We are thrilled to welcome Sam Hahn from L.A.B. Golf into the studio today to give us a rundown of the L.A.B. line and some insight into the broomstick madness we are seeing out on the course. The Mike gets into onto the Quintec system to test a couple of them out and see what would be his right fit.
Stay tuned for our next episode with Sam where we go even deeper on the Mezz.1 Max!

Lab owner... this video was really helpful in getting myself back in the right mindset with the putter. I had a "bryson" built armlock that was lights out when I got it and then I started struggling with face control because the lack of torque can sometimes make the head feel weightless if u try to make micro adjustments.... What Sam said about letting the putter do the work absolutely got me back on track with this putter. A few good practice sessions, went back in the bag and dropped a 26 putt round on sunday. 👍

I am loving the putter it’s turning me from a good putter to a great one. Sam’s comment that take the thumbs off the grip and let the putter take over has just been a lightbulb moment for me the lighter you grip it the better it works. Well done guys PS I’ve had the you spent so much on a putter and still miss a 3’ putt, but I feel more confident and am making more putts than ever before. Thanks Sam and LAB

recently got a LAB DF 2.1, can't stress enough what Sam said you need to give it a while to get out of the way of the putter and just let it do it's thing. After that it comes down to reading greens and rocking your shoulders. When I'm missing putts now it's down to alignment, or I'm trying to mess around with the putter and not letting it get square. My buddies laughed at first when they saw it, but after I started draining massive putts the laughing stopped real quick.

I've had the DF2.1 for about 3 years now. Basically, it's taken me 2 years just to stop trying to manipulate the putter with my hands/wrists. I thought I had a straight back/straight through stroke since I used mallet-style putters for most of my golfing life. However, I actually was making subtle twists/flicks with my hands and wrists to square the face at impact. If you do that with the LAB golf putters, you won't see the benefit of the technology. I think that is why many people initially try them and say they don't like them (as the video showed with Mike's putting). They will require you to change your putting stroke and some people will not want to go through that change, even though you will end up with a much more consistent stroke, at least for direction. Obviously, any putter still needs to allow you to dial in the distance control as well to actually make more putts. I'm a firm believer in this technology and I'm happy that I went through the struggle to change my stroke to work with my LAB putter.

I recommend new owners putt with their eyes closed for a while on the practice green. Neutral set up, then close eyes, concentrating on moving the shoulders only. When there's nothing to look or peek at, the stroke tends to fall into place faster.

A negative face rotation rate is so amazing, basically trying to stay square through impact! Maybe only toe up putter can do that ? But unlike toe up, LAB do it without shifting the CG of the putter face to the heel, so you are still encouraged to hit the middle of the face! Another benefit of LAB I feel is that it would take the variability of tempo out of place. No matter how quick your tempo is. The face stay square through impact ? I totally intrigued! Gonna have to ask the wife for another birthday present 😅

Interesting, i had a bad dose of the yips 15 or so years ago, went to a broom and it was fantastic, difficult on really long putts, but inside 20ft deadly. I had a TIA which wiped my muscle memory, so my neural pathways causing the yips were also wiped. Sean Foley says when giving a lesson, changes take time because of ingrained muscle memory, unless you’ve had a stroke as this wipes muscle memory. I now putt traditionally and it’s wonderful, if the yips ever return i know what club i would reach for. Don’t advocate having a stroke to get rid of the yips, but there’s always an upside to every negative😂

@@muzzleblast88 Since I also am side saddle or face on, I am looking dead down my line, so it is extremely easy. Broom putting tip that's a little crazy-sounding and -looking: left-handed, one-handed only putting strokes. It looks WEIRD, requires slowing the stroke tempo down to about 1/8th with a stroke that's 3x longer, challenges stabilizer and gripping muscles...and teaches you everything you need to know about how to wield a non-anchored broom, and you'll learn why it's even superior to the anchored stroke. Keep sweeping'em everyone! Great video! Sam, you're fantastic and I'm very happy to see how successful L.A.B. is. Cheers!

Mezz Max worked great for me! Developed a thumbs off grip to let it do its thing. The final piece was starting to game the tour response stripe ball. Note: if you struggle reading the line on putts, LAB will not fix it for you. I myself however wasted years looking down at various high MOI high torque putters swearing at another ball not starting on the line I had in mind just because the frigging face was open or closed. No more of that.

I put a DF.2 in the bag around 12 months ago after going for a fitting and I think I’d describe it as “I get this but I gamete quite got it just yet” as opposed to love at first sight. Don’t get me wrong, in the fitting process the numbers spoke for themselves but out on the course after delivery, I wasn’t quite getting it right particularly pace wise (that’s why a lot of others who have had L.A.B putters get rid and go back). However… cut to 12 months later and my putting has taken on leaps and bounds and u really can’t see ever using anything else. Sure. It’s not the prettiest and they make no secret of that. But of the 70% of people who go “no I don’t think I could use something like that” I reckon 70% of those who give it a try you “you know what… that’s realllly nice” My advice to anyone who goes for one. Put your old putter in safe keeping for a few months and just figure it out like they say in the video. It’ll come. And when it does, it’ll make your old putter feel trying to guide a sledgehammer

During the Monday live, Sam explained there is no such thing as a straight back straight forward. The key is have the the putter face square to your path (arc) the entire path and that is what it is designed to do. Question - is the amount of arc / stroke path influenced by the lie angle? I was fitted to 65° does this mean my arc should be more pronounced than say a 70° like angle? Not a physics expert so would appreciate an explanation.

Mostly, yes. The only ways to get your path exactly straight back & straight through are: 1. Extending your arms as you go back, then pulling them back in as you approach the ball 2. A 90 degree lie angle (which is illegal) That's the magic of the broomstick - getting to the edge of the rules and very close to a passive pendulum with no arc. I use a Mezz Max and one of the things I had to get used to is NOT fighting to keep it from opening (relative to my line) & trusting that it will close back up on the way down, because it does. The no-thumbs drill is a great way to get past this mental block, which is why Sam recommends it. Sam is a great guy. He'll even directly reply to questions on the GolfWRX forums. I think his putters will continue to gain popularity & at some point LAB will get bought out by one of the big four or PXG.

So the arc that the putter head draws on the ground is pretty irrelevant. Weather you're at 65 or 70, you still want to feel like the SHAFT moves on plane. The arc will take care of itself. Seach "lab golf putting board" and you'll see what i Mean.

I’ll give it a roll. Who wouldn’t want to at least give the concept a go if it means a few less putts.
