As an LA native, I have two things to say about this. 1) Dating is hard in LA because marriage and family law in California are brutal towards men. A man would have to be insane to file for marriage here. 2) Plenty of brothers ARE interested in black women. The problem is that those brothers who didn't win the genetic lottery got zero play from their counterparts. It's not until those men became successful that black women actually wanted them, and at that point, those men have the pick of the litter. Why show loyalty to a group that never wanted you to begin with..Also, California is an expensive melting pot. Success here comes with MANY options.

As a long-time resident of LA (high school, university), YES. Black men do have a diversity of choices here in Cali. This starts at the junior high school level, so by adulthood, it's normalized. Sisters are handicapped because they don't want to or think that they should have to compete for brothers (but they'll compete for Brad 😅) . My high school girl was Persian (Iranian). In university, I dated, South Korean, Japanese, Latinas, white, etc. I married a beautiful sister who approached me in the gym each day to say hi. She didn't have to chase me. She just made sure she was in frame whenever i was there.

I'm a black man 6'3" fit and made six figures when I lived in LA, but what I noticed is the BW I would see were always overly masculine or loud and they wanted men to make the move to them, but they didn't want to do anything to standout from all the other women. White women that approached me were always kind, extremely fit and complimented me! It seemed that the white women were not afraid to go after what they wanted whereas the black women seemed to think it was beneath them and they should not have to do anything but exist. I hear dating is rough in EVERY major city in America for black women. That includes New york city, Miami, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston etc. Its a combination of things that are not on our sides. Yes the attitudes, but even the nice sistas get over looked because they could be carrying extra weight, or their hair is crazy fake or not done properly. Then there's the wardrobe. The biggest lie ever told about black women and fashion is that we dress the best. I've seen plenty of black women that just don't know what they are doing wardrobe wise. Then the places black women go to look for men are a no no. Don't go to the club expecting a connection. A winery, a high end restaurant, bookstore, museum, country club etc are places you don't see many black women in, but there will be successful black men there if my hunch is correct. I met my man here on KZbin talking about these topics so what do I know right? It doesn't hurt to date a man with Average income, if the two of you are savvy and ambitious enough, you will find ways to make more money as time passes.

I lived in Los Angeles for 35 years and it was extremely hard to date black women. If you didn’t fit their height requirements, financial requirements (I made $75k a year that wasn’t good enough) and I wasn’t hood enough. The funny part is that white and Mexican women would talk to me all the time. I went to Mingle and Plei for years and would only get rejection. Then one day this very attractive white woman who I didn’t know sat down next to me and started flirting with me. Those same black women who ignored me walked around us calling me a sellout and mad dogged me. LOL😂😂😂 My stupid butt should’ve got her number because she wanted me to ask her. Nooooooo, I asked the black girl across from me like a fool. LOL😅😂 To this day I regret not asking her instead.

Cali is a very competitive state, the coast of living is very high. If you’re a regular black man doing ok you will have latin/white women COMPETING for you, aggressively. As well as smaller exotic groups like Armenians and Persians. They’ll often Make the first move or send obvious signals. If you’re a sucessful black man, the women get prettier, more submissive, and come in higher volumes, just like everywhere else. There are only a few black people in LA and most black women in LA are insulted with the idea of having to compete for black men. Dark skinned south Asian womon from LA here. These perspectives were interesting, and I felt like I should drop mine here too. LA has changed A LOT since the 90s. I used to live in a really nice black neighborhood. I think all the black neighborhoods of LA are gone now, even around Crenshaw. Completely gentrified. Anyway, being a chocolate skinned grrl myself, over the years, I think black men have always approached me far more than all other types of men, including my own…. I figured because we’re both dark so we can relate? In my culture, it’s a status symbol for the men to marry a lighter skinned womon. I was engaged a few times to Asian men, but had 3 relationships with black men that I felt I should share here after hearing my sisters speak here. Many more than 3 approached me, but I had a relationship with 3. Anyway, MANY MANY MANY times, the men (from LA only, not other parts of USA) would big time compliment my hair (I have straight hair down to my thighs), but then complain about black womxn’s hair (even though it’s the same type of hair that grows out of their own heads? 🥴). I’d go on 1-2 dates or just meet them on the street, and they’d make a big deal to tell me about how much better I am than black womxn, and ask if I have a sister for their friends. 🤦🏾‍♀️💩🤡. So weird, off-putting, and disgusting. Such a turnoff. One of these guys ran some sort of hair care shampoo business, and he wanted me to model for the shampoo. I was in the university during that time, and I went to my black jazz band professor and quietly explained the situation and asked how to proceed, saying that something feels bad. I said I have different type of Asian hair, and black womxn looking at my picture for shampoo to buy it felt all kinds of wrong. He helped me process it and I declined the modeling offer. Like, when I dated Chinese, Indian, white, etc guys, nobody put down their own womxn as much as these guys did…. It was weird. I’ve had a few Mexican guys complain about the womxn being too much into Catholic Church, but I feel like that was different. Now to my 3 relationships: 1. Both of his parents were addicts… he wanted to marry me but always freaked out right before and would disappear. His family nagged him to marry me for years. We met in school and knew each other for decades. He’s a good guy who makes solid money and I love him, but relationships take 2 and he’s unwilling to do the inner work to be with anyone, not just me. The next 2 guys after that were some weird stuff I’d never come across dating men from various cultures. AND they did the same stuff? So weird. Basically they had believable stories about transition and hard times…. So I helped them a little, they went bragging all over to their friends that they got an Asian grrl to take care of them…. In a nutshell, these guys were hobosexuals (there wasn’t a name for this at that time, and I didn’t know this behavior was a thing). They had zero intentions of ever being on their feet. They just go through life living off of womxn. I kicked them both out in roughly a year. Losers who blame everyone but themselves, and later on they said I’m “more understanding” than black womxn? Looking back, I realized I wasn’t more understanding. I even had black womxn warning me that these guys were gonna flush my life down the toilet, and these guys said they were “jealous”. No. They weren’t jealous. They knew that I’m Asian with the Asian upbringing, and have never seen these hobo types before, but they have. All of my relatives were against these relationships and I thought they were being racist. The only ones louder than my relatives were my black grrlfriends. They and my people both were saying these guys always get grrls pregnant, create problems, and leave. I hate it that the few dudes I was with actually lived up to the worst stereotypes (I don’t have any kids). Being unmarried to the mother of your children is like the worst crime in my culture, and 2 of these dudes had kids. They convinced me the moms were the problem, but I soon realized it was them. They were also the only men who refused to talk to my dad about how they were gonna take care of me (ALL my other partners brought gifts to my dad, laid out their finances, asked my dad for financial advice, and also assured him that they would fully support me). Only these 3 dudes refused to have the talk. All my other boyfriends before and after them always went to my dad to assure him that they will provide for me. I think LA has a lot of these hobo types who want womxn to pay bills, even if she is pregnant. I’ve also been on outings and dates on the east coast and in the south with black men who are in abundance as the one lady said (never been to Atlanta). I’d say the men in those areas are generally far more educated, sophisticated, traveled, respectful, resourceful, worldly, polite, and family oriented types than a lot of these LA dudes who live with their mom, complain about womxn of their own culture, complain that every job opportunity you find for them is never good enough yet they have no shame living off a womon, and blame everyone else for their own problems and lack of career success. My people even have a horrible joke about these dudes to warn our grrls to steer clear. This is a translation, so it’s not the same in English: “clean suits, empty pockets” is the warning, meaning they have nice clothes but they’re broke, useless, always get evicted from their homes because they don’t pay rent, and will never be loyal to nor support a family. These horrible stereotypes are not true, especially when you compare men from all over USA, but if you’re talking about LA specifically (not including OC black men, who have careers and white wives as the one lady said), these womxn are telling a true story. I’ve always been willing to date around the rainbow, and I always advised them to do the same, but they were hanging tough to they want their own. I always felt so bad that their own men talk so horribly about them, but they are so loyal to having a black husband and family. My black friends are educated and gorgeous. One married a Chinese guy, another a German guy, one specifically ONLY dates everything else…. The 2 who married their own were single moms within a few years. The only happy and older black couple that I know of here in LA are from the south (not LA). There are happy elder married womxn who advise to date outside if they want a better chance. I think today people are more interested in chocolate grrls compared to 20-30 years ago. You see LOTS of young black girls today with dark chocolate skin, big natural Afros, at nice restaurants that their white or Asian boyfriends are treating them to, and I’m happy for them. In my experience (I’ve never dated them), the most loyal black men and their happiest families have been Afro-Latino families?. Whenever I see full on happy black families together so happy, they’re speaking Spanish together, on the east coast and in Canada too. 🤷🏾‍♀️. I wish for all our peoples worldwide to heal up from this generational trauma of colonization and love each other better. ❤️🙏🏾

I just want to see my fellow chocolate sisters (including the darker ones from South Asian countries as well - all of us worldwide) be loved on in the skin we’re in just the way we are (in my country, chocolate grrls are ashamed of their skin and use bleaching cancerous creams). I want to see us provided for, loved on, honored, protected, and adored like many other womxn experience. I mean, the white and Asian guys seem to think so at all these nice restaurants by their choice of regal dates! Lol I live in metro Atlanta in the suburbs and grew up here all my life. Never had a problem finding black men. I don’t know how this feels. And no, the men here are not all gay and DL. I got 🔑🔑 for black women. Don't date with an agenda. First take a little time to vet the guy. Not JUDGE The guy's whole life just vet him Make sure he's not violent He's truthful and he handles his responsibilities be it bills or children honorably. Then vibe with him on the cheap. A quick lunch a quick bite to eat offer to pick up the tab on every other chill session. If he doesn't accept let him pay. If you don't got it like that tell him you want to chill but you don't got it like that be honest. Most men will be receptive. Talk to him about your likes and dislikes. Listen to him when he talks about his likes and dislikes. Do all of this before being physically intimate with the man. If everything is smooth after a few weeks then y'all can kick it about being intimate. Be honest and open within a few weeks you will know if the guy is sincere or BSing a con artist ain't going to put the time in. Then take it from there in the very least you will have made a cool acquaintance that might put you in the headspace to find and bond with someone that you can love and build something with without the pressure of accidentally getting pregnant or catching something crazy. Y'all just need to slow down and let things happen. That's my two cents I hope it helps somebody. A lot of women come off like they don't have time for this or that but what are you rushing to?
