The skin was so thin you had to have care where to step. A foot plate on left wing near cockpit allows for access. Ground crew would retract hand holds and foot stirrup. High speed would make ailerons difficult to move. Early models had chin scooping fairing for carburetor and twin exhaust stacks forward of main wheel wells.
