Also, they mention target a few times, which is another huge store that is similar to Walmart. Walmart is the less expensive of the two in general, but not always. You can think of it like this, if they were restaurants, Walmart would be a drive-through fast food place, and target is a slightly higher quality place that you actually have to sit down and dine in, but like it wouldn’t have tablecloths or waiters.

K-mart used to be Walmart's biggest rival, now it's Target, but Target stores aren't as widespread as Walmart stores. When we had a K-Mart in Tupelo, Mississippi, we had two Walmart stores and then one of the Walmart stores upgraded to a Supercenter across the street from the mall where K-mart was. They also put in a Sam's store (similar to CostCo). Tupelo was the first town to have one of each Walmart store because we had a Walmart, a Supercenter, a Sam's, and a Bud's Retail Outlet. Bud's was Walmart's experiment to ride out the lease in stores that were moved or upgraded so they could sell returned goods that were still sellable and various deals. It didn't last long, but several other companies started doing the same thing across the country, kind of like when a Pizza Hut or McDonald's moves and then other businesses move in. The Thanksgiving horror movie takes place in a vacated Walmart store to simulate the old school Black Friday riots. :)

Walmart actually started out as a discount department store. None of them around me had groceries until the late 80's. So, a Super Walmart will have car tires with services to change your oil and put said car tires on; other small parts for gas powered tools like batteries for your boat and lawn mower, spark plugs and air filters for those same things, etc.; small car decor and parts like pads to sit on, car wash supplies, motor oil and filters, etc.; Small tools that could be battery powered, electric, or hand held like hammers, circular saws, electric screwdrivers, etc.; house paint and spray paint and a color station where those can be colored; other goods to keep the household repaired like air filters for the AC units, wood and metal screws, sump pumps, toilet repair kits; and the like... these will vary by region as the desert doesn't need sump pumps and no one in the midwest has a swamp cooler; household items like bath towels, small kitchen appliances; ceiling fans and regular fans, bed sheets, pots and pans, trash cans; various containers to pack things away, etc.; cleaning supplies for just about everything... from cleaning your car and laundry to acid washing your tub and all the mops, sponges, and gloves you need to go with it; clothing for the whole family including intimates; a pharmacy and everything that you see in one of those from vitamins to toothpaste to tampons to knee wraps; furniture and other household decor; sewing supplies including fabrics and sewing machines; office and school supplies including printers and computers; televisions, gaming consoles, and stereos and all the little bits and bobs that go along with those; toys, games and bicycles; DVDs and ... believe it or not... CDs; pet food and products including flea sprays/collars and carrying cages for all kinds of pets like birds, cats, fish, and dogs(some in my area even have a small selection of horse supplies); and then... a whole grocery store. Up front of the store you will see everything from small banks to Subway to hair salons but almost all of them have a place to get prescription glasses with an optometrist.

In the old days, manufacturers only got roughly 15-20% of the retail price of a product - most of the cost went to the distribution networks - you had to hire a national distributor who in turn had regional distributors and the regional distributors had local distributors. Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, decided to cut out the distributors and bought directly from the manufacturers. So that is three levels of profit-making that he cut out which allowed him to sell the same product at lower prices. He was so successful that started the rise of the chain stores who followed suit. Of course that put the distributors out of business but consumers benefitted from lower prices. Unfortunately that also made us a throw-away society and the only repair shops left are for big ticket items like cars.

Add to my previous comment about my local grocery store... They not only pack your groceries in free bags, the bag person will walk you out to your car and help unload the cart (trolley). You can find good fresh vegetables. Easily. If you're in a big city that doesn't support local farmers in a farmers market you may have trouble but everywhere else you can. Most rural foods grow their own too. You'll see vegetable stands along the road or in parking lots too. They're literally everywhere. I haven't shopped at Walmart in over a decade. They suck compared to other food stores. I spend about $50-$60 a week to feed 3 people. Occasionally i spend a little more. When my garden is producing i probably spend about $25-$30 a week. I hunt though and have chickens and a few other animals so i don't have to buy much. It's a choice on how you want to live and what you want to eat. Our grocery stores pack your bags and will take your cart to your car for you. In my town they have free coffee for adults and free fresh fruit for the kids to have while you shop.

One of the largest departments in walmart is "impulse buys" 82. It represents all of those clips strips with random merchandise dangling in all the aisles and a lot of the stuff around the cash wraps. It includes things that really wont fit into any other department.

The problem is that there's probably thousands of videos of first trip to Walmart first trip to Bass Pro shop, first trip to whatever and then when you have an active reactors Channel at some point you've now seen five or six people's first time going to Walmart and every one of them is basically the same. Oh my gosh you have so much cereal! Wow so many potato chips! Oh my God so many Oreo options. We need some original stuff! I always give Lewis a thumbs up on his videos and stuff just because of loyalty to his channel but sometimes I do just let it play for the first 2 minutes so it gives them a watch credit and a thumbs up but I don't watch the video the whole time because they're so repetitious.

while traveling, if you put any container that has liquid in it in your suitcase. also put it into a ziplock bag in case it leaks or explodes due to air pressure changes while flying.. it'll save you a ton of clean up. when I left the Army and started working as a contractor for the Army overseas, I would take vacations back to the U.S. and while home, I would buy all the stuff I felt that I needed when I went back overseas. I would then box it all up and ship it through the Postal Service or even FedEx/UPS. it was MUCH cheaper than packing it in my suitcase and paying extra for the weight. I used to ship around 150 lbs in two large boxes this way each vacation back home.

Brilliant. I did something similar in Pittsburgh when I was at a 4-day conference many years ago. Found king size pillows I loved but no space in my luggage, so the sales lady packed them in a box, had me fill out the shipping label and added the shipping charge to my bill. Obviously, they had done this before. It was very much appreciated.

I do MONTHLY food stops and then go back because I no doubt forgot something. Remember we have HUGE refrigerators and usually a second ice box in the garage/basement/pantry/whatever. Some states you have to pay for bags, some don't do plastic at all. You usually pay just $0.10/bag. Some Walmarts sell guns, it depends on the state and county. There is usually a pro bagger who is paid to bag your grocery wares.

The oil can be run through a paper coffee filter after it has cooled and returned to the bottle for continued use several times. Food, toiletries, household items…. I packed a smaller suitcase for my clothes and such On the way home I just put my smaller suitcase into the larger one so I only had I bag on the return flight. You could do the same in reverse when you come to America. Or just buy a second suitcase when you are here. Easy to buy at Walmart, Target or similar stores.

The furniture is usually your college dorm variety of particle board (shredded wood glued and pressed together) and plastic. Great for if you are on a budget, but not if you were trying to impress the in-laws. Wal-Mart comes in various sizes. The kinds where you have a full grocery section will be a Supercenter. It will have a fast food counter inside, plus maybe a hair or nail salon, and usually a bank, optometrist, or tax preparer at the front of the store. Some may even sell gasoline at a Murphy's gas station out in the parking lot. There are some old Walmarts that aren't Supercenters. They are usually in small towns, and they don't have all of the things I've mentioned. These are just your basic Walmarts. They're fine for getting necessities, but they may have just a couple of rows for groceries and one freezer. They are probably 1/6 the size of a Supercenter.

Jello is a brand name and has both gelatin type desserts (the jiggly kind) and pudding (like a thick mousse). That oreo one was the pudding and it's good. My son adds whipped cream to it and makes an oreo pie. The 9 shelves he was counting was different teas. To me, Little Debbie's is a cheaper version of Hostess (the makers of Twinkies). It has an artificial taste to me but a lot of people like them. Walmart has a few furniture items. Futon, desk, tv stands with drawers, etc. It also sells towels, sheets, blankets, camping stuff, dog/cat/bird stuff, gardening plants, swimming pool supplies, pharmacy items, appliances for your kitchen, luggage, etc. I've been watching an english family go shopping in the UK and it does seem like your prices are better there, even for the same size items. So, the US is a little more expensive (except when you find roadside stands selling fruits/vegetables in a farming area). **and if you ask, Walmart in California quit selling guns years ago. They may still sell them in some states. They use to sell guns and ammo by the camping items. Oh and most Walmarts sell car items, oil, installs tires, changes oil (some do not but still sell the car items-oil, floor mats, cleaning items, etc)

9:50 every grocery store will have fresh veggies and fruits... and some will even have pre-cut veggies and fruit... now that's not to say that some stores will have veggies and fruit that is starting to go bad or even rotting, they will have some stores like that, but overall most stores are good about dealing with that quickly... and even walmart will occasionally miss something BUT if you point it out to an employee (of any store), they will quickly get someone to come fix it... only the worst stores won't try and change it immediately...

Lewis, most people actually make their own Rice Krispy Treats. You just mix Rice Krispies with Marshmellow cream. You see those Jars of Marshmellow cream in some videos? That's what those are for...mostly... But all you do is pour Rice Krispies into a big bowl, pour in your marshmellow cream, mix it up real good, then put that mixture into a tray container. Level it all out, put it in the fridge to let it firm up, take it out, cut it all into squares and then eat it.

The shoppers would go to the luggage section to buy suitcases and then load up on items to bring back home. All the mascara would be cleared out in less than an hour.

The one I briefly worked at near the Canadian border in WA state would run out of milk. Apparently we subsidize corn to feed the cows so that milk is cheaper in the US than in Canada. They would come down and fill a shopping cart with gallons of milk. They would also buy shoes and leave the cardboard box outside on the sidewalk or in the parking lot. If you brought new shoes over the border you had to pay a tax, so they just wore them and left the trash for us to pick up.

(like 50lbs bag of rice)... I had a friend that would buy for 6 months at a time as he lived very far from any towns and didn't like driving the 60+ miles just to grocery shop. he had 5 deep freezers for all the meat and frozen stuff. (he'd buy a whole cow and have a butcher make all the cuts for different parts... he used 2 of the freezers just for that) Additionally, when you have several people and/or multiple children (of various ages, but teens eat the most), it helps to have larger sizes....

Had to ring every item myself! The first batch of items went on another card, only to discover they don't have wallet pay, so had to void off all of those items! It's a pain in the ass to go to that filthy store , and feels like they should pay you for all the work you had to do by the time you leave! But they're not going to pay the customers, they don't even pay their employees! They cut their hours so they don't have to pay for their health insurance also. Walmart just sucks!!
