Shout was a huge hit for Australia's first 'king of rock & roll', Johnny O'Keefe. It has special significance for Australian singers. My mother interviewed JOK in the 60s when she was a young journalist. She interviewed Helen Reddy (I Am Woman) before she made it in the US, too 😊 Helen was actually thinking of quitting showbiz at the time because she was frustrated by the local Australian scene. Imagine a world without I Am Woman!

Kylie see’s John as a mentor plus John been devoted husband and family man since the early 70’s . He is one Australian rock / pop singer that has been scandal free . John Farnham is so professional has chemistry with anybody he sings with . The first song I Should Be So Lucky is stripped back rearranged version of second Australian first UK single that was a number 1 hit in both countries . This was recorded in the late 90’s for Melbourne’s Crown Casino opening . Around the same time Kylie borrowed the Farnham Band for a national tour , The Intimate & Live Tour that got great reviews. Plus this is Kylie a few years before her worldwide smash hit Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. The second song Shout yes a Isley Brothers classic but in Australia it was massive hit in the late 50’s for Australian rock n roll pioneer the late Johnny O’Keefe , the song after this at this concert was John Farnham paying tribute to Johnny O’Keefe .

I love that John, who is obviously known for his huge voice, did the “little bit softer now” part, and Kylie, who is known for her delicate tone, did the “little bit louder” part. Making light of their differences rather than trying to compete with each other is so Australian. They make me proud!

Yeah it was a great concert under the circumstances. But shamefully we helped Timor-Leste gain independence so our government and mining companies rip off the East Timorese for their resources . Thinking the some of artists may have different perspectives on their appearance at the Tour Of Duty since Timor -Leste gained independence and Australia has taken full advantage of it with nothing in return to local sovereignty of Timor - Leste

I only watched that KZbin - East Timor concert again last week. That wonderful audience of our ADF loved John & the other singers in that jungle. What they were missing in high tech audio equipment they more than compensated for with exuberance & joy, singing along to their songs from home in their "working" jungle greens. They all sang along and that was a fine community service for our servicemen and women led by our fabulous entertainers.

That was a heavily reworked version of I Should be so Lucky! Kylie is the pop princess here in Oz. Her range may not be incredible but her tone is quite unique and very recognisable. I’ve never understood why she didn’t break into the US market. She had the songs, the dance moves and she is so beautiful…I guess it’s up to Americans to seek her out. She’s worth the effort. John also doing a great job of not trying to outdo his guest here. A proper professional.

Kylie has a 2 hit wonder on American billboard charts within the top 10 Locomotion was number 3 and Can’t Get You Out Of My Head was number 7 the only country where it charted and didn’t peak at number number 1 . On the other hand on the USA Dance Charts Kylie has been really successful out 24 placements on the the USA dance charts with the top 50 10 are number 1 . Kylie has also got a Grammy award so there is a following in USA .

This song Shout has been around a long time. In Australia, it was Johnny O'Keeffe that made it famous here. That was a re-work on some of kylie's hits in a different style than the originals, Very nicely done. I believe this was the opening of a casino, and John went back-stage to bring Ray Charles on stage, then they worked well together.

In Australia the only person that made the song Shout famous was Johnny O’Keefe. Kylie tried out to be a regular singer on Young Talent Time and only her little sister Danni was good enough. Kylie later started acting in one of soaps called Neighbours. Well some would call it acting. England is in love with both of our soaps. So Kylie and Jason Donavan quickly moved there while they were really popular. Jason got into either drugs or alcohol and it took him a long time to come back but he did. Kylie became a very famous singer over there but mostly her videos were based on wearing little and how she sang. Her voice is pretty but not strong. We call her the singing Budgie because she is tiny. That sounds like I don’t like her and I do. Now she is learning to be who she is and that is very much like this song. I think she tried hard to be her sister and missed her own talents. I don’t know what happened to Danni but I don’t read magazines. I know there is a picture of Danni in my hair salon showing a new hair product. You should watch John and Ray Charles. Ray was getting old and John loves him as much as I always have. John took such great care of him on stage. Ray changed what they rehearsed without telling John but John adapts very fast. John also made sure the audience knew how special Ray Charles was. He was my first crush because my Nana had his music. I had never seen a picture of him, didn’t know what colour he was but that would not have changed anything. I was raised to know we are all the same. I raised children that, looked like him and my baby is Korean/ Australian. It was his voice and the kindness I felt in him. I could always feel how someone was by listening to them. I loved and respected Ray Charles forever. When I finally saw him on TV in my early teens I loved him all over again. I told my parents I was going to marry that man. I know John and I could see he was trying to keep Ray on track but so gently and he just fitted in anywhere he could. Then I think John asked for a bloody chair because bending over that little piano or organ to sing was too hard. If you know what to look for you can see what John did to help in that concert. There were a lot of famous people on that stage besides Kylie. I think Anthony Warlow was there but the stage basically belong to John and Ray Charles. Everyone gets surprised that Celine Dion came here to sing and she called John on stage. I think he was 70, maybe 69 but he was emotional that she was singing his hit song and she told him she had been his number one fan for years. Same when Richard Marx said John had the best voice of anyone alive today anywhere. Then a couple of years later he walked on stage and played the piano for John. I love Richard Marx but John was his usual self. He never understood how famous people knew him and loved him. We all did and he is still loved. Thank you. No, they didn’t date. Kylie arrived after John married Jilly, the bride. John has chemistry with everyone. He had to tone his voice down for Kylie singing Shout.

I'm not a fan of Kylie at all (don't get me started!); but John nailed his performance, as always. He can make any song, any genre, magical & fun & a joy to listen to. 😊

John sounded great. Kylie sounded absolutely mediocre. I feel as though most singers I hear have a better voice than Kylie 😂

Well clearly she’s doing something right; 35 year career, 80 million albums, number 1 albums in 5 decades, 12 sellout global tours…. Why is it never enough to just not like someone without trying to belittle their very worth as a fellow human?

@@MarthaMansbridge yep. She’s super famous. Doesn’t change how I feel about her voice. Sounded weak and vanilla to me. I don’t need to like everyone’s voice. It’s certainly not ‘belittling their very worth’. Surely her worth resides in something far more important than her vocal abilities. Why when someone doesn’t like something do you feel the need to suggest they’re attacking them?

@@James-lw3gi Kylie knows her vocal limits . She aren’t no Mariah Carey and she knows it . Yes this song is pushing on her vocals range but it’s deliberate John actually took the low verses . But this clip is 24 years ago Kylie has come along way vocally and musically since then .
