I mean, I still feel like L lost on purpose (at least, in the anime). It's clear he knew Light was Kira. But, he couldn't 'prove' it. Given how dangerous Kira was, and Ls grey morality, why doesn't he just kill Light 'just in case'? Perhaps his principles of justice. I think it's more than that, though - I think it's the standards he set himself 'I want to win on my own terms, a complete victory where I prove that you are Kira beyond a doubt'. In the last anime episode with L and Light, and the foot washing, it's very VERY biblical - it's like L knows he's going to die soon and is 'making way' for Light's victory and his rise to being a messiah. Personally, I feel that when L says 'Sabishii desu ne'? on the rooftop, he's feeling pathetic and worthless because he can't bring himself to kill Light. It's at that point he concedes., even if it means death.

L was able to look at a very narrow perspective and also at the bigger picture. Sure, he died but that's not all. If you think his plan was over right after he died. You're technically wrong.. You might think he lost against Light Yagami(which has the Deathnote)just because he died.. No.. L Lawliet is always prepared for everything he do especially when it comes to being a detective. He is always expecting something to happen even his own death... His deduction skills sets him apart from the other characters... Now.. Here's a quote he said "I already lost the battle, but I will not lose the war"... That means that he himself knows that he may not be enough to catch Kira because of his massive advantages which puts L in a very difficult position...So by taking that into consideration he knows that he already has a very short amount of time to live given how the things are going. All he knows now is that he needs to do something for the greater good. He's not afraid to risk his life to achieve his main goal. He knows that what really matters the most is to catch Kira. The truth is he knew it was Light Yagami and the only thing missing is a definite proof. So he deviced a masterful plan which requires no unnecessary mistakes. Its his duty to make it all work and set the proper preparations for the future before his death. Thus making everything fall into his script.. It starts from him dying to Near finally catching Light Yagami. L did what he had to do and executed his plan in a very sophisticated manner. He thought ahead more than anyone and is more adaptable. He was able to cope with his position and make the best out of it by carefully choosing his decisions. He thought the possible outcomes, prepared a masterful plan and acted upon it accordingly. After he died he already figured out the major details and left all of the necessary information Near needs. He started the case in a very profound way and all it needs is a good ending. His conclusions were already set and all that's left is to prove it. All of the events fell exactly the way he wanted it to. Near and Mello was just his tools that he needed for it to work a.k.a(the cherry on top). He was the one who constructed a plan and made the events fall right into his script even without his existence. That just shows how brilliant L Lawliet is... He is the Greatest detective in the world.

The first story arc of “Death Note” was so compelling because of L and Light’s interactions. Some of the best and funnest ‘cat and mouse’ moments I’ve seen in media came from the first arc of “Death Note”. Really wish it wrapped in that single arc, I’m not a fan of the second story arc.

Yeah, the first part was really superior to the second part. Though the second part isn't the second arc, it's the third arc, I think, since the Yotsuba Arc must be the second one with the Light vs L arc being the first one.

I'd like to point out that yes L died, but upon his and Watari's deaths he had a contingency of erasing specific bits of data, like say an orphanage with children being trained to take L's place, had this not been done Light would have found out about it and done something about such future threats, so yes L died but upon his death he cemented Light's complete defeat, at the end of the series though Light considered himself a God he was shown just how psychopathic and desperate he was at the very end.....in the game of chess that was Light vs L.....L lost his Queen (himself)......but in doing so Light set off a chain of events that not only ended with his defeat, but the reveal of his true self to everyone

Both were crazy young, sad that they never got to live all the years ahead of them, light couldve had an amazing future, he couldve stayed a good student and become successful and he chose not too, what a shame, I feel like him and L couldve been amazing together if he simply wasnt kira, like how it was mentioned in the series, light helped with cases, and he was studying to become an fbi agent or something idk I forgot, but his I think his father or someone mentioned something like that, so in another life, it couldve been possible that they would have been an outstanding duo, but, just because of one decision, he lost the fate he could have had

Imagine this: When Rem found out Light had Misa start killing again and figured that Rem had to kill L and Watari, what if instead of killing L, she killed Light. Yes it would have hurt Misa, but Light didn't love her like she'd wanted. So if Rem convinced Misa of the truth, she could've killed Light and L would know he'd been right all along.

L, Near and Light's father are by far my fav characters. I still can't process his death but he knew too well what his fate was. Ofcourse he is a liar and manipulative but that how intelligence works. I don't know if he was acting when he helped Light feet to dry off but that scene really made me feel like even though he want to catch Kira badly, he didn't want to let go of his friend. That scene really broke my heart especially knowing that Light feeling for him is not mutual.

I keep hearing One Piece as the music is used often and fits the Pirate theme but this doesn't. Can you use something else?
