Damien Chazelle is killing it. Whiplash and now La La Land. Albeit a muscial it's still an amazing film.
@giuseppesarto36578 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the others, but I approve. La La Land was a breakthrough in a genre, and will be a classic that future generations will be quoting. And City of Stars which won best song is STILL stuck in my head- since the premiere!
@mckenna86637 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It was forgettable as a musical and over-hyped. The movie was fair. The singing and dancing (other than the first 7 minutes) was meeeh. The jazz was incredible - but that wasn't even included with what would make this a musical. Hipsters might applaud this, but that doesn't mean they have that good of taste. Lots of talent in the film - not a lot came through.
@giuseppesarto36577 жыл бұрын
Mc Kenna singing and dancing was Mehh, same as Les Mis because they cast Actors, not singers. That's the casualty in a Hollhwood musical, I'm afraid. I don't like it either... But, the STORY was EXTREMELY well executed, the director was great, and the composer of the music and lyricists were excellent too.

We are witnessing the birth of one dude that can be among the greatest! This man has only two films under his sleeves and what an outstanding picture they are! The beauty, the detail, the originality and creativity in Whiplash so spectacular one thought we'll never see nothing like that and then he comes with La La Land and completely smash it a whole lot more! I could watch that film even it was soundless just for the color and pace it has! Damien has such an incredible career ahead of himself, I can't wait to get to seeexperience it!

This was my pick for movie of the year, coming from a huge superhero / comic book / sci-fi / action lover. La La Land was complete movie magic that raptured me from the opening scene until the last picture on the theater screen. Impeccable, amazing and magical.

Being Italian, I'm so proud of the Venice Film Festival. Once again it proved that many of the best movies of the year pass by it. Portman winning Oscar for Black Swan (opening movie in Venice in 2010), Birdman winning best picture (Venice 2014), Spotlight best picture (Venice 2015), Vikander best supporting Actress (Venice 2015) and now La La Land, opening movie in Venice last september. Hopefully Best Picture, Director and Actress. *___*

@mckenna86637 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what movie people are seeing here. LaLa Land was...tremendously underwhelming. The singing and dancing were fair. The story was depressing, the writing was average at best, and overall it was not even worth spending the time having it told to you. The music? One song is decent (the first few minutes of the entire movie). But the musical score had pretty well nothing to do with the "book". Each tune could have been cut or replaced and the movie wouldn't have necessarily changed. (I WILL say though that the jazz was incredible - but none of the jazz made it a musical.) I read one critic saying this was an homage to the old MGM musicals (the sort Vincent Minnelli would have made) by people who may never have actually seen one. I totally agree. The audience I saw it with were broken up into 2 groups; mega fans of the 2 stars or not. And neither group left the theater smiling with satisfaction. WAY over hyped. Maybe, after an incredibly exhausting year like 2016, our standards have reached such a low level that this is now considered (by some) to be a masterpiece. Honestly...go rent an old musical instead. You'll be much more satisfied by the end.
