Kyrie left Boston BECAUSE they did so well in the playoffs without him and Heyward. Those playoffs meant that Kyrie would never be seen as the BIG STAR of this rapidly rising team. At that point he was too immature and all he wanted was to be THE man on a team that won the trophy (the same reason he left Cleveland). Maybe in that following year he started to mature - was willing to play with KD, but by then he'd already mentally burned his bridges with his teammates. Seems like he's matured now - but he burned bridges throughout his NBA career.

I live in Massachusetts and I'm a die hard Celtics fan. I was really excited that Kyrie was traded here as he is a generational talent. The way he left and acted before and after leaving will forever make him hated in Boston. I, however don't hate him and I still fully respect his skill and commitment to the game. I do feel like the Boston fans go too far at times with the hatred of Kyrie, but we want to win and Kyrie did not leave gracefully. Celtics fans celebrate nearly all past Celtics players. We didn't get mad at Al Horford for leaving for a better payday. We embraced him when he came back. We even still embrace Ray Allen. Kyrie was like an ultimate betrayal made worse by his gaslighting, distasteful antics, and slander.
