A few weeks ago I rode a bus through this tunnel (because the Flåmsbana train from Oslo to Flåm had been closed by a rockslide). In places, it was pretty psychedelic with that wild lighting.

Oncoming traffic in a tunnel is a real danger in case of an accident. Never forget the accident in the Mont Blanc tunnel when a car caught fire and the tunnel became a furnace…

I drove through the Gotthard tunnel once in an October night . I had been driving for 6 hours before driving through it and had a very hard time keeping my eyes open and not falling asleep because it was hot and smelled of diesel fumes from the trucks .

@@evanr1784why tf didnt you stop earlier then? There are plenty of service stations before the tunnel. If I know that I am going to be driving through something requiring my full concentration, I’ll make sure to be awake.

I couldn't even stand the 5mins tunnel in Oslo. I don't think i could drive all the way through here without a cruise control.

The lights inside that tunnel look just like the lights in the abandoned pa turnpike tunnel but they took them out and now the abandoned pa turnpike is a bike trail so you can ride your bike though the two tunnels with a light.

If you watched this without a description from about one minute in, you could be forgiven for thinking this was a drive along a normal country road at night. It barely seems like you're in a tunnel.

I am not sure if this is the world longest road tunnel. Cause in Helsinki you have also a service tunnel. Across the whole city. I copy and paste some information. Some general Statistics about Helsinki Underground city Over 400 Separate facilities Total tunnels length 293km 194 km of technical tunnels 34 km of traffic tunnels 30 km of tunnels with secondary purpose as emergency shelters 14 km of parking caverns 22 km of tunnels for other purposes And all the tunnels are connected with each other that's why it's called: underground city.

Shows what happens in a rich country where the state has almost more money than it knows what to do with. It builds the world's longest road tunnel from nowhere to nowhere carrying minimal traffic.

It's on the E16 route between Oslo and Bergen... The capital, and the other the second largest city. it doesn't go "nowhere" it's one of our most important routes for the country to function. Please educate yourself on matters before making ignorant comments like that.

@@Glenni91N I'm fully of where it goes to and from thanks. Its NOT essential to Norway's transport network since travel between all the major cities: Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim etc can all be done without using it albeit with long journeys. Does it improve road connections, particularly between smaller isolated settlements? Yes. Is it Useless? No and I never said it was. My point was, most countries without Norway's financial resources would not have considered it financially viable given its low usage, high cost and available, usable alternatives. But Norway HAS those resources, so good luck to it!
