I'm an Italian, practicing Catholic who can sincerely say finding this series on Netflix has been a ray of sunshine in this gloomy, unprecedented quarantine. I've literally stayed up till 2/3 A.M. because like a great book, I couldn't "put it down" once I started watching. The universal HUMAN struggles and FAMILY dynamics trandscend all cultural and religious backgrounds. I connected to the characters' feelings of confusion, betrayal, yearning, loyalty, love, resistance, forgiveness, traditions, hopes, fears, dreams etc....Beyond riveting....PLEASE, PLEASE bring on season 3.....

@skontheroad26664 жыл бұрын
It is SO real that while I watched it and enjoyed it, I found it almost too realistic. In the sense that I felt like I was sitting in the apartment of my Israeli "Black Hat" cousins in Jerusalem, bored, waiting for our visit to end, as we all drank our tea and ate the pareve, dry cookes they served... lol...as we would catch up since the last time we visited and sat around the table and schmoozed... drinking tea and eating pareve cookies in Mea Shearim. Anyone who tells you it isn't realistic has never been in a situation that is like almost every scene in Shtisel! They hit the nail on the head and don't let anyone tell you differently! (I also recommend the other Israeli shows on Netflix as well as Unorthodox.Excellent!)
@avisjohnson61853 жыл бұрын
I could not agree more !!!! It's a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful show .
@skontheroad26663 жыл бұрын
Funny, when I wrote the original comment, I still thought I would be able to visit my 2 kids living in Israel right now. I would give anything to visit family there and eat their dry cookies, lol! A note about Unorthodox (as it has become an issue)--please remember that it is a true story, but it is also a dramatized movie of a very sad, uncommon story. Shtisel is much more authentic!

I am a secular Iranian born who has been living in the US for over 40 years. When I was growing up in Iran back in the 1960s & 1970s, we had a few religious relatives. It is astonishing to see how similar Jewish Orthodox life style is compared to a religious Iranian Muslim. Even the architecture, & behavior is similar to what I used to see in old Tehran. If both Israelis & Iranians/ Muslims focused on the similarities rather than differences, we could have a much more peaceful middle East. The series is great. The actors are doing a fantastic job.

My son is married to an Israeli orthodox Jewish young lady. I feel like I'm not only learning Hebrew but also beginning to understand the customs. I have no favorite actor/actress....I love them all! AKIVA is very kind n handsome, I must say! What I take away from the show is this; people are people! Despite our cultural differences we are all the same. Every family/extended family struggles with the same things! We are different but we are alike! Cannot wait until the next season!!!!! May blessings be upon you all.

After watching 3 seasons of Shtisel with Italian under-titles I can now recognize quite a few words of Hebrew as they are repeated many times in every episode! Ken=yes, lo=no, bevakasha=please, “toda”=thanks, shalom-shalom=hallo, lehitraot=bye, slikha=please, baruch Hashem=thank God, layla tov=goodnight, maa= what?, tov=fine, yofi=great, and I have learnt the numbers 1 to 9! I have also noticed that words tend to be pronounced with an accent on the last syllable. What a nice way to get a feeling of a new language!! Also, well done to the authors of the wonderful soundtrack!

The series was very touching and I grew fond of all the characters and saw the human side of what is else portrayed in the media as a very strict and robotic community. An excellent labour of art and love with an amazing cast and highly recommended to anyone. I do strongly believe that series like these bring us closer together as humans in the first place and we see that despite having different creeds, we're all just similar as humans, I love how Michael puts this in his humane view. For some reason, Dov's role as Shulem reminds me of Chaim Topol's role as Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof back in the day

Extraordinary series and cast!!! I adored it. Am an Italian non practicing catholic. As Michael said it so well, as humans we can identify to the story and characters. I also speak German, so I could enjoy the yiddish conversations. I laughed a lot and also shed a few tears. Congratulations!!!! 🎉🎈🎊

I am an Evangelist Messianic, which means we keep the Torah, the commandments, and even the Jewish Religious Celebrations, we don´t worship images but of course, we believe in Yeshua. Besides, as I was born and raised in Uruguay, I grew up surrounded by Jewish because Uruguay refugeed thousands of Jewish in WWII and the government even helped many to escape from camps. I also studied Theology. So, I have great knowledge of what Orthodox people are and how they live. I enjoyed the series Shtisel in a way that I cannot explain. The series is so full of details of how they take their faith and follow the Rabbies´ instructions that is amazing. Details like the rejection of the dog, the covering of women´s hair, the way they interact, the weddings, it is all great! But what I loved the most, is the struggle of Orthodox people against sin, and their family unity. I think it is the best series I have watched.

Haredi Jewish culture has so many similarities to Muslim law, segregation of men and women, being careful of our interactions, the kosher/halal food laws and saying blessings before eating and drinking. I think that's why so many of us laughed, cried and related to the characters and the series in general. In spite of our religious customs, we are all human. And it's hard to be human sometimes.

I'm Christian and I feel the same way. He have some types of christianity more ortodox. I have 2 friends from this kind of christianity and they had really big problems on their lives. Christians, Jews and muslims have soooooo much in common sooo much. We've came from the same origin and sometimes we forget that. Or someone tries to do that!

That is not exclusive to Charedi Jews--all orthodox Jews from Modern Orthodox (women wear pants, don't cover their hair and the family sometimes eats dairy "out", but keep kosher at home and keeps shabbat) to Hassidic Jews are still considered Orthodox. As Neta mentioned, there are more similarities between those who identify as Orthodox, than say a modern Orthodox Jew and a Reformed Jew.... there are many other great Israeli shows on Netflix and Prime worth checking out, btw. They are all great!

Handsome and so so intelligent and such a kind heart....I loved the serie shtisel...I highly recommend it....It wan genial....You can see in Akiva's eyes the suffer, the kindness of the human being trying to be true to himself in a community with heavy traditions....His acting is so great that when he suffers, you suffer. . THe person who interviewed Michael (a very intelligent person) shows us how jews feel themselves as a seperately community from the rest of the world (not a bad thing, when you need to take distance from bad things or customs) , Michael answered so well to be respectful to others. God bless you Michael and Good Luck in Hollywood.
