I can’t say enough about BOA, I have it on my Altras and while expensive the ease of use and being able to dial in the fit as the race goes along is huge. Makes a sock change or foot problem solving easy. Lockdown on the ankle is awesome using this system.

Love the BOA system. Saucony had a single version on their Switchback 2 trail shoe (don't think they are making a 3rd version) and it was really nice to have. So easy to tighten up the shoe or loosen them up. Would love to see more companies using the BOA system, Speedland being the top of the BOA system.

Did you ever get to test the Jackal II against the Akasha II? The updated Jackal with BOA interests me, but curious about 1) grip with the shorter lugs, especially on steep gravely downhills; 2) comfort over rocky terrain over long distances (20+ miles) as compared to the Akashas. Thank you!
@UltraTrailSteven Жыл бұрын
Yes! Akasha II review will be out next week. Both have excellent grip. Both are fairly comfortable, and have great protection from rocks.

Stellar review...thanks for this! As a former resident of Longmont, CO...it was great seeing some shots from a number of Open Spaces I used to run in :-) Have long been a LaSportiva guy and looking for my next one so this helps a lot. The integrated gaiter and BOA system are top notch plusses for me and thanks for mentioning the sizing up a 1/2 size. Odd question...do you typically refer to it as "B-O-A" system, versus "bow-ah" pronouncing it out? I spent a few years in outdoor specialty retail, including the REI there in Boulder and we'd always pronounced it as "bow-ah"...tomato, tomahtoe ;-) Subscribed to your channel...looking forward to keeping up with your reviews...thanks!!

Great review. I loved the jakal 1, only issue was the mount style heel tab. I’ll be interested to see if the boa upper on this one would eliminate that for me.

I usually wear 9.5 shoes and tried 9.5 and 10 in store for both this shoe and the Cyclon BOA shoe. I went with the 10 of the Jackal II because they felt good. Unfortunately after my first outing on these shoes, a short and steep hike they gave me awful blisters on both of my achilles. I’m gonna have to sell them used now.

I love the regular Jackal II, except for the fact that I can't get a good heal lockdown, after going up a full size in order to accommodate my forefoot. Any idea if the BOA version would be more secure in the heel, given the extra collar?

It feels nice and secure to me. I have not tried the regular Jackal II though.

Excellent honest review Steven! That weight might be a deal breaker for me but the rest of the shoe seems amazing. I'm surprised that you foot did not get hot with all that extra material. You mentioned hitting the BOA on a rock, but do you think the BOA would work ok in super rocky terrain? I know in mountain biking I've broken off the BOAs on rocks many times. Dang it's hard to argue with that sale price.
