Ok, for all those saying they can imagine thousands of these arrows flying durring a battle making this noise ...that never happened. This type of arrow is called the Kabura-ya which is a traditional whistling arrowhead. These type of arrow heads were used in traditional ceremonies or as a signaling tool for allies. They are useless as a weapon of war... would be cool to hear a thousand of them though :)
@amd7947 Жыл бұрын
It has happened before but probably not this type of arrows. Search it up, it has been used in combat before hence why people say it would be scary listening to a thousand of them flying to you. They're also not useless, they plant fear into the enemy and is used as a psychological weapon in warfare

They don't clap, japanese people are very cultured... They are supposed to watch with utmost concentration and admire in silence, if you can't tell this was between rounds, she had to fire another arrow after that, once she was done, she would bow and spectators would nod in appreciation... Clapping is primitive almost barbaric for the japanese.

This must be Kaburaya (turnip-shaped arrow), an arrow with a whistle attached. It is already in use in the 5th century in Japan to signal to enemies and allies that a fight is about to begin. Some arrows of the time are storaged in the Shosoin, a storehouse at Todaiji Temple in Nara, built in 756 A.D. to preserve the temple's treasures.

I think the sound created by the releasing of the arrow from the bow is called he "Tsurene" and some might say it is a beautiful sound, in which I agree also it also fascinates me that Kyudo is actually a Martial art in Japan, and there are 8 intricate steps to be followed, from positioning yourself, to getting the arrow up until admiring your shot whether its a miss or not Japanese culture and traditions are really wonderful
@saymabagwan2999 Жыл бұрын

@@dillonfloyd1801 ignorant? I know the word means not knowledgeable of something like asian culture but you're not they just perceive bowing like a nice way to do something after an action of respect like shooting a gun in the air for whites it's also respect ya know?
@skardances83983 жыл бұрын
@@dillonfloyd1801 In Kyudo, you only clap when the archer (kyudoka is what you call an expert in kyudo) hits the middle of the board (or a bullseye in western countries). In student kyudo (school clubs kyudo) many students shout ‘Yosh’ or ‘Atari’ to cheer for the students when they manage to hit the board even if it is not in the the middle and clap when a bullseye is hit but general kyudo is very quiet as it is respectful to not disturb the archer as kyudo is different to normal archery, there are certain steps (8) you have to follow to achieve a perfect kyudo technique which includes how to stand, draw the bow, your form and releasing the arrow and kyudo practice includes moral and spiritual development. Kyudo is a sport where you empty your mind and achieve a state of nothingness in order to have a perfect shooting form so the audience not making any noise is a way to respect that as it is a form of meditation that reflects your state of mind at the time you release the arrow. As to why they kneel; as I said before kyudo is not normal archery - there are even steps for how to enter the kyudo hall correctly in your shooting order and when it is your groups turn to shoot then you stay kneeling on the ground until it is time for you to do so, each group has 5 archers (they are referred to differently based on their position), they shoot once and kneel but the next member rises once they are done drawing their bow and this continues until each member has shot four times. They then go back to sit on their chairs and so forth.
