Do they have other jobs or are they all full time paid? If so how much does a climber make on average?
@jacccs8 жыл бұрын
hyau23 well they don't earn a salary so to speak, they just get sponsorship deals from companies like La Sportiva and such. Not sure how much money they make, but for 99% of climbers it isn't about money, but just climbing.
@etak6148 жыл бұрын
I guarantee you that it IS about money for many climbers. They earn their money from winning competitions. Many of the local, national, and international comps have cash purses to be won. How much they make depends on how many times they podium at aforementioned comps. Climbers still have bills to pay, sponsorships might supply climbers with clothing and footwear, airfare to different countries for climbing trips, but they don't pay for their electricity and water bills....
@jacccs8 жыл бұрын
Emerson Takahashi go take a look at people like Alex Honnold then. Living in a van, just climbing all day, everything supplied by sponsorships. They do climbing because they love it, not because it pays a lot. When I said it wasn't about the money, I meant why they climbed *instead* of an office job - because they love it.
@etak6148 жыл бұрын
lol the climbing world is bigger than just Alex Honnold. But speaking of that, do you know how many television advertisements he's been in? He's a posterboy for TNF, Citi Bank,Goal Zero, previously Clif Bar just to name a few companies. You don't think he gets paid residual payments for all those ads(granted, he does donate much of that money towards his charities)? Climbers have been doing ads for decades, dating back to the "stonemasters"- John Long, Lynn Hill, Ron Kauk all did tv shows and ads to get paid. Either way, the majority of professional climbers are competition climbers, who all are gunning for those fat paychecks that come with winning.
@jacccs8 жыл бұрын
Emerson Takahashi having personally talked to Alex Megos and others at a recent competition, I know that a large majority of climbers started climbing and continued climbing because of their love for it, not the money. There are exceptions, obviously, but most climb because they love it. Yes Alex Honnold has done ads, but he still needs to get by, and if you were are asked 'oh hey, you want a sh*t ton of money for a 30 second ad?' you wouldn't turn it down, would you? The same can be said for sponsorships. And Honnold was just an example, a name, like Megos in this wall of text.

Bj Silver I am the type of guy who feels free to express his opinion, whether is a positive or negative critic. Some of he blocks in my opinion were too reachy, so Gustave's chances of sending them were jeopardised with regard to other competitors. ceratinly it was a challenging situation for rs with such an heterogeneous group of climbers. I would have expected route setters to overcome it and setting problems whose difficulty does not depend on climbers apex. I hope you are the type of guy able to admit a different opinion to yours and not a groupie ;)
@Porkobosso8 жыл бұрын
never said anything about you opinion. just made a point that it's weird when someone's favourite climber just can't cope it's the rout setters fault.
