I love how in-depth this is. As someone who is familiar with Final Cut but definitely not a pro, seeing you break down your process makes me want to give your techniques a try

Thanks so much Kevin! Appreciate that. Hope you give it a try!

@@kylemccarthy This is AWESOME. I definitely would love to see more. And not just for learning but because its super cool to see you work! Maybe it would help us noobs if you could make a series out of a single project and break down every part of the process more slowly? Example: Part 3 How I use Keyframes.

This is so dope man. Is there a place you recommend even learning mixed media collage in the first place? Cuz those foundations seem essential for work like this.

What is your balance between: 1. Having a vision of the final piece and going through step-by-step to achieve it 2. Focusing on the next step and only having a vague idea of where it will end up, but trusting the process that it will be a good place
@kylemccarthy11 ай бұрын
Great questions! A lot of times with my mixed media work I try to go into with little to no vision of what the final piece will look like. This way it's way more exciting in the end if it comes out cool! Sometimes I definitely miss, but when it comes out cool its super worth it.

Kyle I've loved your short films for a fair bit now, especially on Instagram and have wondered and wished to see what goes on in your mind when you create your art. This is absolutely inspiring, thank you for sharing a snapshot of your process with us!!

Great tutorial Kyle! Very cool getting a look into the secret sauce behind your animation style. I haven’t used Final Cut Pro in a while ever since I started getting more into music production (i used to have it back when I took a few video production classes in high school & college), but I think you explain your creative process very well and make things understandable enough to where anyone can follow along without getting too lost in the technical stuff. Definitely saving this video and coming back to it for future reference!

This is like the "how to draw" a thing and is like "well you draw a circle and add details, here you have a horse" 😂 This happens to me too every time I need to explain something about my illustration process hahah

Great video! Thank you so much for making this tutorial. I’m a filmmaker but became physically disabled due to a chronic illness and production is no longer for me. However, I see mixed media and animation as a way to continue to work with visual storytelling from the comfort of my home and on my own time and terms. I’m glad I found your insta account and that you’re making these videos. I really enjoy them and they give me a bit of hope. :)

Great stuff! I sometimes struggle at mentally tracking the different layers that I’m working with and what they all do. Compound clips are a lifesaver!

Thank you Kyle! I love your work :) I have been thinking to try to make mixed media animation. I will have to look up some of the technical stuff. Also I think I will be working in an other software, but this was very helpful. I have been waiting for it ever since you announced that you are making it :)

Glad you dig it! Yeah the ideas in this video should hopefully translate to other video softwares since keyframes and mask tools are pretty universal in any video editing software.

I mean, the best workflow imo is to do the composition on Photoshop and then import it on after effect as layers, then start animating ... not that hard, Cool video tho ... but I dont have FinalCut
