Kyosho Mad Van VE Brushless FA505B Drive Cup Fitting. Wheel Shaft Set for FAZER Mk2 FZ02
Hi all
You may have seen in the review video that I had a problem with the dog bone popping out and slightly mangling the drive cup on my Mad Van.
Well fitting the new one was slightly more difficult than I'd imagined so I thought that it was worth doing a video to show how I did it.
It does seem to be a potential weak point of this RC and the upgrade part which is the Universal Swing Shaft set is not only expensive but also out of stock!
Hope this helps someone out.
Many thanks for watching :-)

I’m not sure what surprises me the most , the fact that it was a difficult fix or the fact you were able to find Kyosho parts 😂. Great video Pete

before buying the mad van ve, had i stopped and thought about it for a minute i probably would have figured out ahead of time what we've all learned after buying it, putting an over powered brushless motor and big offroad tires on the same street car chassis and drive chain that was made to run little skinny street tires on the road was going to be a problem. You an tell kyosho knew it by the way they listed all the upgrade parts we were going to break in the manual that came with the mad van. I don't bash my cars, i just run them on an dirt oval and still it sheared the teeth of the front ring gear halfway through the second pack i ran in my mad van, and so far there hasn't been a single time that the mad van hasn't shut off on thermal from over heating, i tried going to smaller pinions but with the motor mount design i could only drop it 1 tooth, for high speed track conditions the pinion needs to go down 17 or 18 tooth, that would probably help it stop tearing up wheel shaft cups and out drives. Kyosho mad van ve, $300 to buy it and another $300 or more to upgrade it from semi toy grade to hobby grade................

Hi there. I have since sold this because basically although I enjoyed driving it, I already had various Arrma 3s trucks which are more reliable. I didn't have all the issues that you are talking about but the drive cup thing was certainly an issue and the upgrade part wasn't cheap. This wasn't half as bad as the FTX Bugsta I had although that was a lot cheaper. I did have a decent amount of fun with this but like I say I have others that can do it more reliably. Many thanks for your detailed feedback. Much appreciated 😁👍

Thank you very much for the video, really much appreciated! I have the same problem, but with my rear diff outdrive cup. I have done a diff upgrade on both Diffs with the parts needed and filled them each with 3000 weight oil (2000-3000 as mentioned in the manual). After two Lipos today the cup failed, did nothing else like speed runs and some wheelies on very short grass. Will replace the outdrives now with the metal outdrives (FAW207). I hope that fixes the problem and I also hope the problem does not get over to the drive cups on the wheels.... Edit: Maybe I will also put 2000 weight oil in when I rebuild the Diffs with the new outdrives. Maybe the oil stresses the drive train to much, haven't tried the standard out of the box Diffs with grease inside.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. A few people have been asking about diff oil. I must say that I haven't actually looked inside yet. I've been driving this today and it was handling great with the stock setup. I wouldn't think that thicker diff oil would cause a problem. Is it 3000cst or 3000wt oil? 3000cst isn't very thick for a diff really. I use 20,000cst in the Arrma 3s cars. Anyway, thanks for the info. Hopefully not too many problems to come with these trucks. I was really enjoying driving it today :-)

@@PeteWylieRC Did you found out what causes the round cups you did fix in your video?
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 3 жыл бұрын
@@TR2NLG Do you mean what caused the cups to get mangled? Just the drive shaft coming partly out of the cup in a bad landing. I'm wondering if putting an O ring or a circle of foam in the cup at the gearbox end would keep the dogbone drive shaft pushed firmly into the cup at the wheel end. There isn't really much play in it but I will have a look.

Hi Pete, hope you’re keeping well. great video of how to change those front drive cups. Certainly have identified a design weak spot on that model. Have you contacted Kyosho? They might be generous enough to provide those upgrade UJ’s as a gesture of goodwill, especially as you’ve identified a design floor? Might be worth a try? Great tenacity with those bearings, an oversized socket could also have helped. Take care 😆😉👌

Hiya John. I don't think I would hold my breath for a freebie from Kyosho. Might be worth a try but I think they'll say it's wear and tear. Oh yes a socket spanner would have been good. @@PeteWylieRC Ahh-haa, so the Mad Van is plastic and the Javelin, Ultima and Bug are metal...hmm, interesting information but you would have thought that Kyosho would of made them in metal for such an iconic vehicle unless they were thinking of weight saving and power. @@cw-01creations46 I think that it is to make the Mad Van less expensive. Those buggy kits are nearly the same price as this but they are only 2WD and without electronics.
