facility with "imagine if Bill Nye was a millenial and looked like Thor, but hotter, and that's The Facility." You are doing a good job, and you are making a difference in the world. Thank you so much for all the work you have put into this, and I can't wait to see things continue into the future.

This was really cool but I wish the blade would extend when you extended your elbow to give it more force and speed
@umbrascitor20794 жыл бұрын
I think that would hamper the performance unless you had reinforcement on your arms and core to handle the wacky inertial effects. A weapon is easy to handle if it functions as and extension of your limb, but if the balance is actively shifting it's going to throw you off. Specifically in this case, some of that force that extends the blade forward is going to be wasted on pushing your arm and body backward, and your efforts to compensate for that push will reduce the amount of power and dexterity you can put into the blow. Your least awkward means of wielding it would be to hold your arm steady and let the moving blade do all the work, but then you're most likely losing power compared to a basic swinging motion anyway.

Okay, I'm impressed. The bisected watermelon was awesome. I was slightly disappointed that the arm and head didn't suffer the same fate... and then I remembered just how strong human bones are to survive the punishment we put our skeletons through on a daily basis just walking for a few hours (I'm on my feet and moving for 37.5 hours a week at work, plus walking to and from work)... and yeah, for something like this to leave a mark on bone is pretty impressive. If it had cut right through, given the limits of 2020 materials and fabrication, that might have been legitimately terrifying. All that said, KZbin gave me this video immediately following Thea's video, and so I saw her make the blades first... and this might be the first time that the creation of a slashy-stabby thing was at least as impressive as the testing of it.

Biomimetics is the future. Imagine the structural possibilities if we could grow buildings from carbon, sunlight, and water. Imagine the medical application of a human with eyes as good as a mantis shrimp's, imagine the workhorses we could design if they just grew and grew like lizards.
