My take... using the Haoge LH-X54B Square Metal Lens Hood means you can change lens filters without needing to fiddle around with a screwdriver - it’s a much better design than the Squarehood (but looks the same). The JJC Aluminum Arca-type camera hand grip, all metal and cheaply available on Amazon provides a much, much better grip than standard and negates the need for a thumb-grip that hinders access to controls, hinged or not.
@TheLiamGordon3 жыл бұрын
Fair point for folks looking to change filters regularly. I didn’t consider a filter for anything other than weather sealing so mine has stayed on there. If I’m removing the hood I just screw it off with the filter and put the original ring back on. Hand grips could be a good option for some people too. Especially if there’s a lot of rear dial usage.

Technically yes, but it will leave an odd space as the hood will just grip onto the outermost filter and it will most likely start to vignette too. Some filters will also be too fat for the squarehood though. Such as the moment Cinebloom filter.

Hi Liam - Another fascinating presentation. Thank you. I am awaiting my Fuji X100V and have also ordered the Fuji adaptor and filter. May I please ask you a couple questions. 1. Will the square hood mark ii fit on the fuji adaptor / filter ? 2. I am also thinking of buying the Fuji WCLii and wonder if the square hood will fit on this and crucially whether it's likely to cause vignetting on the 28mm equivalent adaptor. Thanks a lot. Kind regards, Adam.
@TheLiamGordon4 жыл бұрын
Adam Lucas Hey Adam! The squarehood should technically fit with the Fuji adapter, but it might look a little odd. Their own adapter conforms to its proportions so it looks flush. The squarehood almost certainly won’t work with the wcl though, it’s made for the original focal length :(
@Enrique-the-photographer4 жыл бұрын
I just went to their website (Squarehood) but I only see the lens hood for the X100 cameras, I’m looking for a shorter lens hood (not necessarily square) for the XF 55-200, any suggestions? I’m sure someone is going to say that it was engineered that way by Fuji to work with the lens, I just want a shorter one. Stay safe Liam.
@TheLiamGordon4 жыл бұрын
Enrique yeah squarehood only makes them for a limited selection of primes. The only thing I can think of is finding a Fuji lens with the same front diameter and seeing if the hood for that is shorter.

Agree the Lensmate thumbrest is brilliant and adds to the comfort and security of holding the camera. Another good soft shutter is the JJC... flat leather top with ribbed metal sides. The black button with blue leather looks great on the black X200V. Wrist straps are great for this small camera. Add a Gordy Sling strap with tripod screw attachment for quick on/off and all bases are covered. Weather-sealing is a must; the Fuji adapter, filter and lens hood work fine. The Gariz half-case gives a little extra front grip, helps protect the camera, and is comfortable. Too bad they didn't make the accessory cover large enough to fit a weather-sealed camera (per reviews, it only fits the camera as sent from the factory). Finally, the Nicore FX-1 battery charger with usb plug charges 2 batteries at once, has an LCD screen showing status of both batteries and is very compact.

Suggestion for easy removal/attachment of strap - attach one end of double “s” small metal spring clip (key dept. of hardware store) to cam O ring (or cam body eyelet) and attach strap O-ring to the other end of the spring clip; strong, secure, easy to put on and off. Clips sold in different colors (including black) to match your personal preferences.

Paul M good idea, Paul. Now that that leather strap is on there, I hope to not need to remove it again for a long time. Might use that method on other cameras though

I'm amazed how almost all straps truly fail to create an easy, minimalist on-off strategy for connecting to the camera. I've also visited the hardware store many times to jerry-rig my own solution, and I'm still not perfectly satisfied. It seems like something that could easily be manufactured, to clip seamlessly into those small eye-mounts.

What’s so good about a lens hood that needs a tool to attach/remove it? In most situations you can manage without one with this camera and embrace it’s compact design. I would also comment that the Lensmate thumb grip is very expensive and hard to purchase here in The UK.
@TheLiamGordon4 жыл бұрын
I don't really need to remove the hood. That being said, it attaches to the filter so can be screwed on and off easily... You don't NEED any accessories but as I mentioned, it makes my shooting experience better for the way I use the camera. Theres about 300 days of sunshine here and a hood is actually pretty handy. There are lots of cheap thumbrest options out there that are decent if the lensmate one is too pricey in the UK.

@@TheLiamGordon Also the V100F is so commonly compared to the Ricoh GR III which is tiny and pocket friendly. The V100 series is always larger and really portable but not pocket-y. That said I think Fujifilm really made some smart concessions to reduce the size of the camera. If they made all of these creature comforts there from the factory, we'll you have yourself a larger mirrorless or SLR-like frame that is "good design" as Richard said. This is a travel, compact and street camera. Its not and IMO should not have those features by design but allow you to add them as an option if you want. Its perfect. I'd argue that the V100 series exemplifies the term "good design", and that extends outside of photo gear. Its a work of art and excels at most what it strives for.
