+ThePeperteam En fait je pense aussi qu'ils ont freeze pour la télé mais je me suis amusé à regarder les "figurants" ( c'était génial ! ) et si on observe bien on peut voir que les 4 premiers figurants que l'on voit assis au tout début disparaissent par magie et se retrouvent à offrir les cadeaux. Donc je pense qu'ils on quand même du coupé à cet endroit là mais qu'ils l'ont très bien camouflé. Après ça reste un sacré exploit d'avoir su tourner TOUT le reste de la vidéo en plan séquence !

The typical reaction of almost all non-french people in this situation is to move your head back the first time because we are used to make "la bise", and as you are not it's really weird for you, but after one year or two you'll get used to it. And btw, remember we are french, we swear, we grumble a lot, and we have weird social rules as well as we don't give a f*ck to 15 years-old teens buying alchool (while in america even my 70 years grandfather had to show his ID to buy wine). That's our culture, and even if we are sometimes not very pround of it, we are really attached to it, so we won't give it up. 11 years living in France.. it is ALL TRUE! OMG! The kissing strangers as a girl, what side to start on?! And that becomes an excuse for some creepy dude to kiss you on the mouth.. saying "thanks", "hello", "bye" and pretending to be sick doesn't always work either! No! Je revois cette vidéo 3 ans après... et je la trouve tjrs aussi hilarante. C'est marrant, les différences avec "WTF France" et le basculement chez Canal sont énormes. L'humour est le même mais la réalisation et le style ont été vachement travaillés. WTF France est plus dynamique, plus chouette visuellement, les transitions sont meilleures. Même le personnage de Paul Taylor a changé. Il est devenu plus dynamique, plus déjanté, plus caricatural et au final plus attachant. La bise, ça m'a toujours gonflé et même en tant que Français je ne me suis jamais totalement habitué. La bise aux amis proches, à la famille ça va. Par contre à tous les autres ça reste un bordel sans nom. La bise quand y a plein de monde ça me saoule, la bise... quand je vais pour faire la bise à une femme... et qu'elle me tend la main > moment de gêne, inversement quand je tends la main et qu'on me tend la joue > pareil, la bise quand je suis puant de transpiration et que j'aimerais garder une distance de sécurité (chez moi c'est l'été 8 mois sur 12 !!!) > arf, a honte. La bise qui part du mauvais côté et qu'on manque d'embrasser l'autre sur la bouche (involontairement) > aïe... etc. RESULTAT : j'ai la crève environ 11 mois par an !!! ^^

Pour ma part je suis Belge et c'est toujours perturbant quand je vais voir ma famille en France et que tout le monde fait 2 bises XD Chaque fois j'en fais une puis il y a ce regard de l'autre et ce moment d'immobilité avec un doute " Mais qu'est-ce que tu fais ? " En Belgique - côté wallon en tout cas - on en fait une à tout le monde, enfin sauf les mecs qui souvent se contentent de se serrer la main ? Enfin, les filles s'en fichent elles font la bise. I am belgian and I live in France. I totally agree with that video. The only advantage that I see is that it is actually (and paradoxically) more hygienic than shaking hands, since people are touching everything with their hands. Normally, we don't touch anything with our cheeks. It's safer to touch cheeks. Even if a face is touched by hands frequently, germs won't migrate so easily. The majority of the germs will stay on the hands. You will not find more germs on a face than you will find on hands. I am not saying that dirty people cheeks are clean. I am saying that their hands are worse... especially because that kind of people almost never wash hands.

Amazing, LOVED it. As a French person I only do the bise with people I do not see often, some of my family that I actually want to kiss, and a couple of colleagues who expressedly demand to be kissed. But I used to be more socially awkward than I am now and kissing strangers was a torture. Also, when you don't start on the same cheek, it gets quite embarrassing - I always start on the right because I'm from the west of France but my boyfriend's from the east of paris and all his family is composed of left-cheek-kissers - that's totally annoying.

Excellent video! I laughed pretty hard! I had the opposite problem when studying abroad: I always had the impulse to kiss people and felt extremely awkward to just stand there and say "hi" instead. It made no sense to me haha But when I cam back home after a year, I had to get back into the habit of doing "la bise" again! You should come to Belgium, we have it much simpler: 1 "bise" from the right to everyone (no matter their gender) unless it's a formal/business setting. Also, if you arrive to a party and everyone is already there, it's okay to just say "hi everyone" and not do "la bise" to everyone (even though we appreciate it if you do). ;)

Greetings are very important in France. When you arrive at a party you're supposed to do la bise to everybody, and also eventually introduce the new people who accompany you. It is very different in the US where you are not really expected to aknowledge everybody and where friends don't really introduce you. I think the French way actually makes it easier to fit in for an outsider, but you have to know the rules of course and it is complicated haha

+French Fried TV It's funny because we french have always done this for as long as we can remember. It never occured to me that it could be weird to anyone until I went to the UK xD Anyway don't make a big deal of it, because it's not. And if you want to get it a bit more, it's simple : Girls kiss everyone, men and girls included. EASY Men only kiss their very close friends and it's not everyone doing that, most are just handshaking. The kiss has that intimate weirdness that not all men are comfortable with when it comes to kissing another man. Number of kisses ? Nobody cares, stick with 2 and you're fine as it's the most common way all over the territory.

This is (almost) not exaggerated. When I moved to France, I had to get used to this as well. Fortunately, being "sick" or pretending to be sick is quite effective

When I'm late night drunk in a bar, I'll start to challenge myself and try to do la bise to everyone in the bar. That's weird but most of the time everyone just agrees, laugh, smile and have a nice chat with me. Last time I managed to kiss everyone in the bar except for one guy who thought I was flirting with him, I ended up kissing 67 strangers and receiving 67 smiles. Not so bad a custom.

OMG ! This video just explained how I feel all the time. Try faking being ill, you have to mention the name of the illness because depending on the illness you can or cannot AFFORD la bise. So you'd better know the name of the most contagious one ! And it doesn't just stop at the bar with your friends, you also have to do this at work to everyone on your floor ! I admit though, that when you "faire la bise", it breaks some kind of barrier...erm...I'm still trying to figure it out though... Ah, I love the French :)

I personally don't think it helps "breaking this barrier", since we do "la bise" with every single person we don't meet in a formal context, so it becomes really quickly a routine, even to foreign people, to kiss a random stranger on the cheek in France :p

As a french girl that now lives in Germany, I really miss la bise. It's actually much simpler to me X) I never know how to say hallo to people. If it's a friend's friend, handshake is too formal but a hug is too intimate.. So what ? I just stay here doing nothing ? With la bise at least you know what to do no matter who you're with X)

In the UK we do kiss as well you know (1. when you meet someone for the first time/introductions 2. if you haven't seen them in a while 3. If they are family or close friends) just nowadays especially young people are very bad at it. You should do it as it gets appreciated, but just one on the cheek and no french kissing.

Just do it like how we Americans do it: presume everyone is actually an asshole and not worth interacting with or even looking in the eyes, UNLESS you need something. There are only three things you can then possible need: 1) sex, 2) directions to the toilet, 3) asking the person to get out of the way. We don't have emotional problems. I'm not secretly crying on the inside, you're crying. (But honestly, I think it's awesome that the French have it built in that they're that affectionate casually. I prefer hugs over handshakes any day).

Latin culture spread by the Romans, that's why. Although I've lived in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Argentina and none of those countries is nearly as regimented as France regards kisses. In Paris I had to go around the whole office kissing everyone every morning and night. In Barcelona we never did this, it was like the UK just wave say hi and that's it. Argentina the same.

J'habite en Suisse... On du bol, on a une espèce de convention générale dans toute la confédération qui fait qu'on fait tous trois bises en commençant... là d'où t’arrive (perso je mets systématiquement une main sur l'épaule, ça aide à pas partir en vrille et ça indique là où tu commence :p) Aussi, on fait pas la bise entre hommes SAUF dans certains cas spécifiques mais c'est toujours après discussion ;) (bon après, moi j'ai tendance à répandre l'amour et la poignée de main autant que possible :p)

I was at my improv' class. One my classmate arrived. The guy I was talking to said hello first by shaking hands. So I went automatically for the hand too. The guy didn't shook my hand and just looked at me weirdly. Seriously, I have to lay my face on other people faces, make a noise I always forget to do anyway (which has been noticed, I've been told it's strange, nothing mean or anything, just curious. People are so used to something that when you do it differently, even if it's just one detail, it's suddenly the oddest thing in the world.) and half of the times I get the side wrong. But guys just get to shake hand... Seriouly ! So yeah my favourite moments of the video was by far the girl's "not by choice !". Also I usually answer "how I are you ?" (Ça va ?) by "and you ?" (Et toi ?) Get me through the "hello moments" faster. And when there's a lot of people, I just do a common hello !
