What an excellent video! I had creamy-ivory tiles in a bathroom once. I tried painting the walls with blue green grays, and it made the tiles more yellow the darker the blue green gray colors became. I opted to refinish the tiles white so I could have my cool colors. Wish I had this video available several years back. Would have saved money from multiple paint jobs.

I have cream cabinets and doors and baseboards. (Dunn Edwards-Pearl) and… my sea salt Benjamine more (grayish) looks amazing as walls. The two colors together are so pretty, fresh, and makes a beautiful home!

SW Creamy is on all my walls and trim and ceilings- I have a small home and 8ft ceilings. I also have Creamy on all my kitchen and bath cabinets. My countertops and backsplash in my kitchen are a porcelain called Angora and a dark brown wood portable island in the center. I use blues and greens with touches of terracotta throughout my home and metal finishes range from aged rubbed bronze cabinet pulls, chrome kitchen faucet, black appliances (it’s what we had before remodeling the kitchen and there are in excellent condition), then some black metal and brass lamps and copper. I have walnut side tables, antique oak dining table and buffet, mahogany night stands and all of it does not clash with the Creamy walls.

Omg!I have been looking for a paint color with your type of decor... I have low lighting and either color shows up as white or gray... I tried, alabaster (grayish on my walls ) Anteler Velvet white on my walls, Malabar white on my walls, Dhurrie Beige looks like concrete, Balanced Beige is almost white ... I can't get a break. Blonde by SW is gorgeous in my entry way.... But, now I'm just going to think about a creamy yellow st those point 😢

Hi, TY so much for this video! I followed your suggestion and determined that the cabinets are close to BM Eggshell (LRV 88.9) in color, and the closer to the LRV of BM Spanish Cream (LRV 78.18). We painted the walls and bead board SW Shiitake (LRV 51) and the combination is fabulous! Also following your info on Kelvins to reduce yellow and the kitchen is looking great. We painted most of the house SW Natural Tan and it's lovely - with a SW accent wall of Naval in the dining room and it's all stunning. Thank you!

I don't have cream cabinets, but I still watched because I find it interesting lol. Recently I've been seeing a lot of white walls with darker cabinets and trim (reverse of what's been used for years), although they are usually some kind of greige. I think white walls could work with cream with the right decor.

Kylie, this is a great review of these two colors! I have Antique White trim throughout the house and on all cabinets and plantation shutters. Looking to update the kitchen and considering using Creamy on the cabinets. Would they blend, or would I be unhappy with trim and cabinets not matching? Or could I reduce the AW by say, 50% to reduce some of the yellow (to better blend with a light countertops).

This is my exact predicament. House full of shutters from 1991…not sure of color possibly looks like antique white or cottage white (looks of brown yellow). I so want to have a some rooms in a calm soft white (not stark cold white but more modern white). I have thought about that I really need to paint all shutters doors and trim to give the house the modern uplift it needs. This makes me think its time. But now what are some flexible white color options for doors, trim and shutters? Current walls in house Gossameir Veil & Neutral Ground. But Kitchen cabinets were painted in 2005 I believe Dunn Edwards White Crest.

We are building a house and have so many beautiful and unique antique doors, all different, all different colors, etc. Some from 1800's and dark, other's from a french embassy and dingy white. Even some with several colors of paint flaking off and showing through. I don't want to touch them to make anything look pristine so when i'm trying to pick paint for walls and trim, I feel like I need dingy or dirty white (but not white) and not really color. I've tried many dingy neutral tones, some too gray, too blue, too green, too pink. I've settled on BM Natural Cream and am thinking of painting my trim the same color (with satin sheen) so that the doors themselves are the only thing accented. I may paint my cabinets the same color now that I heard your video. Thanks for the tip.

Believe it or not, Neutral Ground would be the least of your concerns, as the backsplash and countertop call almost ALL of the cabinet color shots! In general, I do like SW Pure White!

Thank you so much for this video!! I am going thorough this dilemma now. I found that the colors with an LRV lower than 70 were looking dingy against a lighter wall color, but I was not painting my cabinets white! Most of the colors you mentioned were on my list. It is great to see things side by side. Conclusion is that I am going with a off-white with an LRV in the high 70s. Decided that whatever I paint my cabinets I will also paint my kitchen walls, in a eggshell finish vs. a satin for cabinets. My finalists are Soft Chamois, White Tie, which is a dupe for Creamy, and a custom color Julie Blanner posted for her kitchen cabinets that I love. I'm going with the creamy and gray-green color scheme that is so popular now. Love this combo!

@@pjames8712 Hi, I ended up using BM Mascarpone for the walls (eggshell), cabinets (satin) and trim (semi-gloss); and Farrow & Ball's Mizzle (modern eggshell) for the island. I did end up adding a skylight to bring more light into the kitchen. None of the colors I referenced above worked in my kitchen. I also found the Banner custom color to be too bland. I have a north facing kitchen and any paint with too much gray in it just was not working in my kitchen. Mascarpone turned out clean, crisp and just the right amount of creamy color without presenting too yellow. I used Honey Bronze hardware. It turned out beautiful in my north-facing windowless kitchen.

HELP! For a kitchen that doesn't have much natural light, would you recommend SW Alabaster or SW Pure White? I am so confused even with your wonderful videos! The alabaster seems a bit yellowish in the kitchen and the pure white seems a little too white. But changes constantly depending on lighting. Which we don't have accurate lighting yet because we will be adding a small window in the kitchen later and double doors in the dining area attached to the kitchen. But the cabinets have to be done now for various reasons. I really wanted a soft white/slight cream cabinet. I do NOT like stark white, but don't want it dingy looking. The walls will be SW Agreeable Gray. The trim and pantry doors is a basic/standard white.

Hey! I would 100% stick with Chantilly Lace cabinets. If you shift to a new white, it will look murky or yellow compared to the clean look of Chantilly Lace!

My trim is Believable Buff SW 6120. Cabinets are hickory stained Alder wood. Going to re-paint the cabs trying to avoid painting trim. But BB is pretty yellow. Hi Kylie, perfect timing! I'm 99% sure I'm going with Natural Beige throughout the house (built in 1977) we just bought, with a Naval accent wall in the dining room. The kitchen cabinets are cream (warm, yellow-ish) and can't be painted per the cabinet company and the painter. 2 glass-front cabinets have red beadboard in the back and there is some beadboard (also red) leading into the kitchen. I'm thinking of Naval for the beadboard. There is almost no wall space in the kitchen - just a soffit. Lots of tile backsplash, big white squares (!) that Ill change. So what do you think of Naval near cream cabinets? TY!! I've been binging your paint reviews for days!

I'm happy with it, but now I'm ready to paint my walls and crown molding/ base boards.I have cream cabinets. Hey Luke, you've got it, I would stick with Westhighland White. HOWEVER, you don't have to do oil these days as the latex paints are made quite well. Many of them are alkyd emulsions, so you get the benefits of oil without the smell/drying time! If you already HAVE oil on your trim, I would recommend a good sand, high adhesion primer and then fresh paint :)

I would also like to if a green color could work on walls if cabinets are ivory or light cream. My trim; baseboards, doors and ceilings are typical builder painted white. I don’t want creamy trim! I want to keep that bright white so my dark brown hardwood floors pop. Plus, I just can’t afford to paint the walls and cabinets and doors! I wish my cabinets weren’t cream/ivory!! But they are. 😑. This open concept fam rm-kitchen painting project is overwhelming and I’m just becoming stressed & depressed! To add to this dilemma, is that I had the interior wall of the bookcase and glass cabinet section painted to match the cool aqua i had painter do the walls 13 years ago. I chose that color bc I like it. But mostly bc it was hot humid August and I wanted the home to ‘feel’ cooler. I succeeded. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the decorating knowledge or even common sense, to realize it would also feel cool is cold gray fall & wintertime. 😳😑. This is why I have been wanting to repaint and achieve a cozy, fresh, cheerful cohesive home, while also having the flexibility to change out pillows, throws and other decor, especially seasonally. And a white canvas (walls, etc) is the easiest way to accomplish this. But bc of these cream/ivory cabinets I don’t think I’m going to be able to get my dream interior.😑 I wish I could attach photos to show my current colors in order to get feedback and advice.

Ugghhhh here's the dilemma. The house is 1992 built and the newer cabinets are the Antique Cream. The problem is no WINDOWS or daylight is within the area, so so very dark. I do not want to go dark because no daylight is in the small kitchen area. What will Balboa Mist look like, as I am having the LR that color. TRYING to get the house to be lighter not darker, not a fan of cabinet color but they were here. WHAT CAN I DO? Your colors presented are great but TBH they are too dark for the kitchen. HELPPPP

GOOD question! So, it's not that it looks BAD, but it looks backwards. With a combo like this, 'normally' the cabinets would be the warm white and the walls would be the cream colour. What happens is that the lighter look of the walls makes the cabinets look STRONGER or more cream/yellow in comparison. If you're okay with this, you're good, but I've found that for most of my E-Design clients, that's the OPPOSITE of what they're hoping for :). In this situation, my BEST BEST advice is to paint the walls the SAME colour as the cabinets or maaaaaybe 25% lighter (but you have to be darn careful). :)

@@KylieMInteriorsPaint I get it, that makes sense if that’s what most clients are asking for. For anyone that is wondering how it would look the opposite way, a good example I’ve found is Shea McGee’s (of Studio McGee) own kitchen. She has Creamy on her cabinets and Swiss coffee at 75% on her walls. It’s beautiful but she does have a lot of natural light though, so it’s definitely something you’d have to test out in your own space before jumping on board the creamy cabinet train. It does look gorgeous in her space.

Wellll, sometimes they sell out VERY fast - like seconds. Now, it's ABSOLUTELY best if you can grab one, so try tomorrow morning (remember, this is 8am PST). If you can't get one, I can try to fit you in, depending on the package you'd like, but the process isn't as streamlined ;). Let me know how it goes!

SAMPLIZE and Sherwin Williams have painted decals that you can purchase. They are so much easier than searching real paint everywhere and you can move them all over.

I just ordered 2 colors from Samplize and it was $16 with shipping. I would rather have the sample quarts but SW doesn’t offer them now. I’m told due to a raw material shortage.

@@LULC0759 the decals are better as you can move them around in the room and you don’t have to worry about actually painting. I had been going to Lowes (since SW stopped the sample pots) and having them color match for me. The sample pot there was almost $7 I believe and I have heard they aren’t always as accurate. The last color I had matched through them looks nothing like the sample. Could’ve just been a mistake on the part of the person mixing but I need accuracy.

@@JSCDR I still prefer the paint sample pots ….we have a huge discount at SW as we’re contractors. But it’s a mute point at SW. they don’t have them. But Color matching at another manufacturer is probably not going to be accurate.

@@LULC0759 SW just sold me a quart, at a discount, due to this issue. It was $18 (originally $38), but it is paint I can use elsewhere, whereas the samplize is useless once you have used it to determine if it is a paint color you want to use.

Cool color's are not ever-lasting, trend-wise. Warm tones are the most natural for our eyes, and soothe our soul. Why oh why anyone wants cool colors - I just cannot understand!!!

Yes, people found out during Covid lockdown cool colors weren’t so cool. The sensory deprivation drove them crazy. Battleship and prison gray is not cool. Lol.

Kylie I need to decide my living room/ kitchen color tomo. I swatched white dove on a wall which looked too yellow/creamy (in afternoon north facing room)and pure white which is too white for me. Is there a color in between these 2 that gives me a little bit more warmth without without being too yellow or too white. Also my wood stain in natural/clear oak stain with white lighten cabinets. Pls pls pls help, I don’t have time!

Thanks for this video it was so helpful! i have creamy trims everywhere and want a white kitchen. This confirms all cabinets to be painted creamy . How do i go about choosing a blueish colour for my kitchen island. Can you recommend a colour? I am so nervous I choose a wrong blue and have so many samples already.
