as far as I know all sea products are halal, the haram part is when the sea-food dish contains pork products, haram meat products, or alcohol, which is very possible in Japan that's why we ask or search before eating it. The Qur'an and prophet's hadith on sea food: أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ الْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُ" سورة المائدة: 96" Surat Alma'ida "هو الطَّهورُ ماؤُه، الحِلُّ مَيتتُه" “Its water is pure and its dead are halal.” - the Prophet Muhammad pbuh hadith narrated by Abu Huraira I'm not an expert and I recommend you do your own research الله أعلم
