La Boca & El Caminito: Buenos Aires Photography

Today I shot photography in La Boca, Buenos Aires' most colorful neighborhood.

Today I got out to go shooting photography in a part of Buenos Aires I love to take pictures. El Caminito, which is a little area within the La Boca neighborhood is the most colorful neighborhood in Buenos Aires. In many ways, it kind of has a New Orleans vibe to it. It's colorful houses with balconies, and lots of street art. El Caminito is also the most touristy place in Buenos Aires. During the day, it's lined with tourists and salsa dancers looking to make a bit of money off of photos or quick lessons.
At night though, La Boca isn't exactly safe. And, as sunset hits most people leave El Caminito. As a photographer, though, you kind of have to stick around and wait for the light.
So, I stayed at El Caminito until it was fully dark taking pictures. Last time I was in La Boca, I got a couple photos that sold, so I really wanted to go back and see if I could get a couple new shots. The thing about travel photography, is there's always a need for new versions of destinations, so even though I've been to and photographed El Caminito a couple times before, it does make sense to make another trip to La Boca to get some more shots.
I should also mention, that if you're planning on visiting El Caminito in the evening, it is fine to do so now. There used to not be a police presence here, but now, the police stay until 10pm to look after tourists, which is fantastic. So, big shout out to them for sticking around and watching over me as I shot my travel photos.

You didn´t go to the noth of the city. I like it a lot, it's like more modern and with more nature

I was in Santiago for 5 days and Buenos Aires for 4 days in 2013 for an educational trip. I never felt unsafe in either city, day or night. I think it's like visiting most places- if you look for trouble you'll be sure to find it. It would be a shame if we all let fear prevent us from traveling and experiencing what the world has to offer (within reason- there are a few places you won't find me!). Just be aware of your surroundings while enjoying other locations and cultures.

Some of your B-Roll looks like you are using a tilt-shift lens or is this is just an applied effect afterwards? example at 6:27. It's neat whatever it is and if you don't want to give up your trade secrets that is cool, but that is a neat look. Thank you. Cheers

Haha, this vlog is all about giving up my trade secrets! For sony mirrorless cameras there's a time lapse app. In the app I found a miniature mode. It gives the tilt-shift look. The only problem is it doesn't let me manipulate where the in focus part is, it's always in the middle of the shot. So, I love it, but wish I could change that bit!

Yeah, there's an app for Sony called "Time Lapse" and it does a bunch of things within the app including the tilt shift.

I don't actually. I generally actually like the distortion of buildings too. Although, there are times I wish I had one; especially for certain landscape images. It's just too much to carry one around all the time, as a full-time nomad, though.
