Cool LZ! The nose shade is agreeably goofy looking but a crusty burnt nose would be worse. Upwind sailing requires "tacking" which I guess looks a little switchbackish. Maybe that's what he was doing. Or just cruising the coastline back and forth.

Ruh roh! Was that water coming out the spark plug hole in that last shot? SALT water? That would be my worst nightmare there. You have to get that motor running again QUICKLY, and spray the entire exterior with WD40 or similar water replacing stuff, preferably in a pump sprayer. Still, electrical components may be toast. I worked on outboard motors in salt water. Grew to hate the stuff. It's like boating in battery acid. Opened up more lower units with an air chisel than I care to think about. Here's a salute to the late, great Dirty Bird. I miss her.

Question: Is it better to do kiting training on a smaller kiting wing or the wing you intend to fly with?
@vmlinuxz5 жыл бұрын
Use your flying wing unless the gusts are too high. A small kiting wing is great for rowdy scenarios, but kiting your flying wing will let you experience the exact speed and way your wing will react in the air. It will create some wear on your wing, but at least when you are first learning it is VERY useful.
@kyleoglee5 жыл бұрын
Smaller in wind until you have control, then switch to full size is the safest way to learn.

Kyle, how about a status report on the Zeno. You've had it awhile now. You were concerned about it maybe trying to kill you when you first bought it, but now you've had the chance to compare personal experience with the stories you depended on then. How has your experience with the Zeno changed your preconceptions? What highlights and gotchas can you tell about it? Exactly what does that beast do in turbulence and how have you controlled it? You still fly it, so it must be overwhelmingly good. Inquiring minds want to know! And I'm looking forward to finding out if that water coming out of the spark plug hole is salty!

@kyleoglee4 жыл бұрын
I guess it may depend upon the state, but Arkansas has two that have fly ins, and I know two in Louisiana that are friendly to it. But no, definitely not illegal.
@thegardenfarmer5 жыл бұрын
So, question for you Kyle. I'm unsure about launch locations dealing with state parks specifically. Not public community parks. I know we, ppg pilots, can launch from public parks...but I have been wary and unsure about "state parks" labeled as such. I live in Ohio and we have a park system here called, the metro parks, and it's a state park. My confusion is with the whole national and state park thing. I know that community public parks we dont need to get permission to fly since its public and as long as the charts don't show any notams or any restrictions...and the surrounding community has no complains... we are totally in the right to be able to launch and land that zone. But what about state parks... I see you flying at a state park...and the labeling for, The Point, on the charts is pretty similar to the metro park labeling...doesnt show anything at all. I've always thought that I am totally able to launch and land from the local state park near me...I have just never pressed my luck since I wasnt sure. And far 103 is so vague...so that's not really to helpful lol, but then again in that vagueness might be where my answer is.
@kyleoglee5 жыл бұрын
It's likely regulated "per park" can't speak for all of them, but I have flown at many in Arkansas Oklahoma and Louisiana
@thegardenfarmer5 жыл бұрын
@@kyleoglee kinda what I figured. I'm going to just talk with the liaison for the park that deals with the free flight pilots at Edgewater, lake erie(edgewater is owned by the metro parks)...see what he says about the site I'm eyeballing. Thanks for the input Kyle, appreciate it
