In a previous life, I used to frequent a pilot hang out bar called the "Jet Lag Club" in Narita Japan when on layovers there. They always ran an endless video loop of military and notable crash footage on several big screen TVs. Nestled in there somewhere was a navy carrier crash video I'd seen several times, of an incident/accident where a guy coming aboard, lands hard & short and breaks his F-8 Crusader in half upon landing. The forward section of the airplane including the cockpit and canopy section remains relatively intact and slides to a screeching halt against the base of the conning tower, while the engine and most of the wings are left burning on the fantail... The pilot does just as he is trained...opens the canopy (apparently with some sort of hydraulic accumulator pressure that survived the crash), next before extracting himself from the wreckage!!!! he removes his helmet and clips it to a lanyard, securing it to the canopy rail...just like he had been in the habit of doing after a "normal" landing his entire career.

Kyle O!!! Man, what timing. I finally got my first flight back at home here in NH. Took me year to get my act together. Took me some tries to get off the ground, but it came together and had a great flight! Couldn’t have done it without ya!

you seem like a real down to earth kind of man, Kyle'O. I wish I coulda met you in person when you came to the San Luis Pass (Galveston TX) with my friends at Houston PPG. Maybe someday we will meet. The first vlog I saw of you was where you talked about being HS dropout then decided to go to college and become a pharmacist. That my friend is pure stubborn perseverance. If only folks knew how much work/study that takes, they too would be sorta impressed. Thanks for sharing, Kyle'O

Had my first motor out yesterday. I landed next to a road, in a field. I tripped in the tall grass and went to my hands and knees. I stood up and laughed as it was the first time I have fallen on a landing. Thanks Kyle for teaching me my exceptional bailout game! I walked away with no damages to myself or my gear. Turns out the fuel line in the tank was junk and it wouldn't get the last 4L of fuel from the bottom of the tank. A new line and in-tank filter installed and I'm back in the air! Blue skies brother 🤙

@Kyle O'Glee, the OG throttle (any brand really), will vary your motors rpms when you twist the throttle. AKA, palms up vs palms down. Check it out when your paramotor is grounded and watch how rotating your throttle hand from palm facing the ground to palm facing the sky and watch how the cable twists at the connection point on the carburetor. These movements look tiny, but they can make your RPMs vary some. I actually use this to my advantage to make tiny adjustments to the amount of thrust when I'm just cruising along. I like to park my brakes, set cruise control, and watch the scenery and rest my arms.

Man I really like your channel. Please elaborate on the nature of actively flying the wing as the living breathing entity that it is. I am a beginner, currently in P1/P2 school, I get it that real time slight fluctuations in parts of the wing, communicate both how it's oriented and what it's about to do - & what you want to do about it. I want to learn more about that and you have a good stream of consciousness way of relating how to fly the wing and feel what it's doing. Meanwhile I'm working through your vids thanks for your support of the sport!

I wish I had the option to practice every day or every other day. I often go months between flights, and I know that puts me on the spectrum of most dangerous pilots: low time, with looonnnggg breaks between practice sessions, so developing that muscle memory and ability to make snap, good decisions is greatly hindered. Best I can do to help compensate is a lengthy pre-flight review and inspection process each time I do get the chance to go fly. It's a shame and not the quickest or easiest path towards safe proficiency, but it is what it is for the foreseeable future.

I am in the same position. I found (after a crash due to no stupid action but inexperience) that rather than just go for a flight when I have the chance, I'd use that time to launch and land, launch and land. Man, your progression goes a lot quicker that way. You can tweak whatever you weren't happy with on the next attempt instead of almost starting over weeks later. Just my 2 cents. I also had a motor out once, thanks to the lessons of Kyle that was a total non-event. Just landed.

@Laurens Bloem Due to an old knee injury, I can walk all day long (and literally do so, being an archaeologist), but my knee can't take running, even without a motor on my back. So I trained on wheels and today fly a weigh-shift trike. I learned early on that my ability to do touch-n-go's, with a long taxi before taking off again, were HUGE in my learning progression... and they are disgustingly and surprisingly fun to do. When I have a long break between flights, that first evening I go up, I'll typically spend the first 30 minutes to an hour just doing touch-n-go's. It really dials back in that feel of the wing quickly. Haven't had a motor out yet, but I usually kill the motor before my last landing of the evening to keep my power-off landing skills sharp too for when a real motor out happens to me.

Ha.. forgetting to prime is something I do about every other time I usually remember just after I've stood up with the harness. Mornings are not my thing either but they sure do make for sweet flying. There are some sports where starting off with inferior equipment will usually result in a bad time. I don't fly really often, maybe even less than once a week. If I've not flown for a while my first flight is circuits only - go arounds typically. If I've not flown for a long while I hold off for an afternoon of kiting first.

I just watched some videos of people flying over Lake Tahoe. It looked like an awesome flight, but during 90% of that flight, an engine-out would have meant landing at the top of a pine tree. #pilotMindset

BTW, you talk about equipment, in this vlog, is there a website, place, anything on new vs used, and where to get used equipment. If so, advise please... How about what should one be looking into so we dont have to buy the right stuff the second time!!! Yes, ones weight and physical condition, (knees & hips), age, male vs female, this kinda crap... Its enough to pay $15k once, but to find out its, not right for me,,, then $30k becomes why im not in the game...

Hey Kyle, any particular reason you have the harness mounted on that lower cross bar? I've never seen one mounted like that on a maverick.

It holds the unit an inch higher on my back. I modified the harness to reach there.
@dashvortex
@dashvortex Жыл бұрын
@@kyleoglee interesting, what's the purpose behind modifying it that way? Higher CG, thrust point, just a better fit? I'm not very tall so my arms would probably be hanging from the swing arms if I tried that on mine lol.

You're breaking my heart I never once saw you put out any disrespectful view of the public ever. Your videos are a certain style that's all and it's class. Some people on here are putting on videos where they are landing on another guy's boat with a swinging propeller on a paramotor.

I love bad content, its real. When I clip in, I usually have a plan. As soon as I leave the ground my plan I then fades. I call it seagull mode, I just go and do whatever. I hope my random flying brian never tries to land on telephone wires with the other birds. Am I one of those bad Indians/pilots?
