Kylie is so underrated in the US, she released her first single in Australia in 1987 - to be still having # 1 albums & sold out tours over 35 years later - it takes a true legend to do that. People underestimate Kylie vocally, but if you ever experience her live, she knocks it out of the park. She is the perfect popstar, a trail blazer in the industry, Madonna is the queen of pop but Kylie is the princess - no one else comes close!

If you watch her interview with Michael Parkinson from 2002 (on youtube) she says near the beginning how it was a conscious choice not to focus on breaking America. It would take at least a year living in the States to gain traction and I think she was happier consolidating her success in the rest of the world. That being said, it's still a shame she didn't break the US.

It's always so weird to hear people pondering whether they think Kylie can sing or not. I think everyone's ears have been deadened by the belter's, believing only belter's can sing. Go and take a listen to Billie Holiday or Blossom Dearie, and Kylie belongs in that bracket. A voice that is all her own, sweet & delicate in tone but that slides up and down notes with such flair. Kylie's one of best 💗

You should find a live version of her song Your Disco Needs You! It's a disco song that showcases her abilities nicely. America has unfairly slept on Kylie. Her catalogue is worth the deep dive. I've been lucky enough to see several of her shows in Europe. She is a fantastic performer and so charismatic on stage. You really feel the love at a Kylie show! Wish I didn't always have to travel to see her, but it was always worth it. Her Les Folies (Aphrodite Live) show is a masterpiece both visually and musically. She also puts on a great show visually, what more could you really ask for. I've always had alot of respect for Kylie, she's proven herself very versatile in all styles of music over the years, her voice is so unique that it can work with pretty much any style of music. So Kylie's power is in her UPPER register. She's a real soprano however in pop music the lower to mid register is where the audience is happiest and hers is quite lovely but not where her KapOW hits. Kylie can SING! When she first released music she was a star of Neighbours (an Aussie soap opera) that was huge in the UK and Australia. Her first songs were very pop, and I think people didn’t realise how good she actually is. She is a HUGE gay icon, and fully embraced that and her gay fans. She performed at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in the 90’s and 00’s. She’s one of those stars where people don’t even use her last name and you know who they are talking about. Kylie Jenner tried to trademark “Kylie” and she wasn’t able to in Australia.

Seriously Kylie deserves kudos for what she does she can sing there is no question but it is not her greatest strength For me its always the catchy vibe of her songs and her performance the woman can put on a show and I dont think there is enough value put to that part of the package of being a singer....if you dont have that part you wont last and she has proven to be master singer and performer if she was relying on just her vocals she wouldnt have the career she has had theres no denying the girl has a nose for a hit song. There are many singers that can only dream of having the success that Kylie has had....she has shown she is the full package.

Confide In Me was Kylie gaining more artistic freedom 1994 after ditching Stock Aitken Waterman British hit makers a few years before . Number 1 on charts in Australia. Kylie is Australia’s most successful Australian born artist selling over 80 million records worldwide , pretty great achievement for an artist that has only 2 American hit singles on billboard top 10 Locomotion in 1988 and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head in 2001 . Must listen Kylie songs * All The Lovers * Spinning Around *Slow * 2 Hearts * Your Disco Needs You ( live from the Royal Albert Hall ) * Stop Me From Falling * Say Something * Flower ( Emotional ballad written by Kylie a song to her unborn child apparently after finding out she maybe unable to be a mother after her breast cancer scare ) Where The Wild Roses Grow ( with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds ) Plus singing Shout with John Farnham live at Crown Casino or Tour Of Duty .

She did get a bad wrap from the beginning in Australia, its seem to happen when artists go into music after being a TV soapy star beforehand. It happened with Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Natalie Imbruglia, Delta Goodrem, Tammin Sursok. Kylie is great and is a bit of a disco queen also, but is a performer all her concerts are a full performance with each song. This song was the first of her pop songs that grabbed me. Back in the early days, her voice did not have this much power. She trained hard to get where she is and I totally respect that. I think it's probably why she gets the hate, because other singers who have obvious talent from the beginning rarely get the opportunities that she did. She was a very popular soap actress before singing. And frankly, because she's a hot Aussie girl she got amazing mentors in the form of her lover Micheal Hutchens of INXS and Nick Cave (don't know if they were ever lovers but they are certainly friends).
